- Bristolian artist Kirk Thompson aka Krust steps up for the latest instalment of our B-Sides series. The legendary jungle DJ and producer has long been a respected figure in the world of underground electronic music and is considered a pioneer in his field, with a back-catalogue of material dating back to the early nineties on the likes of Jumpin Jack Frost and Bryan Gee’s V Recordings, Full Cycle and Takin’ Loud, amongst others. In recent times Thompson unveiled his first album in fourteen years via Damian Lazarus’ Crosstown Rebels imprint, entitled ‘The Edge Of Everything’ and comprised of eleven contemporary experimental cuts which showcase his modern day sound.
Here we let Krust loose amongst his incredible and extensive record collection to share with you his top B-Side selections.

man, this guy is such a total legend...so happy you guys got him on!!! LEGEND!!
Bristol LEGEND! Saw him walking past Primark the other week.
Seeing the absolute Future Music God that is Krust just kind of geek out on music like a normal dude is a fantastic thing to see. And great tunes too, but no surprise there, of course.
I would love to experience the 90s once again.. when you're only 15, going out to the party to listen to some fresh cosmic music that was called drum n bass for the first time, and enjoy it to the fullest, because you have no idea whether you're going to hear all these tracks ever again. It was always about the rare music, music that wasn't on a radio ...
94-95 was absolutely magical. What a time to be alive.
I loved this..felt like I was hangin out with Krust listening to tunes..please, more of this with some of Jungles other legends..
I can't imagine the Jungle scene without this man. Big respect
Just had his coded language on my turntable a couple of days ago. What an album, aged a lot better than most of the stuff from 20years ago!
Future Unknown 😏
Future Unknown 😏
Yeah I bought it back then. I love it!
The way he pulled the Scarface tune out of the sleeve was vibes
true dat, a real DJ he is 😎
I used to get my jungle / d&b fix on a Saturday at Eastern Bloc, got the hookup early for the 12"s out the following Monday. If you know you know. Krust a legend to the scene. Great to see you still on it man. ✌️
Just wanna lives 2x note b line, is so simple, yet devastating on a proper rig 👊🏼
DJ Krust - Future Unknown, this one will be forever on mind, killer tune after all those years.
I like how's enjoying it :) Love his smile while explaining a record store _hehehe_
3rd Party/Kemet... Mark X’s label output during 93 and 94 was extremely special, some fantastic releases from those cats.
These jungle dives are the best, keep them coming!
Especially Screwface. KM3RD#1
@@daveandlouise123 Spot on! Love the Hardcore Mix too!
Sure I use to listen to Krust with Suv and Die on the Bristol pirate radio in the 90s playing this signature sound!
I miss the old records shops :(
Record Shop : "A place we used to go and buy records" ^^
Jungle & Darkside classics. Respect ! 🔥
In Krust we trust!
Excited for this. I've been spinning vinyl for 30 years now. Both my mom and dad were in the scene late 70s early 80s in Germany do i was raised on kraftwerk und African bambatta. 1st experience of the club I was 9, my dad brought me with him to a discotech on the beach on the Island of Crete, Greece "James brown is Dead" is the track i can vividly remember hearing him play. I'm 39 now and Elektro Global is my show on soundcloud where I try to play the best electro from around the world all spun using turntables. ... So respect for you guys at the show. How can i get on one of these episodes. I have been a part of alot of underground. Stuff
Pure love for the music! Big up from Estonia
Mighty Krust, still remember the first time I heard Jazz Note and Burning, absolute legend! Man Funded By Drugs...I mean Future Beyond Dance just had that incredible underground sound back in the day, much respect!!
This episode is pure fire!! Moar like this please!
That cartridge mounting on the headshell is driving me mental. Hahha.
haha me too, no doubt there's a good reason only Krust knows!!!
I was also confused, but it seems there is an explanation for this. The 44G needle has a spherical head and theoretically can be placed on either side. Perhaps it was a little dull on one side, so he turned it.
Full Cycle Records was always so so brilliantly dope....and that joke about the record shop´s was a hard hitter....
..those were the days..love the selection..big ups to krust..pure legend 🖤🖤🖤
Castle Morton was probably the best weekend of my life!
Man Krust was untouchable bitd!!
Big up the Krust. Big up the full cycle krew!
Legend. See him at the mass once in Brixton in a suit and chuffing on cigar. Dj Marky first time playing in England. Dj krust is knowledge.
Future Unknown changed my life when it first dropped on my first trip to London. Gilles dropped it at "That's How It Is" and was kind enough to send me a white label before I left back to the States. Big Up from Los Angeles OG Krust!!!
Oh fuck yes, the D.O.P.E. track is incredible, indeed. Listen to this track in full, nothing is better than dark, frightening jungle rave, J'Ai Peur!
Heavy picks Mr. Krust! One of the best Telecom episodes :-)
Get Krust to do a listening party, can play em like this, doesn't even have to mix. I'd tune in every week
Whoa! Thank you man. We should all have a TIL moment at least once a day.👍🏾✊🏾
That Scarface remix is amazing 🔥🔥🔥
Ooh that FBD project tune shreds 😍
"Journeys" is one of my favourites from FBD projects. One of the best jungle tunes ever made imo 👌🏾
This is awesome thanks Telekom EBTS!
Original Selectah. Nuff Respect 👊🏼
Track 1! 😎💪 Shout out to all Music Power Ilford crew. Sound of the weekends, 92. Good times......
Thank the Gods for this episode! so damn good!
Love this channel, its perfect
Oh Damn , Full Cycle in full effect
One of my all time favourites . Krust sir legend
Anyone else notice the angle of the needles ,makes total sense how that would work better 👍
Used to have my techs set up like that, supposedly better tracking for scratching, less chance of skipping...not sure if it actually helped though lol.
Amazing selections
Krust is such a don. That DOPE track is a percy. Love this channel keep the great jungle content coming please 🙏🏻
Fully enjoyed this.
I love this channel. ❤️
LEGEND.
Man, wicked selection! Big up the Bristol Massive! Used to absolutely cane the Roni Size and Krust Galaxy 101 tapes back in period.
Dj Krust Warhead, legendary tune 🏅
I am here to learn. Thank u
amazing picks
Beautiful memories
Just awesome.
Wicked episode man
Yeah! Boom - what a legend, been waiting for a junglist on the Beez!
Krust! So good to hear some of your selections. I’ve got some tapes from back in the day with Nicky Blackmarket dropping a few of these gems. Meant to be heard at an underground party with a sound system that rattles your teeth and the rafters!
Wow x
This was excellent! It had me looking through my own collection. I’m so happy to see Krust is a well spoken guy unlike some of his contemporaries who say “you get what I’m sayin” at the end of every sentence. I like this guy even more now. He’d make a wonderful neighbor! Also awesome he pulled mainly ‘Ardkore records to show off. He was having so much fun showing off his collection too. Shame “ROAR: The 90s Podcast” called it quits as I would love to see a 4 hour interview with Krust.
Dope on plastic tunnne
Dis man be Old School , Rockin a DJM600 and a stylus older than me!
Cool guy & great tunes 👍
Krust with the OLD-SCHOOL DJM600 mixer!
Even this guy here, who likes to hold onto things for ever, swapped his out 5 years ago! :D
It’s all you need….authentic to the core
@Justin Baker I know he doesn't need "practice!" 🙄
It wasn't like a criticism! I was admiring his old-school equipment!
Legends of the Dark Black crew checking in....
Great selection i have 2 of yhem my self
That scarface is 👌
NOW THIS IS PROPA .. COME SELECTA ! .. EXCELLENT STUFF .. BIG UP YA CHEST !
Dude!
Krust GOAT of jungle.
I need a full set of this
Killer track krust!!
Big up to Dj Krust
Yes sir
On the last track he stopped before the piano came in. The best part :(
Sounds amazing if you mix Renegade Snares in after
Drum n bass jungle legend.
Such a steep angle between his headshell and cartridge. Gonna have to try that!!!
I knew about this technique but never pushed it quite that far~
I couldn't wrap my head around the angle!! What's the benefit?
Usually you angle it like that if you’re scratching. However, applying it with the screws and bolts (yep) is a bit of a mare.
@@cormacjordan7173 from what I understand, it simulates a straight tonearm and can improve stability for scratching and heavy cueing
It actually shows that way in the Shure setup guide. It's meant to mimic a straight tonearm and reduce skips but personally I find a normal setup equally jump proof, even when scratching pretty hard.
Having this angle also adds additional wear to one side of the groove and the output levels aren't as balanced.
Peaceeee 👊🏻
Came here to moan about the cartridge being angled like that. Didn’t know it was “a thing”. Gonna stick with my Ortofon Club MKII :)
Big up krust. I still smash soul in motion
wicked, wicked
Bristol in the house
Krust = Legend 👌!
Krust was untouchable at one point. Good times
B-line on the Dope On Plastic...
His best track ever is True Stories. A journey, a story.
Completely agree.
Coded Language with Saul Williams in 2nd spot imo. Brilliant tunes!
True Stories definitely best track. Future Unknown also great, similar to True Stories.
The dope tune was much better than the a-side and also better than the original. It also generated two more tunes based off it.
Great choice.
MIGHTY !!!! Anyway Krust play " Flex & Relax " that's the A Side !!!! ;-)
I would always play the b side first.. Big up krust
🔥
them Edge tape packs back in the day were banging
Grooverider 1993 NYE, remastered from Edge 6-Tape Pack
www.mixcloud.com/eminusx/grooverider-1993-nye-ah-complete-rebuild-and-remaster/
one of best mixes ive ever heard...this mix was never out of my walkman at 6th form ;-)...this and JJ Frost Edge one from 1994
@@Nosh_Feratu Thanks for this, had no idea the Eclipse/Edge was well known outside of Cov.
Did you actually go to the events bitd?
Did you actually go to the events bitd?
@@maipai4282 I only went to a few as it was a long way away from where I lived, I went to 2 nights at the Edge in Cov and Atomic Jam and Pure X in Brum 2 or 3 times, mainly trying to see Doc Scott, JJFrost and Grooverider wherever I could. I was mostly around Manchester where there wasnt much proper Jungle in early-mid 90s, my main spot was The Orbit in Leeds as I was a massive Detroit Techno head aswell. Last night I went to in midlands was about 97 or 98.
Still got several of the original tape packs tho!
Sim, agora sim!
You should get Randall to do one of these
Still looking for an affordable copy of the FBD tune absolute quality start to finish
You guys got to do Junior Vasquez, David Morales and Danny Tenaglia
♥
3rd track inner city life , If my ears are not lieing
J.A.M needs a vinyl release. pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
Thanks....... B-SIDES........ Change 10 B-Sides
Really enjoyed this video, I always (still do in fact) like to play the most obscure tunes I can.
Anthems are all well and good, but I have heard them so many times I just can't play them anymore. Playing oldskool in 2021 is all about the rare, obscure, unknown stuff.
Yes you know the one , Letchlade free party ,all the ones with Dennis (easygroove) Circus warp days .
Some bad choons , some b sides back then we're if not better than the A side .Good ole days the eclipse ,never get em back ,glad to have been there all the way .
A rumour went round a few years back he died but he's still alive I think
@@dantheman81811 Nope can honestly say he had a operation few yrs ago , and he is around doing things
