    I asked my supervisor the question about how to structure the discussion, the answer was “the discussion is a discussion of the results”. This is so helpful.

    You will never understand what a huge difference you have actually made - thanks to these videos I know I have a solid understanding of what to write which no one would ever have explained to me otherwise, no matter how much I paid in tuition fees

    As a beginner in this field, and writing my first SCI research paper for PhD.... it quite difficult to write discussion in a concise way....

      Thanks. I didn't really make this with dissertations in mind, but they are basically long, boring versions of research papers and the basic content still applies.

    Thank you for this video! I find the way discussion sections are written in papers relatively easy to understand and copy, my only problem is that I have to produce ten pages of discussion, not just two. I find it incredibly hard to still make everything sound relevant and concise instead of just bringing up uninteresting points and going off on tangents. Reading so many "short-form" discussions makes it difficult to switch into a "long-form" writing mode.

    • @stevekirk4226
      @stevekirk4226  5 лет назад +1

      Good point. Yeah, I suppose if you're writing a thesis where the discussion section would be a lot longer, then reading the discussion sections of other people's theses would be good. A thesis is really a lot of "showing your work" or your thought process, right? So, some of those uninteresting or kind of obvious points might be important to include.

      The slides aren't much by themselves-just some lists basically. There are links to the research papers in the description if you want to find the papers that I discuss in the video.
