Lyrics:
Good morning America how are you?
Say, don't you know me? I'm your native son
I'm the train they call the City of New Orleans
And I'll be gone five hundred miles when the day is done
#WillieNelson #CityOfNewOrleans #OfficialAudio
I'm on the Amtrak Crescent right now drinking Irish coffee in the diner car at 7:30 AM watching America go by out the windows.
Once Willy sings a song, any other version becomes a cover.
Ehhhhh Against The Wind wasn’t one of the best.
I like Willy but I prefer Arlo for this song
I know this sounds bitterly sardonic. But exactly how did our culture become so indifferent to the sanctity and equality of human life?
As David Klinghoffer noted, Roe v. Wade had a lot to do with it, of course. But subsequent to that, three major cultural tipping points fueled popular acceptance of death-culture paradigms. Wesley Smith cited the killing career of Jack Kevorkian, the tragedy of Terri Schiavo, and the Planned Parenthood fetal organ harvesting videos as turning points.
Economies should be built to keep people going. People are not here to keep the economy going. People drive the economy. Not the other way around.
Economies should be built by people for the people - In memory of JFK. ❤
“The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath” (Mark 2:27). These words of the Savior remind us that the Sabbath day was meant to be a blessing rather than a burden to those who observe it. ❤
Economies work better when they honor the 'relationship of mutualism'. ❤
A big part of the 'retail apocalypse' is called planned obsolescence. Some products inevitably become obsolete after a short time. Planned obsolescence examples in day-to-day life include disposable cameras, cutlery, shopping bags, water bottles, take-out containers & CELL PHONES.
@@gabemartinez2558 I’m with you. Arlo owns this one.

Bless Steve Goodman who wrote the song
Oh ya it was great 40 years off railroading for me😊
My mother loved the description in these lyrics, especially "Mothers with their babes asleep, rocking to the gentle beat, and the rhythm of the rails is all they feel".
Im not even an us american but when he said ,,good morning america, how are u?
I felt that
Thank you daddy for raising me listening to awesome music ❤️
What should , I say Thank you Wonderful World . I'm fine sir uncle Sam . How about you mr. Willie N . ❤❤❤
I love Willie Nelson, I love country music and I love America too. Although it's a while ago now, I've been there many times. Been to 30 different states. Love from Norway❤
Back when times were more simple... love this song
you have to FORCE your life to be simple. easy ignore all the idiots and go about your business. shut down all outside MEDIA influences. its not happening. it only seems that way. go lay face down in the dirt youll wake up in the DIRT.
Probably thanks due to this song, Amtrak never did cancel this train as they had planned and it's still running in 2020. Thank you Steve Goodman, Arlo Guthrie and Willie Nelson. Choo f***ing Choo!!
Heikki Rantalaiho Sorry to break it to ya. But I doubt Amtrak a government funded railroad cares about a song. They mainly care about the money of the route/train. But still this is a amazing cover of the song.
@@SouthernRailPhotography Maybe this song made it more popular, thus making it more profitable.
Country music is king ❤
Willie is an American Icon. Cheers from NOLA
This song is me sitting on my Dad’s lap shifting the three on the tree. With lucky strikes fogging up the cold Minnesota county roads. My Dad was good. He was tough. He was a man of his word. He is missed. I shed small tears and smile hearing this and thinking of my Dad singing out the side of his mouth this wonderful song. I miss those days.
I wanna write a song about your dad.
Very touching, Jacob.
I love your memories. Pure childhood.
Thanks for sharing that. God bless you and your dad
Thank you for letting us into a moment with your dad. #forever
This is great. Arlo Guthrie singing it is great too. What a song. My Dad used to play this on a record player. I loved this damn song.
The journey is always so much better than the destination.
Or as Robert Louis Stevenson
put it, " It is better to travel hopefully than to arrive. ".
As a truck driver i feel this song, so many cars with restless deiver, i see the sun rise, i see the sun set, living between the lines like a railroader but than with a steering wheel, even tough m not from the u.s i feel a strong connection with it.
Greets from holland 🇳🇱🇺🇲

They say inside of everyone is an American ready to come out! Maybe that's a little arrogant but very true for some. World please remember we are not our government.
First heard this on a local country station back in late 1991!
I can smell that train.
This song really touches the soul.
Willie really is the master.
I remember driving over the Mississippi River going into New Orleans listing to Willie.... what a feeling 👍🏿
What does it smell like? One particular thing... or a complex composition of different aromas?
@@melissachartres3219It smells like bathroom disinfectant. I’ve ridden along it before. Amtrak is better than flying to me, but the super liner cars don’t smell very great.

My friendLarry like this song forever
This song really paints a picture of what it was like to be on the rail roads. Great song!
I miss the Choo Choo train!!😂
Willy makes me proud to be American love you willy.
I am from Mamou, Louisiana. Grew up in Morgan City and went to New Orleans alot as a kid. I miss my mom alot as I remember visiting her . New Orleans has a certain Cajun Creole rhythm to it.
Very sad and depressing but beautiful song, for people that aren't to fond with railroads it's just a good song but if you love trains it's very sad because back in the 60's and 70's there were over 40+ class one railroads in America, now we're only down to 7 and still decreasing. Railroading is not just a job it's a passion, remember the next time you see a train track that that track is linked to hundreds of thousands of miles of history and that your looking at 170+ years of it. Thank you willie
I take the Starlight down the coast of California just as often as I can - which fortunately it very often - and am absolutely inlove with the American train mystique.
Tony Danis The City of New Orleans is actually my go-to train... it goes through my hometown. I ride up to Chicago or down to New Orleans a couple times a year.

I'm from Lithuania and I love my country but I love America even more. I've never been to U.S. but I feel that it would be my home for sure. I hope one day I will get a green card and my dream to live in this beautiful country will become a reality. God bless United States and all of you guys!
May your dreams come true, mate! God Bless you too!
Being an American is a state of mind. Come by soon!
Let me welcome you in advance! We would be happy to have you.
Take a train trip around the country, that’s the real way to see America!
@@expletivedeleted7853 id have to disagree. The US is meant to be seen by car most definitely. It's the country where the idea of a road trip began. So many "main streets" and small towns and places a train could never go. I say this as somebody who's been a long haul trucker for years. I've been up and down this beautiful country in every season.
Its Willie's kind of song lovit!!!
I play this song in memory of my dad. He loved his country and he loved trains even more.
The epitome of Americana. I love this song so much. I'm not American but will definitely visit when travel is again an option. God bless you all!!

I was a bus driver 5 years ago. been driving since 2000-2019. I'm happy to know that I played a part in moving society safely. I was in a snowstorm once with 52 passengers. We were crawling. 40 kph here, 60 kph there. Still tryna get everyone to their destinations as quickly as possible. I'm glad they understood and realized we were gonna arrive late lol. My bus passed icy accidents of big trucks gone off the road, but i still assured everyone we'd be okay. When I showed up late after my 8-hour shift, my boss have to audacity to ask why I was late lol.
Why is this song so amazing? I'm an old school rock n roll and punk fan. But This song is amzing. I love it and I have never even been to New Orleans.
I'm a classical music lover, but this is great! And I love Willie, too.
How can you not love Willie's music..? Awesome American music!!!
I'LL ADD TO THAT. OUTSTANDING.
This song is written by Steve Goodman not the Willie

I am an Aussie. I wasn’t fortunate enough to drive. I flew. But I had an amazing time in Louisiana while I was working. I also think an amazing country. Everyone seems to be friendly. I wish I saw much more of the country and there good people. I just played this song to my girlfriend from country Thailand. Hoping she would get a feel of western style country 😁

I'm not what you would call a country music fan but I love this version of the song. Damn good job Willie Nelson!
First time I ever heard this song was at my brother's wedding. My dad told the story of how he won my mom over with a dozen roses for over week. There, at our table sat, a dozen roses at the seat my mom should have sat, my brother carried down the isle cause she passed the winter before she was suppose to make it. It was by far and away, one of those Akashic moments that will burn through time, for generations.

I love this song! Only recently got into Willie Nelson.
When Willie does it we can all appreciate it a little more.
If you don't tear up listening to this beautiful piece of the Americana first imagined and performed by the late-Steve Goodman, you don't have a heart. A picture in time of a trip through the heartland via the rails when MADE-IN-AMERICA was still king. This is the ultimate Willie-ballad-by-proxy that still rings true nearly four decades later.

Hello Maggie how are you doing!!
Done route66 4years ago from Chicago to Los Angeles, an amazing trip and amazing scenery, loved America 🇺🇸
Willie Nelson owns this song the way Ray Charles owns Georgia and Louis Armstrong owns What A Wonderful World or Patsy Cline owns Willie’s song, Crazy. Many great artists can sing these songs however, certain artists own them even if they did not write them or record them first.
Steve Goodman wrote such an amazing song. The lyrics reach in and tug at the heart strings. I never get tired of hearing this song.
jimi hendrix owns All Along the Watchtower.
Sorry Lobo, but this is a Steve Goodman song and he will always own it, even after his death. Willie and Arlo Guthrie capitalize on Steve's songwriting abilities, but the original version is still by far the best! Steve wrote the best damned train song ever and you should check out the original before getting too teary eyed over Willie's version.
I always felt it was Guthrie who owned it
A gem of Americana folklore. Thank You Steve Goodman, I do believe Kris Kristophen was part of the production team and there's another sprinkle of magic to this. 20 years later in early '90's Willie Nelson takes it to another level, and the number one hit in US charts and music awards thanked Willie for that. Brilliant.
CHIPS MOMAN pulls off a remarkably ambitious feat: taking a classic American country-folk song, one of the best and most successful ever in its genre, and producing a new version that outshines the original.
Great song!
Don't forget Pancho and Lefty with Merle Haggard
Willie sang this Steve Goodman song better than any other singer.
