  • Saudi Crown Prince MBS Forced to Scale Back Plans For Desert Megacity "The Line"? | Firstpost America
The Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman could have to wait a little longer for his dream project's fruition. The Saudi Kingdom has reportedly scaled back plans for the desert mirror city called "The Line", which is the flagship city of the mega multi-billion dollar Neom project. "The Line" which is planned to stretch 170 km, is expected to reach just 2.5 km by 2030. The Saudi sovereign fund is yet to approve the budget 2024 for Neom's first phase which is set to cost $320 billion. According to reports, the financial realities of the huge investment have started to cause concerns at the highest levels of the Saudi government. Watch this video for details.

I know this will be hard for MBS to cancelled the line project. But it could be changed in something more realistic city, hypermodern and build industry (with ypur own saudi population). I have seen the UAE where cities like Dubai try to be the Las Vegas of the east. But it has great weakness because it counts on expats & immigration of cheap workers. The natives aren't really get the knowledge or drive to run its own economy/industry. Its more a hideout for the rich to spend & store there money there.
So hope Saudi-Arabia will follow another route to get better foundation. So it get the drive of China, mindset of Japan, vision of a golden age and a example for the Islamic world.

Yes, Saudi women can finally drive but are you celebrating that they were the last women in the entire world to stop being treated like children? The women of Saudi wanted to drive very badly and many went to jail to try and win that right. It brings great shame to the royal family that they treat their subjects so poorly. Here is what the UN has to say about how the Royal family treats its subjects and especially its women:
"After the public review of Saudi Arabia’s human rights record, the United Nations Human Rights Council’s Universal Periodic Review (UPR) Working Group report on Saudi Arabia, should serve as a blueprint for minimum measures the Saudi authorities must take to abide by their obligations under international human rights law, Amnesty International said.
The report included 354 recommendations from 135 UN member states, many of them calling on the country to take substantive measures to ensure reforms, including in relation to guaranteeing the rights freedom of expression, association, and peaceful assembly, abolishing the death penalty, protecting migrant workers’ rights and eliminating all forms of discrimination against women.
“That so many UN member states took this opportunity to confront Saudi Arabia about its litany of human rights abuses and press the country’s authorities for reform shows that without genuine human rights reform, no amount of money spent on image laundering and sportswashing campaigns can conceal the rapidly escalating repression in the country,” said Dana Ahmed, Amnesty International’s Middle East Researcher."

Saudi Arabia litterly made fun of Biden in a few comedy videos. Second, Saudi Arabia tried to bankrupt the US oil industry. It has also tried to Cosy up to China while benefiting from US protection. Yet, MBS got a bit arrogant and tried to criticize the US on many occasions. So, there is no live list there. Third, I thought this was an Indian owned channel.

I also find it hard to believe that with the calibre of people and expertise involved in the planning of this project, they somehow managed to overlook the obvious issues this project poses. Not to mention the undesirability of living there. I assumed they must have addressed all the issues, but now, after hearing about it for so long, I don't think they did. Money talks and it's likely that people just wanted to get paid. Just look at the World Islands and other projects in Dubai. Are there even enough 'Rich' people that would want to visit this place, more than once? They have squandered oil money for decades and have nothing to show for it, seems like they're getting desperate because they know it's running out.
