I always use a little cleaning vinegar to my dish water when I buy dishes and I wash my dishes in it to makes them sparkling clean and they smell good.
What Is Ironstone?
Ironstone china is a glaze-covered earthenware that was first patented by Charles James Mason in 1813 and other manufacturers followed suit. At one point, there were almost 200 makers of ironstone china and they made everything from plates and bowls to tureens, covered casseroles, pitchers, gravy boats and even chamber pots. Most pieces come from England, France and the United States. Although, ironstone's popularity has come in waves, this durable dishware has remained a favorite among antique collectors for decades.
If you are painting the wood sconces, you could get wood pieces to add from Hobby Lobby or Michael’s. Like a medallion, to cover those hearts.
Great idea. Thank you!
Hello, my name is Stephanie and I'm a thriftaholic.😊 Good finds today.
🙋🏼♀️
🙋🏼♀️
Confession, I'm also a thriftaholic and a decoraholic 😍
👋🏻
The amber glass was moon & stars compote. That was a good price for a collector.
I knew one of y’all would say that 😭. Hopefully someone picked them up.
I wouldn't worry about eating off of dishes that have been bleached. Many dishwasher detergents have bleach in them and rinsing should take care of residue.
I bleach tea and coffee cups with white interiors frequently. I just rewash with soap and water afterward and give them a sniff test. If I don't smell bleach I don't worry about it.
The restaurant I waitressed at many years ago used to bleach their coffee cups every once in awhile to get the coffee/ tea stains out.
You just cracked me up when you said it’s perfect to put a pot plant in lol
Lol I keep saying that and I don’t know why 😂😂😂😂😂 lawd help.
I thought the same thing 🤣🤣🤣
I cracked up too, Julie! It's potted plant, not pot plant - unless, of course, your are planting some of that "wacky tobaccky", LOL❣🤪🤣🌿
Jeez And I didn’t even catch it when editing lol
Bleach wont hurt the dishes just rinse well.
Thank you!
I bleach all dishes and things that are bleachable before I use them.
I loved those placemats and the little pitcher! So cute. Your Goodwill is like a boutique compared to mine. 😂
Check out gingerchickrehab, she fills in the hearts on wood items with a mix before she paints them. No more hearts.
I can't tell Tanya that you sent me cuz I am already a subscriber to her channel. Funny cuz I had just watched her before viewing your video and she was referring people to your channel! But that's not why I watched. I am a subscriber to your channel too. Enjoy watching both of you. Great video, as usual. Loved your haul and your oil lamp that you had to piece together is beautiful!
Thank you so much! I’m so glad you’re here!
Omg! I'm here screaming " get that rooster! !" Great finds!
Lol.
Bleach won't hurt dishes. Just rinse. Lots of people put a few drops in dish pans for washing dishes. Vinegar and baking soda might remove bad scents tho. If not, try closing dishes in a large garbage bag after sprinkling each with baking soda. I was given a book which smelled of something awful. I used the last technique after sprinkling soda thru the pages. It took 6 months but worked. The book and giver were precious or l wouldn't have bothered. Dryer sheets also can work sometimes. I am surprised dishes still smell after washing. Good luck!! As always - loved your ideas!!!
Thank you so much! They are good now.
My favorite find is the basket🤎
You can never have too many 🥰
Great haul, Julie 🤍
Thank you so much Sarah!
When i saw that metal rooster i was saying pick it up! I would so like to find one.
Me too!!!
I did to
I found one and couldn't believe it.!!! It's gorgeous and even I was surprised
When I saw that coffee pot that said "whistler", it immediately made me think about the movie "Fried Green Tomatoes" and the Whistle Stop Cafe". lol
Lol right. That’s too funny.
That's one of my favorite movies, its a classic🎆
Great haul! Ugh, I went to my local thrift shop and I am regretting not picking up this little picnic basket! It was only $4, but I was not looking for that and passed! Now I am hoping it is there next week when I can go again!! Hahaha I just talked to my son in law and he’s going to go get it for me tomorrow! 😍😍😍
Ahh don’t you hate it when you leave something and can’t stop thinking about it lol
Absolutely appreciate the chance to thrift with you. Once again you hit it out of the ball park! Your treasures and plans are wonderful. Thank you for the shopping tips that you mentioned. I cannot wait for this weather to break, this girl NEEDS some thrift store magic 😂 . Take care Julie & thxs for the inspiration.
Thank you so much! You’re too sweet!
Oh my goodness, you sound like a type A just like me :-) It made me smile when you put the 2 pitchers together that matched so someone would see they are a set. I have done that so many times!
Thank you so much!
"putting a pot plant in" hahahahahahaha whaaaat?!?!?! Made me laugh out loud!!!
Yes I know lol. Lawd 😂 I’m trying to pay attention these days 🤣🤣
Love the little pink box with flowers in the beginning. Trike is so sweet and that funky magazine holder is so fun! Had to add your oil lamp looks great! Sorry about the funky smell with your dishes! Can’t wait to see the cabinets all painted!
Thank you so much! I cleaned them with vinegar and ran back though dishwasher and I don’t smell the funkiness anymore lol. They must have been in someone’s storage for awhile.
That magazine rack looks like mid-century. Note about ironed stone very heavy and always dishwasher safe and microsafe.
Good haul. You can wash your dishes in bleach , water and dish soap. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you!
And my mother used a cap of bleach in her dishes once a month
Thank you!
I'm so glad you are not a reseller. Don't know why it's kind of disappointing. (Reselling)
Ironstone is sometimes marked stoneware. It’s heavier and usuAlly white or beige
That was a nice hurricane glass piece for oil lamps and the price 1.99
Big one 1.99 small one 2.99/ made in china/ field of stars incorrect. Glad u left them. Lol!
Sorry I like your channel but way to many commercials!!!!!!
Those two amber bowls were L E Smith Moon and Stars. Those were dirt cheap Sweetie.
😭😭😭😭 I knew y’all would prob say that. I’m learning.
I use all of my punch cups for Jell-O, so the kiddos have a place to hold onto and enjoy a summer treat
I think that's very nice of you putting things back where they belong. When I was a little girl, my mother used to take me shopping. Every time we took clothing off the hangers we put them back on before we left. TFS Enjoyed your video, yes ma'am more Please. God Bless!
Thank you so much! And yes it’s just the right thing to do!
Is it that the smaller box was priced bigger than the larger box?
Hi Julie I enjoy you so much and I’m from elberton Georgia
I would have picked up the brass candlesticks in a heartbeat! They were Baldwin brass and are very expensive. I love you videos.
Thank you! Yes they were nice 😁
I found some great things at Goodwill myself this week. I found some brass candle sticks. I just love brass also got some silver trays. I love your haul. You always have great videos.
Thank you so much!
Try soaking the dishes in baking soda and white vinegar to remove the smell.
Julie, when you find a wood piece that you like - even though it has a "heart" cut out - (I agree, I don't do bears, bows, or hearts)) BUT what you can do, or your "hubby", or the "son-in-law" that refinishes furniture, is TAKE A DRILLING TOOL OR A FILE AND MAKE THE HEART A CIRCLE !...What can be done and what I've done before - just another idea, is to go to a craft store (like "Holly Hobby" or Michaels' ) - and buy a wooden piece in the unfinished section - where you'd buy a box to refinish, birdhouse, plaque...and get a small wooden medallion - they usually have vintage designed pieces, or flower wooden piece large enough to cover the "hole or heart" and simply glue it over the cut out circle or heart...and then paint it all after the wood glue is dry - ALSO, you can still stain the piece added...(the wooden applied piece will not be "flush" to the surface, it will "protrude by only the thickness of the design piece added, but this will only add to the design and finished piece...its better than missing a good buy and the wooden pieces are not expensive at all ! Good thrifting !
Oh what a wonderful idea. Thank you so much! Definitely going to consider that!
Yes!! Hobby Lobby has fantastic selections of unfinished wood crafting pieces.
You can use bleach to wash the dishes. I do that to just give mine a cleaner look. All of my dishes are white. I just pour me about half a cup , Dawn dishwashing detergent an very hot water. But that’s just me
Oh nice. Thank you!
I need a oil lamp. I have not found one. That blue one was pretty
Always enjoy your videos! Wonderful
Not from Georgia. But live there for 10 years😀
I've never heard about the heart cut out. Is it too playful?
I enjoyed this video!! thanks for all the tips you gave. I love thrifting too so I will be checking out Lazy DIY channel also. THANKS FOR THE RECOMMENDATION!!!
Thank you so much. You will love it.
USA painted on the basket w tags saying made in China
It said boyd and y a dollar more.they should have been sold as a set
Those were boyd bear pieces. They were marked cheap
usa decor made in china. it had a boyd bear tag which is from PA. Never seen them in Boyd Bear drums like that. I would have gotten them as I collect Boyd bear and patriotic stuff. I graduated in the bicentennial. I went to the Goodwill just 2 blocks away. Found some bowls that will coordinate with my others. $2.49 for 4 brown bowls. Also found a stained glass kleenex cover for $1.49. a big tote bag for $2.49 and a few little items for kitchen. Still looking for mirror. They only had 2 and they were small. Love watching your videos. Not much on tall shelves at ours.
Thank you Linda! You got some great deals!
Those vintage glass amber bowls were an awesome price!!! Aghhhhhh! I would’ve snatched those up in a heartbeat. 💔
Moon and stars!
Why don’t you like hearts?
I just don’t t like them on the shelves. Not my style.
Check out Ginger Chick Rehab. She has a quick solution to filling in holes in wood including those heart cutouts you keep running across in otherwise perfectly good wooden pieces. I think this would be perfect for you, it is really easy and looks professional when done. I just can’t remember the name of the product. Besides it’s better if you see it being used. She has a lot of videos or if you send her a message I’m sure she’d be happy to help. Hope this helps.
Thank you yes I’ll ck on that. I love Yvonne!
Julie, maybe lemon juice may help take smell out of the dishes? Maybe try it on one piece if you have extra or if one has a chip? Anyway great thrifting! God Bless you and yours.
Oh that’s a fabulous idea! Y’all are awesome.
So I love your videos, you passed some things that I would of loved , I love the craft board with all the sewing supplies and the heart placemats I so would of got those . Also that wood box that you were looking at for you lavender did have a price on it for $1.99, you must of passed by it but your hand was next to it. Those fourth of july baskets, first they weren't made in the USA, second the large one was $1.99 and the small one was $2.99 also the stripes were going a different direction away from the stars. So I wonder if efferdent denture cleaner would clean those Falz Craft cups for you. Oh I did want to tell you , I have used napkin rings for around some curtains or to hang them , they look cool and they are strong. Can't wait to watch you again 🙂🙂. Happy Velentines day
Thank you so much! And I sure must have missed that price lol
Take your cup with you when you get your paint! You might just buy a sample and paint a side of the cabinet to see if you like it.
Yes, I plan to do just that. Thank you!
@@ThrilledThrifter Sherwin Williams can match any color.
Ithoght the box was a butterfly house for outside
Yes, me too
I always soak my white heritage pfaltzgraff in bleach and hot water. For scratches or silverware marks I use bar keepers friend powder. Just make sure to wash and rinse well.
Awesome. Thank you!
those magazine/newspaper holders are great next to the toilet for toilet paper rolls!!!
I caught on right away.
I so admire that you left those wooden things behind because they weren’t quite right. So many times I get over excited and take home things that if I stopped to think won’t work in my house.
Haha I noticed before you even said anything the large one was 1.99 and the small one was 2.99
Right. Like what in the world lol
I'm from Mt Olive MS but live in Gilbert AZ now. You accent makes me feel right at home.
Awe, thank you! I definitely have a accent.
Sit your dishes in the sun for a couple of days will take the smell also works for plastic tubs you store. Leftovers in
Awesome tip. Thank you!
Such a smart idea to get a lantern for the pieces you need, you’re right so much cheaper. Great finds!
Yes, thank you!
I move stuff with like items as well. It drives me crazy when the items are not together. OCD
Me too!
How can the small drum (boxes) be more expensive than the larger one 🙄. Anyway l love shopping with you. So sorry you left the drums and the tree skirt. Love your haul.🥰🥰
Kinda what I was thinking lol.
Do you ever worry about getting bed bugs from those blankets? Yuck!
Nope. I’ve never ever had an issue. But everything I get after I film goes directly into the washing machine or sink to be washed and run through dishwasher or hand washed and sanitized if decor. I even wash and sanitize my baskets.
A suggestion for the wood candle sconces with the heart cut out - fill the cut out with wood filler, sand and paint. I can’t do the heart cut outs either. Or geese!😉
Larger USA box cost less
Hi Julie enjoyed going thrifting with you again always see good items also like to see the way they are styled in your home thanks for sharing . Prayers Blessings to you Larry and both of your families Mildred!
Have a wonderful weekend"
Thank you so much Mildred!
Wood filler takes care of the heart! My mom lives in Georgia does that count? I love that sage green too, so calming and pretty.
Yes, it counts. Hi to your mom :).
Ironstone is not always marked. The weight of the piece is the tell tell sign.
Thank you!
I would suggest to wash the dishes with dawn and hydrogen peroxide! It is a great disinfectant!
Thank you!
Made in china on those drums
I bleach all my dishes in the winter to cut down on the colds and flu ... I just rinse them real good
Thank you!
Wash the cups that have an odor with bleach and rinse well, wash with lemon and place in sun, should remove any odors. You found some really nice things! 🤗🌸
Thank you!
Thank you!
I never heard of dishes smelling then you put them in dishwasher😬🤭
Yes, I’m not sure why but after vinegar and another run through the dishwasher they are fine.
Hi Julie, what a great haul! There was a lot of stuff at your Goodwill that I would have gotten: a red & gold bowl (urn?) that was on an upper shelf at the 3:17 mark, the cobalt mugs, the basket you got that you said you might make Elizabeth's hamper, that bright red flower painting, the smallest of the three mirrors, that green sham, and that drawer piece you purchased. I'm glad I get to virtual shop with you because if I went shopping in real life my hubby would kill me lol. Stay safe!
Haha. Yes so many good things this day.
The bigger one was cheaper
That metal rooster!! 😍😍 I would love to find one like that!
Lol , the small usa box is more money, than the large box only at goodwill
Yes, only goodwill!
Hi Julie,
My name is Lisa and I’m from Georgia.
Hi Lisa!
Drums are red, yellow and blue. Not red white and blue.
Looked red, cream and blue to me.
THAT METAL MAGAZINE HOLDER WAS OLD AND WORTH SOME PRETTY GOOD MONEY.
It was beautiful!
Julie take your sage green cup to the paint store they can match your color
Yes, I did just that lol. And a sage green cushion lol.
The wooden box You are looking at is a butterfly house and You hang it outside. Then when the butterflies fly south , You can clean it out from the top. The little drum set is from "Boyds Bears" . They came with a B oyds Bear , red, white, blue. TFS! Judyxx
The bigger one was 1.99 and the smaller one is 2.99
Yes!
So glad that you got the parts for your OIL LAMP !!!! And it fits perfect .....how lucky was that ??? 👍👍👍
I can’t believe you have your Grandmother’s plant and kept it alive for 20 years! Your must have green thumbs for sure! That is amazing!
I wonder why those dishes you got have a smell ? I could see plastic absorbing an odor like mildew.. but stoneware. hummmm!
I laughed when you said you put the ONE pitcher over by the other so someone may buy them together....because I hear woman talk about moving things AWAY from places and hiding them on the bottom shelves or on the top shelf out of sight!!! LOL !!! Julie is putting them all back .....🤣👍 Too funny !
Another fun shopping trip!
Have a blessed weekend ! Hugs from CHILLY SNOWY NEW YORK ! 🥶🥶🥶
Thank you Jayne! I’m the crazy one feeling sorry for the dishes and wanting them to go to great home. 😂
@@ThrilledThrifter I would be the same way !!! I told the ladies that were doing that , that it was not nice to HIDE ITEMS and come back later to get them. EITHER GET THEM or come back another day to see if they are still there...but how rude to HIDE THEM. They simple said everyone does it! I don’t watch them anymore. 🤨
The wooden box with the narrow slit holes was a butterfly house. You pick it up and mentioned putting lavender in it.
study a piece of iron stone and also it will be heavier than it looks
How do I study ironstone?
May not be able to get back up from bottom shelf. LOL
Right! That’s me sometimes!
I like Tanyas channel, that big monthly sale she goes to is fabulous & she's so nice. By the brass candlesticks there was a floral crock, very cool. "Always look up" good advice & video-thank you🎆 That big wicker basket is a good find! The base to the oil lamp would make a cute little vase.🎆
I prefer my desktop computer too.
Try really strong generic mouthwash whatever your favorite scent is mint, and add to soap when washing, or could soak for a bit. I saw a sponge pottery dish, that I would have looked at.
It's good to get out to thrift. You know sometimes like retail therapy, thrifting therapy is good for us!
Thank you! And yes. Thrifting calms me believe it or not. Takes my mind elsewhere besides my worries :)
The boxes you showed, the big one was cheaper than the little one. I have been watching lazy diy, for a while. I love when she goes to those huge places with all kinds of stuff. Some are quit pricey. 🦋💕🦋
Yes, me too!
No. Texas
Julie, I COMPLETELY agree with you about the "heart" in the wood pieces. But you should I have started using Plastic Wood to "correct" that issue. It works wonders. It is basically HARDCORE woodfiller or spackle but much stronger. I love it. Great for fixing those huge holes and gaps.
Oh goodness ! Where do you get this? I pass up so much that I could up cycle.
@@ThrilledThrifter oh honey, any home improvement store and Walmart carries it. I usually get it at Walmart only because I buy smaller quantities. I bought 2 child rocking chairs before Christmas for my kids while thrifting and one of them and a partially broken leg so I used that plastic wood to repair that leg. Once it dried I was able to sand and paint and now they play in them and you would never know it was broken.
Whats wrong with hearts?
@@carolfeltner7744 nothing if that’s your style. 😁 Go for it. Less work for you to do too since most of it is like that too. Lol
The wooden "box piece with the side opening" is a "candle box and the opening it for the large boxed matches...neat
I figured it was a notch box or something. It was really unique!
You should have gotten that lazy Susan for 99 cents to put your tiered trays on while decorating them. It makes it so much easier!
I love Afhans and woolen blankets.
Nice and warm and good for decoration.
Loved those wooden napkinrings.
Look at that oillamp.
Jeayyy your lamp is complete now!
Love your thrifting and selections from Tyrone, Georgia! Yes, Tyrone, GA.
I think we're kindred spirits....love of thrifting, homeschooling, and YL oiling. :)
