I definitely understand that they’re raising prices like many other stores! This video is to make you aware to look for the LOWEST priced item!! Happy shopping everyone!!!😊
Katie, I recommend you come back in your next video and clarify what you mean by scam. Scamming someone denotes dishonesty, lies, putting something over on someone to take advantage. Using the word scam is serious. I understand that those items with the lower price are the older items but I am not sure. Did you ask someone there to find out why there is a difference in price? Did you call the head office? You should find out the reason first before defaming a brand name like Hobby Lobby. It is one thing to tell people to check the prices but to imply that something else sneaky is going on, is another. Please get back to us once you have more info. Thank you!!
I actually work at hobby lobby. Currently we have a ton of items that the prices are dropping. I know, as I’ve spent DAYS marking down products. All identical products are supposed to be marked the same. Each week we get a list of price changes that we are supposed to take care of. However sometimes we are so busy we just aren’t able to get to them all. Sometimes items are returned after price changes have been done & it isn’t noticed that the returned item is a different price when it’s put back on the shelf. Any cashier who sees identical items, with the same item number, at different prices should be ringing them up at the lower price. And as far as the sales signs go, people need to read the signs. It clearly explains which items, which category, is on sale & which is not. Hobby Lobby is not trying to scam anyone. It’s a sore run by people. And every single item gets keyed in, not scanned. We even offer price adjustments if an item you purchase goes on sale within 10 days of your purchase.
I came here to echo from seeing all the repricing in retail I assume they got new stock in and just put it out without noticing the prices were tagged differently. Or if they did, the worker didn't have time to fix it.
Wait how does that 10 day thing work? Things go on sale one week & not the next regularly. So someone could buy (not on sale) then go back the next week for the adjusted sale price (refund)?
I miss the coupon!! But it seemed like it disappeared during covid, when all the retailers were getting hurt, and I don't know if stores have fully rebounded, because a lot more people seem to still shop online from Amazon.
taking away the coupon keeps people coming back to the store looking for the item they want to be on sale. I also hate that they took away the coupons. There is a wall of sewing items that they never put on sale any more. So what is going on with HOBBY LOBBY ??
I thought I was the only one that found different prices for the same item. Sometimes they'll be in different areas of the store. Thanks for this video
I asked about this and was told if price goes up they don’t “retag” older item on shelf. Apparently not trying to rip people off, simply leaving the older items without price increase. Since we’re all aware now, pick up the cheaper one right.
Yep. They just shelf the new with the old and don't worry about the prices. So actually, if you look for that lower price, you definitely won't be getting ripped off!
It is insane! I only shop there if I absolutely need something or wait til 90% off now. I experienced dbl pricing over the winter there but not til I got home. Not at hobby lobby but I have really noticed major discrepancies at 4 dif grocery stores I have to frequent to get what I need being diabetic and a lot of items can be as much as $2 + more per item at these places. I feel that it is price gouging at this point, especially if you look at their "record profits"... shame on them.
This is a greedy company. Yes, there is inflation but greed will kill a corporation faster than anything else. Since this is a private company, the public isn’t privy to the books but Hobby Lobby is not near as busy as it was just six months ago. They'll price themselves right out of business.
Im guessing there's the "price" then there's the various markdown sales? And some don't get put back to the original price? ...or perhaps when they purchase from their vendors, sometimes the same item has different prices for various reasons?
I am in shock that I had to pay $7 for a dozen eggs the other day. My mom would be rolling over in her grave. That’s way more than 100%. The last 3 years of food prices are killing me…..hobby lobby is optional, food is not.
Last year we had a Hobby Lobby open in my suburb. I was so excited! My first visit, I went up and down every aisle, amazed at the variety of items they carried. I really didn’t need anything, but I picked up a bunch of stuff that I thought was on sale or clearance. When I got home, I compared the receipt to the items I bought and found some items that I thought were on sale but was charged the full price. A few of those were way overpriced and I would never had bought them at full price. So back to the store I went. It was very easy to return the items, they just ask if there’s anything wrong with the item. I told the cashier I thought the signs said they were on sale and he told me I was mistaken, only some were on sale. While I was there, another customer was complaining to the cashier that the items she was buying were on sale and they were ringing up full price. Her cashier told her she was mistaken. That customer actually went and retrieved the sale sign and showed the cashier and the cashier told her her chosen items were NEXT TO the sale items, but they were NOT on sale. She had the cashier remove the full priced items and only purchased the ones that were ringing up on sale, all the while complaining that these items were all together on the same shelf and they were trying to fool customers into buying the full priced items. That’s exactly how I felt as well. I haven’t been back since and as pissed as that other customer was when she left, I doubt she ever set foot back in that store either. I know a lot of people don’t pay attention to how things are ringing up and they lose their receipts in the car on the way home, and have no idea they paid $29 for one item and $49 for the exact same item, so Hobby Lobby gets away with that. Certainly not good customer service.
Yea they do that!! They have stands where they mix table top decor with wall decor and such and they have a huge sign saying 50%off in the very bottom they have tiny letters explaining which one is on sale but many people think the entire stand is on sale so yes to me that’s a scam! Many people don’t pay attention and pay full price for something they thought was in sale.
Sometimes their not the same price is according to when the merchandise comes in. Probably the high price is probably the new ones where they go up on the price and the lower was probably the older one that has been there a while. It happened to me in a clothing store, I asked for the manager a that's what he explained to me. It's not just Hobby Lobby beware everywhere you shop. Always check your recept. If it's not right take it back to the store and they will fix it, it doesn't take but a few minutes.
There's a Hobby Lobby near my home, it's been there for years. I will NEVER go in the place. They are owned by a right wing evangelical so I won't purchase anything from them, even if free, no thanks. The most ungodly people are evangelicals.
Any time I’ve seen different prices they were slightly different sizes if the same thing. But I’ll definitely pay closer attention to be sure in the future.
Hobby Lobby have very dishonest sales practices. Yet they claim to be a Christian company. Many times I go to check out and am told ( oh no this isn't on sale) even when the shelf signage says it is. I have many times said never mind I don't want it
Hobby Lobby is NOT scamming anyone. In my experience, they are honorable and fair. However, like all retailers, over the past couple years they have experienced cost of goods inflation and it's been necessary to increase prices. Consequently, the same item might have two prices if there is old stock and new stock on the shelf. Also, Hobby Lobby does not price the goods at the store level. The supplier to Hobby Lobby puts the price label on the goods directly. Bottom line: NO scam. But buy the lower priced items if you can! 🙂
I previously worked as an Assistant Buyer for a couple of major retailers. This situation is a major red flag that the store managers, district managers, corporate retail buyers, and sales analysts aren't properly communicating with each other. Either they should have reticketed the lower priced items to match the higher priced items...or they should have scheduled the higher priced merchandise to arrive in-store after the lower priced items sold out. The only time it is appropriate for the exact same items to be at 2 different prices at the same time is when something is damaged, yet still sellable, or when the item is perishable and near expiration date...so the older items still on the selling floor would be marked down 50% -75% off regular price.
I don't think it's communication or laziness. It's calculated and purposely meant to pull the wool over the customer's eyes. They are swindlers! They are wolves in sheep's clothing.
I have seen this too. I always check and if I want two I ask them go with the lower price for both and they will. I don't think it's a scam, I think the one in front came in earlier at a less expensive price point, and the one in back came in later at a higher price point. Instead of marking the one in front up, they leave it at the cheaper price. The higher price point will be what it will be after the cheaper ones are out of stock.
Good point! I also feel like it could be since they hand mark everything, it is a good way to mark things down as they’ve sat on the shelf a while. By the time the front items have sold at a higher price, it’s time to get the back items out to make room for new items. The lower price helps them to do that without looking at each individual item in the store and marking random things down daily. I don’t work at Hobby Lobby or anything but this is my guess! Seems like less of a scam and more of a business strategy to me
Seems like every store I shop at nowadays is so understaffed. Things like this are bound to happen. We need to be diligent, but to call this a scam is harsh imo.
This is exactly what an employee told me. She said they don’t have the time or staff to check the price of every product in the store. She said often they will bring out old stock trying to get rid of it and if they don’t the new stock comes out at a different price. So yes folks look at each price.
So true! I’ve seen stores like Walmart & Target do this as well, except they wait until the item is sold out, only to bring back a “new/improved” version at a higher price.
I agree with you. I do not believe Hobby Lobby is scamming me whatsoever. It is owned by a very Christian family (that’s why they don’t open on Sunday). And that’s why Christian music plays in their store instead of rock. I’ve seen this same thing at places like Ross’s. The first comes in at one price and the next one comes in two weeks at a different price. Ross’s prices depend on how long it has been in the store. Saying this is a scam is a little detrimental. Yes, I will continue to give my business to a business who puts their belief in God a priority over profit.
Yes, I bought the same flowers at Hobby Lobby and the price was different by $2 a stem. They told me it was older product that’s cheaper and since then the new lot had a price increase. I think the older products should just go on clearance as older product.
Thanks for making it aware to the people who shop there. In this economy we need to save money where ever we can and still have nice things . Keep up the great work Katie
I noticed as you were showing the mismatched prices on items that the item numbers were the same. Working previously in retail I know different shipments of identical items would come in with new item numbers and a price change. But HL's items have the same item numbers on them, so prices should definately be the same. I will sure be checking next time I'm shopping there. Thanks for doing the video!
I always thought they were overpriced anyway and the quality is not there on some of their home decor. i’m glad the 2 stores I know of are 30 min. away in opposite directions so that I have to have a very good reason for shopping there. However, I can’t think of a good reason to shop there or anywhere with $20+ price differentials.
A former Hobby Lobby employee explained, "Because there's no bar codes, the only way to raise the prices on products is for the new ones to be priced higher-hence the price discrepancies on new stock."
@@cicileigh393it’s not fraud. Fraud is if they marked it at one price and sold it for more. They are not. They have the prices clearly marked on the tag. You have the choice to purchase it or not for that price.
It happens with the prices on floral stems also. I always dig through them to find the one with the lowest price and then they will give you the lowest price. But geez that $20 difference is insane. And no way is that basket worth $50 anyway
what everyone needs to understand is that the prices on items are changing...the ones that are priced lower are the older items that have not sold to date...the higher price ones are the newer ones that have been sent to stock....once the lower ones sell the higher price will be the price from now on until the next increase....the is not something new as every retail store goes through this
Absolutely correct. I’m 45 minutes from the nearest Hobby Lobby and I am delighted at the prices compared to other stores. I don’t know if everyone else is like me…..but if I want it, I’m darn sure going to get it. Because crafting is my therapy…so whatever the price, it’s much less than a psychiatrist.
Came here to say the same thing. Stores with shelf labels are able to price change the items, it would be nearly impossible to do it in hobby lobby, HomeGoods places like that because each item is tagged. Just like gas prices change almost daily.
I worked retail for years. If things are marked down you go in and change the tags. You can do it it's not impossible or further more add a sign for the price drops.I don't know how you came up with your information but I beg to differ.Im sorry that a customer is willing to buy into this😕
We owned a retail home lighting business and yes that happens. Especially at the rate manufacturers raised their prices. It’s not the stores fault firm price increase….it’s manufacturing. Most of the stuff is made in China and China is paying their employees more so prices go up prices, go up because of transportation cost. So many factors in it. It has nothing to do with a president. These are commodities and it’s the world we live in.
Just at Hobby Lobby this morning and found two items I was interested in that were marked two different prices and they were in two different areas of the store. I brought it to someones attention but she didn't even seem surprised. Shame on you Hobby Lobby.
Same thing happened to me a couple years ago. It sure seems scammy to me. I feel like I'm being cheated, so I avoid going there anymore. And because the owners are Christian, it seems even sadder that they can't be honest in their pricing.
As a Christian, I can tell you that not everyone who claims to be a follower of Jesus actually is. I’m not saying the owners aren’t Christian, but just throwing that out there. I will say that I was disappointed in my local HL in their Easter decor. Easter is the day we celebrate Jesus (the perfect lamb) taking on all our sins and shame and then defeating Satan and rising from the dead. I have nothing against bunnies and put a few around the house at Easter time, but I was disappointed to see that my HL looked like every other store in my area. They had a couple of Christian items (that weren’t appealing to me), but mostly Easter was about the bunny. 😮
@@debriddle2 And now I'm wondering if this is why they don't upgrade their point-of-sale systems. It's 2024 and the fact that cashiers have to enter a manual code to ring up the products is now making sense, so I don't subscribe to the notion that they're just raising prices like everyone else. As a Christian, I never had a problem with HL's business practices, but this is exactly the kind of thing that lends credence to the nonbeliever's skepticism. High-profile Christians are constantly putting their hypocrisy on display by criticizing the sins of others while ignoring their own. Matthew 7:3-5
@@debriddle2 it is good to learn the difference between authentic Christians following the teachings of Jesus and Christian Fundamental Nationalists who are fanatic and political. The first practices a life of love, charity, tolerance. The second tries to dictate toxic anti-women ideology and a toxic judgemental intolerant of many.
I bought two large frames, $7 difference in price. I asked manager if I vitus have the lower price for both. She looked it up and replied nope the higher price was the current price. She commented, " so you got a good deal on the one " hmmm didn't feel like a good deal.
@@andriagant3383 by law they can't charge higher than what is marked. But since I asked they could have offered both at the lower price, as others have stated their HL's did.
Ya that’s bad customer service and a bad attitude to boot. She treated you almost like you got away with something. At that point why not remove the tag from the higher priced item as though it was missing the tag. They’d obv charge you the price of the matching item you brought up - the lower price. Hey, tags go missing all the time in stores….just another time a tag was missing.
Well, they are probably selling off the old stock at original price and the new stock has gone up in price. The only way to fix this would be to increase the price of the old stock to the new price and I don’t see how this would benefit us.
Why can’t retailers round off the prices to an even amount? Take for example, $9.99. It’s one penny from $10.00, certainly not closer to $9.00. But thanks to psychological-marketing, people actually believe things are priced lower then reality. I think that’s a scam!
That is not a scam. That is actually honest pricing. As a store owner you buy jars at $5 and sell them at $7, order more but now have to pay $8 for the same jar and sell them for $10. Most stores mark them all at $10, even the ones they originally bought lower and planned to sell at $7.
It’s not a scam It’s just a price increase so the cheaper one will be towards the front. This happens all the time in grocery stores, clothing stores, home improvement etc. 😊
My aunt caught this, and they gave her the item at the lower price. That was 2 years ago! Hobbie lobbie told her that the reason was it depended when the shipment came. 🤪 Best to check! They definitely need to fix this! They have a pricing problem
I've worked retail and it's true, earlier shipments can either go on sale or be priced differently. Not necessarily scam. Personally, I like Hobby Lobby and just like any entity be aware and make your decision. Watch for sales, be a wise shopper.
@@norapeterson6331apparently not according to other comments. Your location seems better than others! It will always be an issue without a computerized tracking system. That’s part of why humanity uses bar codes and computers is bc paper tags and no tracking is chaos like this! No way to track inventory and know what is even out there! Hobby Lobby doesn’t even know. They can’t. They are lying when they make up reasons to explain it away like it’s temporary or being resolved. Bc they believe in fairy tales and boogie men like bar codes being DEMONIC this chaos is permanent. And their employees are stuck w this chaos (and apparently given a weekly list to”memorize” of numbers/pricing which I’ve heard is nearly impossible so they do not and fake it best they can 🤣 I love how this belief in demons which aren’t real, everyone has become a bunch of experienced liars - and liars def ARE real.
I wish I'd seen this sooner. I was at HL yesterday. I just check for damages on the item. I will be on the lookout for next time. Thank you for sharing
I love Hobby Lobby so the heads up about the price tag differences is good to know. That being said, it’s NOT a scam or fraud like many are trying to purport. It’s totally legit. Each tag is marked clearly. Buy or don’t buy the item(s). Personally I would much rather find the good deals, rather then they come through with a sticker gun and mark all the items to the newer higher price. It is ridiculous to complain about this practice. I live the fact that they don’t. People should be grateful to find deals when and where they can. Things everywhere are getting so expensive. Have you been to a thrift store lately? Salvation Army and Good Will, etc. are pricing like they are department stores for many items.
Had that happen to me too with the hardware, I bought a ton of knobs and when I got home realized that I paid more for half of them, it would have cost me more in gas to return them so the sucky part is that a lot of us have tight budgets and we the consumer feels swindled on purpose... once in awhile there is an honest mistake, but there are dozens here, cannot be by mistake! After that I really check everything now! Thank you for showing not to just grab, really look at prices.
It's not a "scam". When they order the same products they sometimes come in at a different price than the original. You will see the old item with maybe a lower price, then you will see the new stock with a higher price. Hobby Lobby has no control if prices are increased when getting new stock in.
Not a scam. Things ordered from different suppliers. They could just up all the prices to the higher price. They are keeping there profit at a certain percentage. If you check the UPC code they are probably different # Last season and new season can change price. Happens on clothes all the time. Once found a pair in jeans for 1.00 at Walmart. But same jeans on the rack were 29.99. The employee informed me that the $1.00 pair was last season and the others were all new season
Right, and you can look through the inventory and possibly save a little or Hobby Lobby could change all the prices of the same items to reflect the current higher price. Looks to me like instead of “scamming” people, they are passing on the savings!
They can be in violating with weights and means Department audits. Companies use to have audits done at random by them. Guess their to busy going after Amish farmers and small businesses owners these days. My opinion
The different prices has been happening to me for years!! I asked a store clerk and they said they might not look different but they’re priced differently because they are different! Huh?🥴
U CANT MAKE THIS STUFF UP!!! (Or, wait a minute, that’d EXACTLY what they are doing!!!). Their different answers to the same question is mind boggling!! I’ll have to give them an A for creativeness!!
@@foofookachoo1136 I thought it was just me! I can’t tell my husband this. I found this quite expensive mirror for $35. I didn’t buy it cause I just got out of the hospital and that I was being stupid. Then I wrestled back and forth I my mind that it was stupid not to get it. So I told my husband about it and he came home with it but it was $135 pm clearance when I KNOW it said $35.00!!! I used to be a huge couponer and rarely get any price wrong. Bless his heart he picked up the wrong one with the big price. It’s w great mirror and I’ll never get rid of it. Hobby Lobby might be getting the eye 👁️ from here on out. Lol.😂😂. So I have the more expensive imaginary $135 clearance mirror when the others looked exactly the same but were $35. Right……
I worked for Sears for over 10 years, other retail stores AND I have a B.S. in Merchandising. Hobby Lobby is intentionally commiting a CRIME called "bait and switch" which is covered under Federal Consumer law. Sears was responsible for the government passing these laws decades ago, where they would advertise a sale price and when the customer came into the store either they'd only received one or two items at that price and they were sold out, or a salesperson would be trained to disparage the sale item and talk the customer into spending more money on something more expensive. By the time I worked for Sears, not only did this NEVER happen, absolutely ALL employees had to attend yearly training to recresh them on how NOT to commit consumer fraud. Hobby Lobby has practiced intentional consumer fraud for years. They intentionally refuse to use bar code scanning knowing their cashiers cannot possibly remember everything that is on sale so that customers will be overcharged. Like all other Corporate entities in our country today, corporations are no longer prosecuted for breaking any laws.
WOW😵💫if their prices are going up that much from last year to this year I’m definitely going to be checking Home Goods and TGMaxx because they have a lot of the same stuff😮😮😮
Now I know to check for the cheaper price. And when they reduce to 40 -50% off, the higher priced items are usually left and you are not getting the bargain you thought you were getting.
The new item is higher in price and the ones they have on hand are the lower price, it’s no different then a grocery store from week to week things getting higher, be happy they still have one with the lower price.
Makes sense since they use price instead of bar codes, older stock is cheaper. Not a scam. Look at it as a benefit - if they used bar codes, the older stock would cost more as they update the price.
The crazy thing is that someone will buy the less expensive item and leave the higher price behind & the next person will end up paying more not realizing it had a price that was lower.
It's not a scam, but inflation and a realistic look at how the same product increases in price each year. I have been a retail store manager for 22 years and my company sells the same goods year over year...but each year that same item increases in price. Hobby Lobby's flaw is that their items have the retail price marked on the tag, which is why you find those differences in price. Most companies have a "price policy," which means they (we) have to honor the price marked, regardless of the actual current retail. Always fun to find the same item with the cheaper $, that's for sure!
I've seen this also, I believe the newer items are coming in at the higher prices, they aren't trying to rip people off. They leave the older items at the price they came in when shipped. Now , if they marked those items up, to make more money off of them...... that would be a different story. Prices are just jumping everywhere.
You should clarify this by making a new video called Hobby Lobby is NOT scamming people. This title isn't fair, because they are definitely not scamming. They're allowing their customers to still get the lower price from older merchandise.
2:41...check the measurements. That one isn't fair to present in this convo. One is (S) for small and the other is (M) for Medium. Inventory is getting restocked with the "NEW" increased price. The store didn't sell out of the old stock at the lower price. When you take it to the register they will honor the lower for you when you buy more than one. If you get a lower price at another store bring your receipt they will match the other store price. THEY ARE NOT SCAMMING YOU. It is unfortunate but EVERYTHING the costs are increasing. PS. If they stuck a sticker over the lower price with the new increased price...you wouldn't be happy then either would you?
@dianeguy7452 You don't see it because most stores reprice and charge you more for the old item that was originally priced less. You prefer that?? Not me. I think that's dishonest.
@@janetta5827 So true! I find it funny no one is protesting at the fuel pumps. The fuel you pump today, priced at todays price was bought at last months price. OFTEN much lower. Lobster for example may have been flown in yesterday, paid for last week, and yet the price is set the morning you are served. Commerce 101. This HL example shows the UPS and downs of supply chain. How inventory prices fluxuate due to fuel costs or shipping or PORT ACCESS. (which is in the news now...) Nothing is guaranteed. HL doesn't deserve the heat on this. They truly don't.
It’s not okay that they have jumped some items up to fifteen bucks more! If you think there’s no dishonesty going on in just that fact alone you’re crazy! Also, I’ve watched documentary’s on this very scam that stores do this to try and make money off unknowing customers then act like they are just trying to give you the better priced items before they are sold out!🙄 I bet if you go back a year from now and look at an item they will be doing it then as well with whatever price they can trump them up too. SMH!
This happened to me at tj max. Same item, diff prices. Cashier said it depends on date item came to store and vendor it came from. Not sure what’s going on at hobby lobby unless they aren’t updating old prices. But maybe that’s good, so we can compare prices. Thanks for showing us!
@karengordon6610 nooo... they believe (not all of us Christians believe this) but they believe barcodes are evil and like the mark of the beast. But I'll point out that they do use a numerical code that is on the products as I see it on my strings of beads that they then hand type into the computer (not really any different than other stores) why do people have to have an are to grind against hobbylobby...it's one of my favorite stores! 😍
Hobby Lobby came to my town 6 years ago (May 2018) and I'm proud to say I've never set foot in that store. As a company, they stink in so many ways and I will not give them my business.
They raised prices as materials and the gas to deliver products has gone up but hobby lobby leaves the lower price items that were still on the shelf because they were manufactured at a lower cost ...It goes to show you how much inflation has gone up in a very short period of time
Oh wow, I’m glad you are filming this. They need to change this immediately. I’ve never heard of this. Makes me wonder if any other stores are doing this.
So you want them to raise the prices on the old inventory? They're certainly not going to lower the prices on the newer shipments since they paid more to get them.
They are not scamming anyone at all. It is the older price and it hasn't been bought because it happened to be in the back of the Shelf at one point. They are actually being more honest and fair than other places. It's just the opposite of what this video is entailing
It's because HL only marks their items a certain percent above their cost. So one item may be obtained by HL for x amount and they mark it up a certain percent. But their next shipment may have cost THEM less and therefore they are only charging that same margin with the lower priced item, therefore passing their savings on to you instead of charging you the higher price as per the previous shipment. Its NOT a SCAM. Please dont besmerge HL by calling it such. You as the customer have the right to look through all the items and decide which item you want which is clearly marked. They are literally doing you a favor by only charging the customer a certain margin above their own cost. Its business, not a scam at all.
Well if you haven't noticed... We keep sending money to other countries and printing another batch. The USA buying power has taken a big hit in the last 3 years, and especially in the last year. Our buying power is now on turd level and declining. Crap from China cost more now, fuel and shipping to get it here, and nearly a 35% decrease in buying power makes the "new inventory" a different retail price. Hobby Lobby is not running a scam... Just be thankful that they haven't gone back and raised the price tag on the older stock. The way I see it they have a profit margin they have to achieve based on the price they purchased it at. The smart thing to do as a consumer is check the price tag to see which one you can get cheaper.
What shocks me more than HL's identical items being marked at different prices... is actually the prices themselves... that is shocking! Even with a coupon, still way over priced for what it is.
The overpricing is what irks me so much. even their "sales" at 40% off every couple of weeks only brings it down to "almost reasonable." Just price everything fairly to begin with.
I talked to HL about this. Irs NOT A SCAM. They don't remove old prices from things when they get new stock. That's all there is to it. But, it is not a scam.
The cheaper tag was purchased by the store for a cheaper price. When their prices go up their stuff is marked more expensive. The tags are also already on the items when the store receives it.
I’ve seen Walmart had done something like that I’m a preschool teacher so I just have to have a lamination machine in the craft area same machine 10 dollars more in the office supplies 10 dollars less… and some of their baking items too… I say my momma didn’t raise no fool… lol
There have been shipping issues for years ! After the Covid drama … the cost of goods have skyrocketed, look at our grocery bills ! Some are probably from different shipments, a lot of this merch is basic replenishment. Peeps need. To wake up ….Appreciate the lower price and buy it now , things are not going to get any better .I definitely would not call it a scam…..
The price difference is easy to explain. The cheaper marking is older. The higher price merchandise is newer and price has increased. I've seen that in other stores.
This is what happens when you don’t have an inventory system. This happens all the time, they get new stock and it comes in with a different price. The cashiers have to manually enter the prices. No scanning. It’s like come on Hobby Lobby get with real world and upgrade to modern technology.
That would cost them money and they are too cheap to do it. I have started to branch out and do more online shopping at different stores. A lot of home goods type stores are about 30 -45 minutes away from where I live and not feasible to do that often as I own a business and time is an issue. So I may spend a little more but the quality has been better and it's less of a hassle. I don't have the time to check 20 items and find the cheaper price.
@@denisevalentemcgee4802 My understanding is that Hobby Lobby does not believe in bar codes. "Power of humans over computers" according to the founder and CEO's book.
I feel like when there's a price change (ie. they get more in stock and the price has gone up) is the reason for this. They'll sell out of the ones at the older price eventually, and people will keep buying at the new price. It's not rocket science or a scam🤦🏽♀️
I don't see this as a scam. They didn't take the windfall profit on the older items prices when the newer more expensive of the same came in. Most stores raise the prices on everything when the price goes up - even something already sitting there that they paid less for. It's not a scam it's a courtesy. A courtesy they probably wouldn't give us if they didn't have such an antiquated pricing system but a courtesy none the less. Everyone calling it a scam will probably cause them to correct this going forward and just grab the extra cash when they can.
That's because they mark everything by hand which they would have to do at the store since they don't have an actual system like barcoding. They would be using too many man hours to do that so for then they have probably crunched the numbers to know it would't be worth it. They have made plenty of money getting rid of their 40% off coupon alone that would more than pay for them dealing with this. Especially if the prices are going to go up on the new stock at almost 30-50% or more.. They are not losing money.
@@denisevalentemcgee4802 Your points are correct but I didn't say they were losing money. I said it was due to an antiquated pricing system but thank you for adding the details for anyone who doesn't shop there.
@@margielee2088 I meant that sentence to emphasize both of our points that at the end of the day they would motivate her doing it out of the goodness of their hearts to save us money but rather they have figured it was the only way given the circumstance. When you turn around and mark up the new stock by almost double from what they were selling it before that they are more than making up for it. You and I are saying the exact same thing …I was just adding the fact that they are not losing money or doing it as a favor to the consumer. They are more than getting compensated. I think you and I agree on that point also. 😃
No, it’s not a scam. As a former buyer for a large retailer, it has more to do with when and where you buy your stock replenishments. You may buy an item that you previously paid more or less for but your standard markup percentage for retail sales will be the same. Same goes for if you buy the same items from multiple factories. I pay $1 from factory A and $1.50 from factory B the same applies. Standard markup percentages will apply.
It's actually illegal. Victoria Secret did the same thing and was sued for it. It's a Robinson-Pattman Violation. Unless you tell people they need to scavenge for the better price, it's illegal. Stop excusing big corporations.
I bought two hand towels on Amazon for $16 and two days later, the identical towels with the same SKU are $28. Why aren't people outraged about the insane price increases going on in this country instead of how they're presented on the shelves?
It's been that way for awhile. I think it's just higher pricing coming in on the new stock. So the lower priced items were on the shelf before the newer priced stuff was added.
You don't have to be a rocket scientist to figure out that the lowest priced item is from previous stock and the higher price is from new stock that has recently been sent to the store.
I will definitely be checking and rechecking prices at Hobby Lobby! I love this store and hope that there is a good reason for this happening. Thanks for showing us this Katie.
From what I saw is because they don't use bar codes and update by hand. If the prices change they just update those. I think I saw it happens at TJ too. It's just best to always check multiple items.
TJMaxx goes by the date they receive an item so that is why two of the same items will be priced differently...and they won't price match it to the lower price
@judybesse4058 I figured. Pretty sure that's what hobby lobby is doing. There's a reason that grandma's in the 90s were known to price check everything at checkout at Kmart.
Having the same items at different prices is against the law, period. Somebody should take them to court. I will not shop there for home decor. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.
The difference between them and others, is that when a price is increased, they don’t re-price the items already in the store. Most items come in with the new price, that’s why at their store, you should always check to grab the cheapest. No scam there, they have the best clearance prices from All crafting stores.
I gave you a thumbs down since you threw Hobby Lobby under the bus. When new shipments come in and the items cost more in the next shipment, Hobby Lobby has 2 choices: 1. Raise the prices of the items on the floor to match the new incoming prices of the same items. Which by the way is what most stores do to you 2. Let people still buy the items that have come in at the lower price. Hobby Lobby like all stores have the option of what to do. They chose to save their customers money and you labeled them as a scam. Shame on you. Why didn’t you find a store manager and ask them why. This is how great stores get a bad name. People putting junk on RUclips without getting the facts. I think you owe Hobby Lobby an apology.😢
When you read stories of difficulty finding employees, it really isn't surprising that HL wouldn't waste time re-ticketing items when a price increase happens. I enjoy the hunt! Makes me feel like I've gotten an even better bargain!
When we get new stock with price changes at the store where I work, we need to retag the old merchandise at the new price. Hobby Lobby lets you benefit from the old price. Just keep your eyes open.
I did a video showing a Hobby Lobby haul , and was shocked when I was going through the seed beads to find four different prices. They ranged from $2.99 up to $4.49 a tube. I got as many of the $2.99 tubes as I could in the colors I use and then picked up the other ones I needed in the higher prices. When I got up to the front I made sure that I put them in the categories so that I wouldn’t get charged the highest price for all of them but they didn’t give me a deal I paid what was on each tube, not the lowest price for all of them. Since I did that video I’ve seen other people talking about this on RUclips, so I was really interested to watch your video as well! I had no idea it was so widespread! I hope people are paying attention to prices when they’re picking things up because if can make a huge difference !!
Regardless of the reason, this practice needs to be corrected. Say a person may notice a basket for 7.99 and 12.99, they take the lower price basket, 5 minutes later someone sees the basket and because there is only one left, purchases it at the higher price. When I come across something like this, I think I'll ask to speak to a manager and see what they say.
Nope. They all have the same sku. they change them for inventory purposes yearly, so they know what they throw away every season (dumpster diving pays!!!) If that is the case, by law, they must disclose "year" somehow. This is switch and bait at its best. Holier than thou no more.
I worked in retail for a long time. It happens all the time. You get a shipment of products if all do not sell they stay. The next shipment comes in and prices go up. Most stores will mark the cheeper ones up when they found. Some will not change price. So you can look for cheeper on and buy if you want multiples ask if they can mark lower price. This is not a scam!
Same thing happened to me at Homehoods and Kirkland, the cashier told me that their prices went up and they haven’t been able to catch up with changing of tags 🤷♀️
Why is this a SCAM???? When I was younger, many stores with 'price tags" would KEEP OLDER inventory WITH CHEAPER PRICES AT THEVLIWER PRICE! Higher prices were newer inventory. KUDOS to Hobby Lobby for not raising prices on older inventory!
No a SCAM! They are obeying the law! In the (19)70's shop owners would commonly "mark-up" prices on old stock when new shipments came in at a higher price point. A law was created which stopped these "unearned" mark-ups. Old stock must be sold at the old price. New stock was sold at the new price. Your generation is not used to seeing these types of price differences. Probably because Walmart (& others) just changes the price in the computer & on the little shelf sign. They've apparently been getting around the '70's law. (Maybe that's the SCAM you're missing.)
I have worked many years in retail, if I had to guess corporate did a mark up and changed prices at warehouse but the product at the stores were not marked up
Notice, the ones in the back are the higher price. Probably due to cost/price increases. Instead of marking the less expensive pensive (olser) stock Up, they're putting it in front to sell at the old price, thus moving out the old stock & saving buyers money. You also remarked that the old sticker price😅 8:25 was honored at the checkout stand when buying multiples.
Not a scam, just a different price in a different season. They need a computerized system that makes pricing more consistent. But it is good to be aware to check the price on the label.
@@genera1013which is literally INSANE and I cannot stress that enough I refuse to shop there based on their treatment of women workers and refusal to support/pay for their birth control and taking that to the Supreme Court. UUUUUUGGGGGGG. They do not think that barcodes are demonic. When Mr. Green started the company he wanted hands on the items so they know what they are, what they look like etc. Familiarity with your product is the best way to help your customers know what they are buying. I worked for Hobby Lobby for 17 years, worked my way up from seasonal to management, and at NO TIME does their insurance company NOT cover birth control. Their insurance covers 17 of the 21 different birth controls! 17 of 21 get it! They just do not believe in the different "Day After" pills, that they consider abortion. I have heard this ever since those pills came out. The news that spread about it CONVENIENTLY left OUT that fact. So get your facts straight before commenting on something like that.
WOW , I'm between seasons so trying to take a break from Hobby Lobby for the moment! I am so happy you brought this to my attention. I had not heard that ! great info , as always!
I would just try to check the tags when purchasing an item and if available go with the lowest/older stock. I get people being annoyed but I would imagine if they put a sticker over the lower price with the current higher price and if people become aware then people would be ticked, damned if you do…
People just like to clutch their pearls...like dang it, look for the lower price and move on. It really isn't that serious...it's just fake greenery...
I see the rise in prices at other stores, including grocery stores. I was a cashier in college at Sears where items were set out for sale in Q3/Q4 of one year. Then new stock of the same item were put out in the next year at a higher price (because of rise in pricing from the supplier). Old items (with old qr codes) were not retagged because that stock is older and was bought from the supplier at the old cost. A retailer will always shoot for 10-35% profit. Costs of goods have gone up 30-50% since 2020. I'm happy HL doesn't retag all items like other stores do. And I'll look at all items for the cheapest price. 😊
🤷🏼♀️I’m so glad you did the research on the prices, I didn’t really trust the videos I saw on that, but, Dang, Hobby Lobby🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️. Thank You PI Katie🙌
An associate told me that they have “your” pricing now on most floral arrangements and vases/planters. They are making a lot of changes in pricing and I’m not happy about it. I saw several things that were exactly the same and different prices too!
Think of the time & effort it would take to remove & replace price stickers. Everything has gone up and this goes for Hobby Lobby too. As new merchandise comes in it has the new price but the older merchandise is still on the shelves with original prices. People can be so clueless & calling it a SCAM is ridiculous! And claiming how wrong Hobby Lobby is for ‘tricking’ customers and they can no longer shop there? Great! More on the shelves for the rest of us😁 Stop & think before spreading nonsense.
I definitely understand that they’re raising prices like many other stores! This video is to make you aware to look for the LOWEST priced item!! Happy shopping everyone!!!😊
It does seem weird they are doing that but if they change the prices then the lesser ones may go up .
Well, this wasn’t the only purpose of your video just by what you named the video.
Yes but also to be sure NOT to shop there anymore. Go to thrift stores. You will find lots of Hobby Lobby stuff.
Why are ALL of the labels listed as ©️2014???
Thank you for this. “Scam” is such a harsh word to carelessly throw around. The internet is a crazy place.
@@oceanteabearYes same with Walmart is 7 days, Target is 14 days, etc. It's called Price Match
Thanks for clearing that up. People need to be careful saying a store is scamming people, they just may get sued.
And while we are at it, Hobby Lobby needs to bring back the coupon!!!!!
They told me that someone sued them over the coupon so they took it away. Idk if that’s true but that’s what a worker told me .
And they use to alternate weeks with table stuff on sale and then wall stuff and now it’s way different and I hate it.

In any store that have multiple items I always check all prices. If different purchase the cheaper.

And you think that's ok? lol

Get ready. It will happen to clothes, school supplies, food, everything.
Im guessing there's the "price" then there's the various markdown sales? And some don't get put back to the original price?
...or perhaps when they purchase from their vendors, sometimes the same item has different prices for various reasons?
I don’t think this is legal, they can’t have the same thing with two different prices! There’s no way this can be legal!
I can’t believe how many items increased almost 100%. That’s insane
Don't blame them. Blame inflation.

Absolutely flabbergasted. Always trusted the store. THE END.
It's not just Hobby Lobby
beware everywhere you shop.
I have many times said never mind I don't want it
This certainly is a great warning to check the prices on ALL the items.
Glad I saw this video, Thank you
Hobby Lobby is NOT scamming anyone. 🙂
Scammers are always scammers
Yes, it’s bad business and just plain lazy.
I don't think it's communication or laziness. It's calculated and purposely meant to pull the wool over the customer's eyes. They are swindlers! They are wolves in sheep's clothing.
@@cicileigh393they are clearly marked with the price so it’s not deceptive. One should always read the price tag.
Especially since retail is automatically marked up x 3+ from the wholesale cost anyway!
Absolutely agree, take the old off the shelf before adding new. If you only have a few still place them in the "sale" area.
Thanks for doing the video!

what everyone needs to understand is that the prices on items are changing...the ones that are priced lower are the older items that have not sold to date...the higher price ones are the newer ones that have been sent to stock....once the lower ones sell the higher price will be the price from now on until the next increase....the is not something new as every retail store goes through this
Absolutely correct.
You're expecting people to actually use the mass that's located within their skull. Much easier to cry scam!
That happened to me at Michael's with their items being labeled differently therefore subject to different sales.

I bought two large frames, $7 difference in price. I asked manager if I vitus have the lower price for both. She looked it up and replied nope the higher price was the current price. She commented, " so you got a good deal on the one " hmmm didn't feel like a good deal.
Ewwwwwww 😞😞😞😞
Whatever happened to the "good faith", whatever the price tags says, they honor it? Not the consumer's fault if tag is outdated...
So would have preferred them to charge the current price which was the higher price for both…just curious
It's not old stock.
I love hobby lobby but things like this will make me stop shopping there 😢
Please read my comment (above) to understand what is happening. They are actually being more honest than other stores
You’d have to stop shopping everywhere to avoid this. Some retailers hide it better than others.
I don't shop period unless I really NEED an item!
It's inflation. It's hitting everyone.
It can happen anywhere, that is why you need to double check prices.
$29.99 to $49.99???
BUT ITS NOT AN INCREASE! It's a decrease!
They are very fair and will always honor that. They've done it for me ❤
@@norapeterson6331apparently not according to other comments.
And their employees are stuck w this chaos (and apparently given a weekly list to”memorize” of numbers/pricing which I’ve heard is nearly impossible so they do not and fake it best they can 🤣
I love how this belief in demons which aren’t real, everyone has become a bunch of experienced liars - and liars def ARE real.
I wish I'd seen this sooner. I was at HL yesterday.
I just check for damages on the item. I will be on the lookout for
next time.
True
It’s not acceptable retail practice though. Antiquated, disorganized. Ridiculous.
My opinion
It is not a scam. It's old stock and new stock. Inflation has caused newer items to be more in price.
Thanks for looking into this problem. I appreciate your channel.

WOW!!!! Yes, I'll be checking everything now.!!😮😮
WOW😵💫if their prices are going up that much from last year to this year I’m definitely going to be checking Home Goods and TGMaxx because they have a lot of the same stuff😮😮😮
Now I know to check for the cheaper price. And when they reduce to 40 -50% off, the higher priced items are usually left and you are not getting the bargain you thought you were getting.
Yes! Every time she picked up a clearance item I thought about that 'original' price.
No other stores do this. Stop excusing big corporations.
By law you cannot mark up old merchandise.

The price ALWAYS used to be cheaper!
Sure looks like a scam to me plus there overpriced in the first place for what it is
This is my first time watching one of your videos. What I really appreciated was your accurate descriptions of the items.
Yes they are. Most people don't compare the price on the exact same product that's sitting next to it. Stop excusing big Corporations.

I shop ALOT. I have never seen this in any store ever. I don’t like it
@dianeguy7452 You don't see it because most stores reprice and charge you more for the old item that was originally priced less.
This happened to me at tj max. Same item, diff prices. Cashier said it depends on date item came to store and vendor it came from. Not sure what’s going on at hobby lobby unless they aren’t updating old prices. But maybe that’s good, so we can compare prices. Thanks for showing us!
Another reason to never set foot in that store. If they weren't so weird about barcodes (among other things), this would be a none issue.
Used to work there, we were never allowed to use the bar code at all. We had to go by the price. Which tells me something is going on.
That is why I have not been back 😮
I love hobbylobby and they have my hobby needs! And also love that they are Christian * (Catholic Christian though) ohh well more for me I guess!
They raised prices as materials and the gas to deliver products has gone up but hobby lobby leaves the lower price items that were still on the shelf because they were manufactured at a lower cost ...It goes to show you how much inflation has gone up in a very short period of time
Holy cow! I had no idea about the price differences! I'm definitely going to double check those tags from now on!
They all do it, that is why is good to double check prices.
They are not scamming anyone at all. It is the older price and it hasn't been bought because it happened to be in the back of the Shelf at one point. They are actually being more honest and fair than other places. It's just the opposite of what this video is entailing
THANK YOU!!!
Usually the tags are not suppose to change ...as the price drops there suppose to notate it w a sign or a sticker w the new price adhered to the tag.
I realize prices are going up - it “hurts” every where we go. I am learning to be SO much more intentional with what and when I buy
Ugh, frustrating, but definitely happening at other stores, not just Hobby Lobby.
Wow, I had no idea about the price difference on products! I will definitely check prices from now on! Thank you!

Yeah I was told that different pricing is simply different shipments. So I will definitely be checking pricing on each item!
Good for you for catching those prices and verifying!!! Lol 😂

Thank you so much for the information, I really appreciate it, I’m gonna make sure to double check from now on
Having the same items at different prices is against the law, period.
When new shipments come in and the items cost more in the next shipment, Hobby Lobby has 2 choices:
1. Raise the prices of the items on the floor to match the new incoming prices of the same items. Which by the way is what most stores do to you

Thank you so much for this info. Hobby lobby needs to be called out. Won't shop there anymore. Done
He won’t shop there anymore because they allow you to buy the old stock at the old price and not the new raised price
The lower price is the prior year or older and the higher price is the current year.
Don’t you think they should change the prices? Also all the items are mixed, sometimes more expensive at the back, or just all mixed together.
Yes they should change the prices!
Looks like price gouging to me! I am seeing this everywhere and if you see what the profits are to some of these companies its mindblowing!
It's actually illegal to do mark-ups on prior inventory.
I have worked many years in retail, if I had to guess corporate did a mark up and changed prices at warehouse but the product at the stores were not marked up
How about ask someone? Maybe a manager has a good answer🤷♀️
You can't ask them anything because they give you a snappy attitude.🤣🤣
Notice, the ones in the back are the higher price. Probably due to cost/price increases. Instead of marking the less expensive pensive (olser) stock Up, they're putting it in front to sell at the old price, thus moving out the old stock & saving buyers money. You also remarked that the old sticker price😅 8:25 was honored at the checkout stand when buying multiples.
Not a scam, just a different price in a different season. They need a computerized system that makes pricing more consistent. But it is good to be aware to check the price on the label.
Pretty sure they'd need barcodes to achieve that and the owners of Hobby Lobby are super religious and think barcodes are demonic.
@@genera1013which is literally INSANE and I cannot stress that enough
I refuse to shop there based on their treatment of women workers and refusal to support/pay for their birth control and taking that to the Supreme Court.
But of course when they won under religious freedom, the law says everyone needs to be covered so the workers are still covered so the govt covers. That’s US, guys. You and me. WE HAVE TO PAY FOR IT.
I believe all women deserve that coverage yes and but their employers should be paying for it along with the rest of their medical coverage and stay out of their workers medical care. It’s disgusting an employer gets to make medical decisions for an employee to me. I don’t care why, religious freedom for you should stop where my body begins.
@@kkilljoy3588 I absolutely agree. I'm an artist, but I refuse to shop there. They're quite literally putting their beliefs over people's safety. Plus there's all the stuff about the stolen artifacts. As if forcing your religion onto others wasn't bad enough.
Not a scam. Price increase, like everything else we buy.
Next time you see two, make sure you buy the most expensive one 🤪
🤪🤪🤪
If you look close at the tag and look at the date you will see that it’s last year’s product. Look closer before you jump to conclusions of a scam.
