That was a missed offside call there on the goal. The handball was kind of sudden getting shot at, I think a good non-call (hand was down, didn't react to shot, ball to hand). The second handball (where the grey player saved it off the line into the back of another player) had no hand near it.
The refs get a C- in this one. Guy get a red, their team gets the free kick. ARs didn't seem comfortable.
Nah, the first handball in the box came from a throw in, no way was it 'suddenly shot'
The freekick for the team that got the red card is correct.
The freekick was already given, and the red card came before the game was restarted. So we start the game with the freekick.
I actually think the ref did a fine job, the offside goal is obviously a mistake from the linesman, but how is that the refs fault? He follows what the linesman is calling.
The first hand ball is a penalty, in my book. But you could make the argument that the player expected the striker in front of him, to get the ball, so a no-call can be discussed.

yes the first goal is offside, but if the defender doesn't stop and put his arm in the air the goal never happens. Entirely his fault
Absolutely! I can't stand when defenders do that but it happens at every level. Just keep playing and let the ref make the call. He's not gonna change his mind because you put your hand up

Some pretty bad calls but white's finishing was shocking. They outclassed grey completely until they got desperate and started leaving the counter on because they were committing forward for the equalizer. If they took any of their chances while down 1-0 they should have run away with this even with the poor decisions.
I don't agree that white's finishing was that much worse than gray's.
At a low level, there's a lot we could criticize about the referee and his assistants' performances.
The senior AR was mostly okay, but got tripped up on a few directional decisions. His positioning was obviously really poor at 31:45, but this situation is rarer than blue steak.
The junior AR also had some confusion regarding directional decisions. His body language was also not great. And of course, the miss on the offside at 2:55 is unfortunate. But, honestly, I prefer an AR be wrong giving the benefit of the doubt to the attacker that the opposite, which is the most common error from inexperienced ARs.
The referee was good in the first half. I'm okay with the non-PK calls on the handling shouts, especially at 13:50 when the ball reached the defender unexpectedly due to the missed header by the opponent. I would have liked 17:50 to not be handball, as an errant play by a teammate is the most difficult situation to avoid touching the ball with one's hand. (The IFAB specifically wants this not called.) The second half was rougher; delaying the restart and dissent needed to be at least managed better, if not cautioned outright. Another thing to approve is how he addresses offenses with his whistle and body language. He always whistles and behaves as if every foul is of the same severity, which can give the players the immediate sense that you didn't see a clear YC offense the same way they did in real time and are just producing it because of their reaction. See 29:56 for an example.
But of course, the moment of truth was 25:50, where three YC offenses happen in the span of about ten seconds (Grey #12, Grey #5 and White #44's second). Unfortunately, this was not managed well and I think the referee just couldn't keep straight everything he had seen to come to the correct outcome (the three YCs and a DFK for White near the 40 yard line).
Now at a high level, I think that if the players' behavior is so bad that you need a Provincial referee with decades of experience to control every amateur cup game, the game is in trouble. Because this isn't sustainable. Eventually, you're going to be forced to use even less experienced referees for these matches as more of them leave the game. The matches will get even more out of hand, more referees will quit, and the cycle will repeat until there are just not enough to assign to every game. Giving a spotlight to a partisan to vent about the referee publicly does not help this - I pray the referee doesn't see it, or at least can take it in stride if he does.
Watching a video is easier than at the moment calls.
As much as there can be a missed call, like the offside to the first goal, much was par.

It's called triangle. All three refs take outside positions and take numbers for any offenses.
My first mass fight,it was hard not getting involved, but as a ref, let the players separate their teammates.

So, the offside for the first goal - Defender was a muppet, he could see that if he stood dtill, the offside call wouldve been obvious to AR, but in the end it was close enough to be an eh call by eye on the field.
First hand ball - Arms to the side yes, but hand extends out to hit the ball. Thats a penalty
Second hand ball - Literall off one players foot to the other players behind, White need to take a basic anatomy class.

White Blue Balled thelmselves with so many missed goal scoring opportunities, they got themselves angry and it carried over to their game.
White 44 is another muppet, could see him getting carded a mile away, his own team had to keep telling him off.
White Goalie spent more time out of his box than I've ever seen in any other game, almost resulting in 2 goals
The first goal, offsides or not, the white team gk had horrible mechanics and positioning, then closed it our with not even making an effort to stop the shot. That goal is on him

Those who bash the ref in the comments in every video obviously don’t look at the behavior of the players in these leagues. Constant unsportsmanlike conduct, calling for EVERY touch on them, calling for cards, sometimes violence and thinking they can escape consequences.
Bet a lot of the same people are those who behave the same way themselves while playing…

This comment is unfair. It is perfectly acceptable to criticize poor referee decisions while also acknowledging the poor behavior a far majority of the players in these leagues demonstrate. There are just as many players as referees that watch these videos for different reasons and different perspectives.

That was a handball at 13:50. The player even looks down at the ball to track it while he redirects it with his arm below the armpit!

Poor match from the Assistant Referee's in this one. Everything from the missed offside call, not staying with the second to last defender, missed directions on throw-ins. Referee had a good game in the first half.
- Can see why he missed the handling shout around the 14th minute mark, but I would've liked to seen that called. Slight adjustment on positioning and he would've had that.
- Around the 25th minute of the video he should have given #12 gray a 2nd yellow and gray #5 a yellow. It was here I think the referee lost control of the match. Not that I condone white #44's actions, but that could have been avoided.
- Around the 32nd minute of the video the Assistant Referee was horribly out of position. While I understand the confusion that happens when the GK is not the farthest defender back, that was poor for this level of play.
- The straight red in the 33rd minute was harsh and it would have been a lot different had the referee not lost control of this match.
There are more critiques that could be made after this point, but it was lost already. Even though the referee's could have improved, this type of behaviour is difficult to manage and becomes a lost cause at a certain point in these types of leagues.
Let’s not glorify vilifying the referees with “post game interviews”. The white team missed three clear chances so they are as much at fault as any decision the referee made (or didn’t make).

I scanned the transcript and the description because I wanted to find out what age group this was and what round of the Ontario Cup was this game.
Unfortunately I had no luck.
I'm interested because, like a lot of others, I played in the Ontario Cup tournament for many years, mostly getting knocked out in the 2nd - 4th round 😂
Although two team(s) I played for, Burlington, did make it to the finals, once when I was 8 or 9 and again when I was 16 -17 in what was then called the Jumior B league.
18 was the age limit.
Oddly, in both finals we lost to a team called St. Andrew's.

When white throws ball away the first time, why was that a call against white? Not for the ball the ball throw but what he did before. It looked fair. I played it back in slow mo and still don’t see a foul.
I have enjoyed IST videos however adding the interview with the woman badmouthing the refs is very unprofessional. IST is now part of the problem with the lack of refs. In the last couple of years around 6000 refs in Ontario have left the game due to the constant BS. It probably won't be long before the sport is no longer played with refs. Good job to all of those people that just run their mouths but won't step up and show us how good of a ref they are. The woman interviewed, and all of the rest of the people like her, would obviously be the best refs ever yet for some reason they don't want to help improve the quality of officiating. Seems like such a waste for the game. All of that untapped ref talent. By the way interview lady, it would be interesting if one day someone came to your place of work and tells you that you are cock soup or any of the many other things people say about refs. Refs are human, but they are treated worse that dog crap. Even a ref having a bad day, doesn't make as many mistakes as the players on the field or the fans in the stands. IST you should be ashamed of yourselves for putting her interview in your video. I will be unsubscribing, and I hope many people follow my lead.

stop complaining. dont expect professional performance from non-professional players and officials. I agree with you on the name calling and ref abuse. that loud mouth should not have been given a platform, but interviews are fine and entertaining so long as abusive language directed at players and officials are discouraged before interviewing.
The thing that makes it even funnier is that there are very few women who actually stick with refereeing because they can’t handle the abuse. Most people take up refereeing in their teens, and most girls quit in their teens. Those that continue on rarely do centers and just stick with ARing. I don’t think I’ve seen more than a few female referees on any IST video. I can guarantee you that the one on the interview who dressed up for this game like she is going to the club afterwards would never even consider taking a class yet thinks she knows it all

Ref was inconsistent and clearly should not be refereeing this level the near side AR was worst missing a clear offside and being out of position consistently to include calling balls out while still on the line. It’s a shame because their errors influenced the game in a negative manner
The refs are almost never as bad as any of the comments show. I die every time I hear a player yell I got all ball and they literally got none of it. I think the ref should have brought out cards earlier but these are children posing as adults. The whining, the tantrums, and blaming the refs instead of learning to play better.

strange game. grey had a questionable amount of calls and no-calls go in their favor. both teams were fairly classless. white's fans were insufferable. should have been significantly more cards for some of the dirty shit. all in all, big L for the refs in this one.
