To this day, #11 from blue is going around town showing him the mark from the foul that wasn't punished correctly (easy yellow).
Yellow for the first foul then a red for the stomp. Linesman was useless. Should've helped the ref on that play but he was probably scared for his life.
Easy caution that one at the very least.
@@WrinklyTraveller watch again and run it back a few times. 7:50 yellow card foul happens. 7:52 ish it turns into a red card with the deliberate stomp and running over with first the left foot to the body and then the right foot to his leg. Easy red card if the linesman is worth anything and helps the center ref out and tells him what he saw. Notice that the ball is running away and towards the corner flag. Number 8 in red doesn't go towards the loose ball he continues his path at the attacker laying on the ground and tries to stomp him out. On the initial ball played over the top #8 expects the center back to come over and help. When that doesn't happen he panics and gets caught by the attacker in blue because he was late to react. He was frustrated and decided to hack him down and then go to the dark arts to finish him.
@@tigerwilliams4994 yeah, I understand all that but I wasn’t disagreeing with you. I would’ve sent him off also. I was saying at the very least the ref should’ve given the caution but his AR was very young and easily intimidated. Too scared to tell the ref. We have angry players like this in our comps but not this bad. Our ref association is quite strict with us. We even have Temp Dismissals now for dissent. 10 mins in the sin bin calms them down a bit.
@@tigerwilliams4994 I replayed it a couple of times in slow motion. I disagree that it was an initial yellow, their legs just got intertwined. At least a yellow for the foot stomping, if not a red.

As a referee,when the game is over, we leave immediately.
To protect ourselves and nothing said after the game is going to change the outcome.

Agree. I'm a ref also and I don't hang around if the situation is a bit negative. But a good ref shouldn't allow a game to denigrate into a slug-fest.

Some asked refs to stick around to keep order.
Other leagues had their own security and wanted the refs out of sight.

Blue #11 couldn't finish his dinner. He's shocking. Scored from 3 yards off his shins, but missed about five absolute sitters including two open goals.

I agree it’s wrong but I think the linesman assumes the blue player walking back was involved in the play, which if he was would make it offside, but I don’t think he was anywhere near being involved so. Possibly young linesman, or just inexperienced at the level.

i'm normally on the ref's side, because I think they get too much flack in these already ridiculous leagues, but boy that was some grade F officiating.
To be fair: it's one of those games where you either end up pulling 15+ yellows, or you're just going to not call obvious stuff (his choice), but that step on the blue striker was already a direct yellow, but should've been an obvious red.
There were really poor (non) calls in general (what the heck was that offside call? I'm assuming very young linesmen?) and things just got worse as the game progressed.
Both teams were also really unskilled, so that doesn't help either (lots of late tackles).
Side note: "he got the ball" is not a thing in soccer. It doesn't matter wether you "got the ball" or not. If your play is dangerous, it's a foul.
Players really need to learn that.
The ref needs to be at the play and have better angels, because he was not moving around enough!
Disagree on that being a red. Didn’t see intent. Didn’t stomp on him. Numerous yellow card offences and dives from both teams with nothing done. Ref was one of the worst I’ve ever seen.
Also totally agree with the whole “got the ball” argument. Just cuz you touch the ball doesn’t mean you can go through someone’s legs afterwards.
@@neils19 When you play soccer you do whatever you can to not step on someone, because you KNOW you have studs. It looked very intentional to me, he didn't slow down or change direction at all and didn't even try to step beside him. Doesn't matter that he didn't stomp, that would only have given it away, and obviously what he did was enough to leave a huge mark.

I like this ref, 23:19 you hear him say “good battle….but you lost this one.” Shows respect for the player while controlling the game. Then at the end, when the player is yelling at him, he says come here and talk to me, why are you yelling, just come talk. Very mature and confident.

The ref wasn't even bad, maybe he could have carded a couple of times but other than that, he was fine. Also the stomp, I can see how a ref might interpret it as accidental as the defender was falling also.

Are you blind that ref was the worst ive seen in a long time, multiple yellows, quite a few reds, didnt even spot the foul throw which was embarrassing, here in the UK our 16 year old refs have more sense then he did.

As a referee you make a choice. Give 20 yellow cards and consequently some yellow/reds or leave it a battlefield. Rough game. At the end of the day it’s the players who made this game what it was. Could be much better.

The problem with the ref here is he didn't referee the game that was given to him.
In his mind, he thought was was going to chat his way to match control - manage the players, bring out one or two yellow cards for the key moments. The inexperienced ARs would have been a problem, but a good communicator would overcome.
At 7:49, that approach needed to go out the window. If you see the stomp, you *have* to show red - no question. If you miss it but realize after the fact, you rule with an iron fist for the rest of the match. Call every free kick; give every card; manage nothing. You won't get back much respect from the players on the day, but you'll at least keep them (relatively) safe.
I'm surprised this didn't turn out worse.
This looks like soccer in PE class. The blue team is the actual soccer players, the red team is the non soccer players that think soccer "is easy and is really just kicking a ball."
The red team is Lazy, clumsy, and aggressive. This is how people get hurt.

That kind of ref gets players hurt. Don't call the cheap stuff, it escalates things. Obvious obstruction, cheap shots. When you make that kind of situation, then players feel compelled to respond in kind, or a little bit more. He seemed to look at it from intent only. You need to prevent reckless and dangerous play as well though. There were a few pulldowns which should've been yellow.
