    Beautiful! Thank you so much for sharing. I'm not a Logic user but wow this is impressive! I think one of the main things that makes this sound so convincing is that you know what you're doing! Great arrangements! Love it! I had never seen someone making horns sound so good on RUclips before! This video should be the norm!

    I love RUclips videos that show the power of Logic’s tools. Your example is perfectly acceptable as a demo for an arrangement or as rehearsal tracks for a singer or instrumentalist. It also demonstrates how useful it is for working up arrangements and compositions without having to hire musicians. You can get very close to done just with Logic. With care, finished tracks are very possible. As always, thank you for your great tutorials!

    Great video. I love hearing all the articulations you are using. I played a lot of jazz in college (bass trombone) and it's great to hear those sounds are available in the DAW. You've inspired me to start thinking about writing some jazz charts using Logic. Thanks,

    Very convincing. Surprising how good these stock plugins can be, especially in the hands of a skilled musician. I played trumpet in school band, but if I needed a trumpet line, it is unlikely I would try to play it in myself. My wife would divorce me, for one thing.

    You can think of a doit as sort of like a reverse scoop. Instead of scooping up into the target pitch, you first play the target note, then scoop the pitch higher at the tail. An inverted fall would be another way to conceptualize a doit. Unlike a glissando, there is no targeted pitch at the end of a fall or doit, but for horn players, the intervalic distance is usually about a third. A wavy gliss. is the common notation for a fall or doit that travels further from the starting pitch.

    Thank you for this video, very informative and accurate. I never imagined being able to use trumpets in logic in that way, I have always used third-party plugins, but with this video I just deleted many of them and saved space. Could you make a video about how to use the flute, clarinet, etc as well? There are many people like me on the Internet who would also like to know about these instruments, but there are no people on the Internet with this type of knowledge. It would be of great help to many people, please think about it. Greetings from your new subscriber. Have a nice day!

      Thanks Alex. The articulations on the studio horns are amazing. The only other Logic set that’s similar is the Studio Strings. I’ve done a video on them too. Like you, I use 3rd party libraries for complex articulations for most of my orchestration.

    It's useful if you show the score view as I'm not using Logic. I'm using an orchestral rendering engine and input via score. I have two sections on the left "Articulations" and "Arpeggios and glissandi", looking at the latter menu I see fall and plop are the opposite to doit and scoop respectively. Interesting that you've used marcato in trumpet and bone where you used a straight accent in the sax parts.

    Hello another question that may sound naive for you: I am puzzled to see your midi score with several instruments all together while, in my normal use, I can only select one instrument at time...are you using the grouped horns or just individual scores for each instrument? thanks for your kind explanation.

    • @ImpliedMusic
      @ImpliedMusic  10 месяцев назад +1

      when i shift click to select multiple regions, the edit window displays all of the notes in each track/region. i'm tracking individual horns on individual tracks. You can see that multiple selection happen in this video at 4:55... it goes from one track/region to two, as i shift click to add to my region selection.

    This was amazing. I was having a problem with articulation. who knew you could put a different articulation on each note. It also was important to choose the Studio Instrument the way you did. When I chose from the channel strip instrument menu the articulation option didn't come up. Thank you.

    Nice explanation for not advanced users like myself...I have a small issue running the horns layered preset Hell's kitchen where I can not assign to the trombone the lowest part of the score. The lowest notes of the chords are still played by the Trumpet1 and I can't find the way to have the trombone samples play it. (the tenor sax in the middle seems to work ok)
    Any suggestion?

    • @ImpliedMusic
      @ImpliedMusic  10 месяцев назад

      okay, it does that for me too. since the layered preset is grouped, it's possible to fold open the group, clicking on the track header arrow to see the individual instruments in the patch. (trumpet, sax, trombone) you could then record on those tracks individually, while still getting the processing set up that comes with the patch. i ALWAYS track my horn individually, so that's my best advice. i will say that the ensemble auto-assign settings in studio horns aren't always effective... maybe it's got something to do with that. when i play the hells kitchen with 3 voice chords, i can see the channel for the bone is active, each instrument is playing, assigning itself to the usual spot in its voicing. but if i play a single voice, it really doesn't track instrument register... it's just a trumpet and sax. this may be by design... as i said, i prefer to make these choices myself.

    I still love the flute! But, this was a very fun video, and I have to say, very informative...I am coming to your channel from the classical side (though I love all good music in any genre) and so the brief score view let me understand the voice leading you chose, much better than the piano roll view...I just use Finale and haven't made the transition to DAW just yet, but I have to compliment you on your ear and your overall taste in music...keep them coming!!!...oh, and when you said one live horn to enhance the mix, you didn't mean French Horn did you???

    • @ImpliedMusic

      @ericleiter6179 Год назад

      @ImpliedMusic So you can play on these two, you mean? Have you ever tried to play Mozart's Clarinet Concerto on the basset horn??? I think his ideas for that piece originated on it...he had to keep up with his pupil Sussmayr who was writing one too...and you do you play post horn too? So you would know the Koenig Gallop right?...and again, Mozart. Have you ever tried to play the Posthorn Serenade's 2nd Minuet solo in the second trio section?

      @ImpliedMusic you got me there!!! Well you said you played clarinet, you never know...and I realize that in most Jazz and Pop/Rock 'horn' sections, there isn't a French Horn, and when you say horn in the context of orchestral music, it's always a French Horn, so that's how you got me lol!

  • @ElektronicCricket
    @ElektronicCricket 2 месяца назад +1

    I tried also the horns in logic, these are not bad … but I have to combine these with other horns in the mix. I hope for more articulations in a next logic update , way less presets. About scoring, the best result for creating a score in logic is to quantise al your notes but don’t use that if you’re going to bounce your music. You can save a second file (only quantised), for example: name song_score … this can be helpful to get started and changing settings like you want. So you have the original file without quantisation and 2nd with. That’s the way I should do … I think … there are maybe better solutions out there 😊

    Very interesting, I had never delved into the possibilities of these tools, which are often taken for granted in favor of more expensive libraries. However, in certain contexts, they can be convincing if programmed correctly. A very exciting video.
    I am, however, puzzled by the behavior I encountered in the “Studio Trombone.” If a MIDI part is played with notes programmed in “Fall medium” or “Doit,” they will have a lower volume, even with the same velocity, unless notes with “Expressive medium” have been played first.
    Have you ever come across this? Do you have any idea why it happens?

    • @ImpliedMusic
      @ImpliedMusic  Месяц назад

      that's a new one for me. i'll test it later today.

      @@ImpliedMusic
      I used short notes in “doit” or “fall medium” to simulate a “marcato” (which unfortunately doesn’t exist for trombone 1/2/3), because staccato clearly lacks the sustain afterwards. I “solved” the uneven level by writing “expressive medium” notes before the notes in “doit”/“fall medium” and muting them.
      Let me know if this happens to you too.
