What's your favourite pre-styler?
I really like Label Ms blow out spray! It’s so versatile. I use it to add volume when blow drying. If you’ve got longer hair like mine, you don’t even need to blow dry it. Just a little bit and scrunch it in towel dried hair, tie it back in a man bun and let it just air dry throughout the day. Remove the tie and suddenly you have bigger hair! Love the channel btw Robin - the new cut looks awesome!
I don’t really use any atm. I gotta middle part style and in all honesty I just prefer to let it air dry but I still like watching your vids.
Reuzel orange coloured tonic is pretty good. It adds a little bit of hold as well as being a tonic. Its not strictly a lre styler I suppose but I find it works well. It also has heat protection if you're into that sort of thing. Ive zero time for blow drying usually so I don't know about that but styling with clay afterwards is always really easy.
Label M thickening tonic only one I’ve ever used because it works so great!
So looking forward to this series!!! Robin i feel like you never talk about ppl with thicker medium-long hair. Could you please also do suggestions for us with thick hair please?
I got thick medium length hair and im going for texture but need a long strong hold to manage my thick hair. Do you think a sea salt spray with night rider will do the job? What would you suggest for a finisher/sealer? To maximize the hold
Look'in good Robin!! Great vid - hope life is treating you well!
I am not even joking....
MFH should be a brand more known throughout the world
You give us such great product reviews, breakdowns, how to's and etc
Robin, you are the David Beckham of YT. Thank you!
Also, love your shirt, where'd you get it?
I have very thin hair and thanks to your videos I gained the confidence to play with my hair and find the products I like. Thanks Robin!
Thank you for these videos, I have a husband who went bald at 18 and 2 boys who are now very interested in having nicely styled hair. I have absolutely no idea how to achieve the same finish they get from the barbers so this series of videos will be absolutely invaluable to me!
You helped me so much over the years, it's unbelievable. Thank you very much!
Ah, this is great. Thank you.
Aveda Thickening Tonic has been my go to for years thanks to you, but I usually combine it with either Cornerstone or Lockhart’s Anti Gravity when prestyling to help the hold last all day.
You are godsent!!! Really learned a lot!!!
I have this thin asian hair with a difficulty in achieving height, so mousse it is!
Hello robin. Firstly I absolutely love your helpful videos, makes things so much easier and my hair hasn't been this good and soft ever. Secondly I'm looking at growing my hair out partly inspired by your hair growth and secondly not being able to get a haircut. But I was wondering what would be a good hair dryer that won't damage my hair too much and would it be best to use a heat protector before too, preferably paraffin and sulfate free? Thank you.
Thank you kindly sir for all the advice.
I have thick hair and everydsy I wer my hair so I can have a middle part but I don’t put any products. What should I use as a pre-styler?
Your video was helpful❤
Hey man new hairs looking great thanks for reccomending these I have really thick coarse wavy hair saved me money again! also helped me out loads with a skincare routine and new hairs looking great im rocking something similar! just wondering if we could see how a traditional pomp would look with this cut! I've been doing it but using pomade but letting it go messy and its a cool look might be worth trying!
Very helpful information, thank you. When are you going to start the Brand Battles again?
Nice work man ❤
great review Robin!
Would love to watch a Cornerstone review.
Also, please consider testing Pankhurst London thickening shampoo,R+Co Cactus,Bumble and bumble surf foam wash, Grown Alchemist volumizing shampoo and the salon guy volume shampoo.
You have helped not only me but a lot of us with hair issues. Thank you so much for all your information. My hair is thin and a lot of it so if i have to choose between aveda thicking tonic or nioxin diaboost. Please help.
Can you use multiple pre-stylers at the same time? such as primers and mousses together in the hair?
would you recommend mixing pre-stylers? I currently use the Sachajuan Ocean Mist , but wonder if I should also use a primer?
Aveda Thickening vs. Diaboost? Which one do you use more & why?
What do you think about American Crew Alternator used as a thickening spray? Hairs thin to thinning. Thanks!
What would you say is better to mix with Aveda Thickening Tonic, SACHAJUAN Ocean Mist or Aveda Texture Tonic
@Robin James, please suggest a descent hair clay for a clay use beginner. Love from India.
What would you recommend for someone with thick hair and some waive to it? I’ve tried the sacha juan but not big on the dried out look. I usually style my hair up kinda like Beckham right now.
Ive always used nioxin 3d diamax thickener, which you showed off as well. Its a bit pricy, but it's the one that felt the most natural on my hair. Others seemed to add almost a "gritty" texture when i run my hands through. Given that info, are there any others you would suggest i try out?
And dont get me wrong, im happy with nioxin, im just curious about other products to see if im getting the best
if I use a leave-in conditioner (Cantu Acai Berry Revitalizing) when would I use a Nioxin thickening spray as my pre-styler? After the leave-in conditioner has air dryed a bit I assume right? I have very thin, coarse, frizzy hair so I avoid heat and focus on improving the smoothness of my hair. (sorry for the long question)
Yes, you're right. Once it's dried down a bit. If it's wet, it won't work too well.
Does it work layering the pre-stylers like texture and a thickening spray or better one or the other?
These are incredible I just wish I knew what kind of hair I have! It's wavy but I have no idea about the rest and I can't figure out what to use product wise. 🤦♂️
Robin, what are your thoughts on the Bumble and bumble Grooming Crème? I see it in this video but you don’t cover it- who is this product good for?
What do you think would work best for someone try good morning to get a nice 50’s/60’s pomp style? Pomade is the styler I use, but what about pre style?
Still not sure if I should use a volume mousse og hair thickening spray, i had better results with mousse (Oribe Grandiose)
What products snd tools to make straight hair become wavy?
Do I have to blow dry after using pre styler or can I air dry? Also can I apply pre styler to dry hair, like a spray, and then use my hair clay?
I have fine soft hair.... Should i go for texture or thickening ????
After using a few Aveda Pre-Stylers .... I Like their Volumizing Tonic the best
Love Aveda!
Looking back at this video, I'm curious if you'd have a recommendation for an anti-frizz option that doubles as a thickening solution? I love Aveda's Thickening Tonic, but I find I have a lot of fly-aways when using it. It really dries my hair out.
I have thin hair should I use Mousse with dry or damp hair ? Could I also let it dry without blow drier and then comb it again once it's dried to increase volumen ?
Im asian and have very dull hair, it’s coarse and thick, and gets frizzy. Im looking to add a messy look but keep hydration. i bought a texturizing clay and was wondering which pre-styler should i use?
Is it OK to use two pre-styler’s plus a hair powder? Thickening and Texture then hairpowder or is that too much?
Cool, this is what I'm looking for a guide to men hair and what products to use.
I'm just going to note all this down in my notebook so I can have a clear result.
Is a primer basically a repackaged way to just say hair spray? Because every time I try it on it feels sticky as if I am putting a regular high volume finesse hair spray.
Can u do a hairstyle without using a blowdryer?
Excuse me... You said one of your videos that using hair dryer hot mode can damage my hair and lead to breakage and scalp damage... Okay, I did that mistakenly and used hair dryer for first time as a beginner with highest heat n did once again after 1hour and after that felt heat in my head and was paining, Will I get baldness?
i realize this video is a bit old at this point but i'm just left wondering....if my hair is lacking any texture but is also very fine and quite flat (although dense) ....do i want to go for a texturing or thickening pre-styler..... ? As someone who currently is growing his hair out from a skin fade (currently just a couple of inches long....only been growing it out for 2-3 months)...
can we only do pre-styling and like don't do styling
My favourite pre-styler is BY VILAIN original Sidekick
Glad you've found a favourite!
Label m matte paste works great as a pre-styler
Great video
Thank you
Great type of content! However, it would be great if you could mention curly hair as well in your video's!
Definitely gonna need to get some thickening stuff for my hair. Only just started to style my hair after never really bothering and still trying to find what works best for me. I've always know I've had fine hair but since I started styling I've really noticed it. What do you recommend as a first time buyer? And thanks for all that you do, been a massive help Robin.
What did you end up buying?
Review Davines!!
I have very thin hair with no life in it, can i use both hair thickening spray and a mousse for thickening and volume? If yes which one to use first?
You can, for sure, but a mousse that does both (Bumble and bumble Full Form) should help.
Starts at 3:15 Good video 👍🏽
Best RUclipsr 😍
Thanks Marco!
Great video Robin!
But i have a question, what type of face shape do you have? :0
Oval
I have soft, fine and wavy hair. What prestyler and hair styling product should I use? Also what should I use between a normal comb, a wide tooth comb and a brush?
I've got something coming up to help you. Keep an eye on the MFH newsletter: manforhimself.com/man-for-himself-newsletter/
@@ManForHimself Thanks.
Great video. But what about hold into pre-styler?
No hold. You get that in styling.
@@ManForHimself thanks for your advice. I would get the hold into post styling tine. When will you do the video about that?
Hi Robin! Answer please, can I mix different pre-stylers? For example I want to use thickening tonic to, how you sad, boost the hair, but l want use mousse for volume too. Will products work? Doesn’t it damage my hair? Thank you!
You could but it might get a bit messy. I'd find a mousse that does it all. The Bumble and bumble Full Form one is great for the that.
@@ManForHimself thank you very much!
I have thick, oily, normal textured hair and I've found a volumizing mousse from TRESemme does wonders to make it look bouncy and healthy. My hair has a lot of volume but itself but I'm trying to grow it out so the sheer weight of the strands tend to keep it down.
Speaking of, what sort of pre-styler might be good for someone of my hair type who's looking to grow it past the ear?
Can you use more than one at a time?
Yes, you can. I'd try and keep it to a minimum but layering 2 can really work.
I specifically need a pre-styler for texture and hydration, so a sea salt spray probably wouldn't work very well for my really thick, super dry hair. I can't afford to be buying stuff from brands like Aveda and Bumble & Bumble though. Those brands are way too freaking expensive for me.
Wow, so my hair is dry, frizzy, fine, and flat, so it basically needs all of these pre-stylers. 🤯🤯
Shampoo and Conditioners for people who wash their hair every day, sometimes twice a day?
Will get into my video!
My hair is basically see through 🙈 putting color looks so weird 😩 essentially it always looks a mess.
Is it grey?
@@ManForHimself partially.. I used to be fair red. Now it is partially grey but those that are not grey look like caramel blond. My hair is very thin and well kind of transparent... Really weird... Bit like Einstein but different color. I kinda like it but 🙈 basically it just looks like a mess if it is longer .. but short hair is not nice 😟
man that mustache era of yours was special
Thanks!
What is thickening spray? Why it is used ? What is hair serum? Can hair serum protects from heat ? Does any of this product harms your hair?
Thank you for listening or reading ☺️ this comment.
Now if Robin stands by his sponsor....I’m sure that product will work 😂😎
It's about finding what works for you. For sure!
@@ManForHimself cantttt believe u replied big bro....lots of love❤️❤️❤️
why is there no sea salt sprays here,,,,Isnt that a pre styler ?
Well scraic
I'm good. How are you?
I’m grand
I heard by vilain sidekick is your favourite
oh, you heard wrong!
My life goal is to bump into you during a street style video in London. 🙏😂
You look like Louis Tomlinson
Thanks
Hello Robin.... it’s me again. Sometime ago you made a rather brash statement Robin.... you said that Oil based pomades or “grease” is outdated and there’s more modern ways to get the same results. Well Robin some of us don’t have thinning hair some of us have thick full curly hair and that alone doesn’t mean I can’t find products that can hold my hair... but I sweat Robin I sweat a lot. So you see Robin a water based product it just breaks down. And I don’t like the dull matte look of other products I personally like to have a high shine restylable product.... now to me that sounds like an oil based pomade but if you have a better alternative by all means back up your statements 😡😡😡
P.S. Oil based pomades don’t even need a prestyler.
Hey guys,
I've been using a sea salt spray for a while now and I love the texture. Since I love it so much, I feel like it's worth the investment to get a more premium product. However, I've heard that sea salt sprays may have detrimental long-term drying effects on the hair. I really want to make sure that my hair is healthy and would be willing to sacrifice a little in texture to ensure that. I am wondering which pre-styler would be better, the ocean mist or the texturing tonic. Robin preaches how much he loves the ocean mist but I am hesitant about drying out the hair. Does the Aveda Texturing Tonic offer comparable while being better for the hair?
Thanks so much for the help!
