dude your work rate is insane, you have to sleep sometimes ! great work !.
I really like where the channel is at right now. It became more technical and its consumable by non-gaming computer users. I haven't played any video game in 5 years and I still find a lot of value here. Dueling ARM/ARM64 and Low powered X86_64 chips , the latest devices, if I see a chip can game here I know I am good for what I want to do. The regimented routine of the video allows you to really notice the differences in each board and not just advertise them like some creators. However you do it buying or getting sponsored I just hope new items keep rolling in at this pace. I like to find older things and optimize them but when I do buy something the last stop is 2 channels here and Explaining Computers. If I were you I would be mad too, but I would have installed Debian in the first place. How are they going to ship an OS without driver support ? Your saying 'Toy box' came on there , I think they pushed these things out while people are buying still and worrying about firmware later. They flashed something that booted and ran to move units now.
Thumbs up for ETA, thumbs down for rock pi. If he is frustrated, who is much better with computers than i, then I would probably just get mad and break it.. :>]
More rk3399 potential... Really want this to preform well and it can... but it just isn't there, once again.
Two things I hope are on your radar: hacking wii to run emulation (did this and it's very nice) and the "theC64" 'maxi.' It is not released to the US yet but comes with support for US power, displays and peripherals.
Thanks for reviewing a great product. I think the board, especially the form factor, has a lot going for it.
From what I can tell, the NPU takes up 1 gig of memory, so that would explain your readout. Linuxgizmos has a nice write up and they mention that the board use the "Vamrs’ SMARC form-factor VMARC RK3399Pro SoM compute module", which is cool because the the cpu/gpu/ram are modular. Of interest, is that the Vamr store sells an soc called the "Rockchip Toybrick", so that might explain the seemingly out of place logo.
I'm hoping that the next Odroid N2 "borrows" some of the features.
Really looking forward to a successor to the RK3399 based SBCs. Feels like this form factor has so much potential, but has been stagnant wrt performance for about a year now...
We may see some rk3588 based boards by the end of the year. It is set to release early q1
The memory leak at 4:14 works great and is really fast!
I think the rockpi 4 is the best rk3399 sbc, and my opinion of the rk3399 has improved a bit, the raspberry pi 4 is six months old and there still are no vc6 graphics drivers, the raspberry pi 4 only works a bit better than a pi 3b+.
I have had two pi4 die with hdmi issues, I have a replacement for the one, which I am reluctant to use it until I know software really works, I will stick to my pi 3b+ and my amd Ryzen pcs.
This one has so much potential. May be there will be some updates for it.
Purchased the Radxa Rock Pi 4 over a year ago because of its impressive hardware specs & M.2 NVMe. But, it required an expansion board, which was longer than the Pi standard. So, it wouldn't fit inside a standard case and Radxa didn't have one.
The OS development was primarily dependant upon Radxa's voluntary forum enthusiasts, so issues were resolved based upon their priorities (no criticisms of their helpful efforts). This is the perfect place for bored Linux heads and developers, but not for Makers who want to accomplish goals with the minimum hassle. IOW, the hardware is totally dependent upon the software support and drivers. Video playback on the RK3399 wasn't acceptable, so I moved on to the Khadas EDGE-V (RK3399🤪).
Khadas has much more mature products, but the EDGE-V had a display issue and was 'lost in shipping' during the return (another $150 wasted on an RK3399 SBC). My RockPi 4B is collecting dust on the shelf while I'm building 3 projects with CM3+ modules, RPi 3A, & NVidia Xavier NX.
"Once burned, twice shy." Radxa and RK3399, never again.💨
I would pay $200 for a single board computer with the Snapdragon 855.
That wouldn't even cover the cost of the chip, but I do agree with wanting a Snapdragon 855 SBC.
@@ezg8448 they were selling whole Chinese phones for like 350 with a Snapdragon 855. They jumped up a hundred bucks when they upgraded models to 855 plus.
@@ezg8448 you can have realme x2 pro with 855+
Is it worth it to upgrade the size of the internal memory on these SBCs to more than 16gb if we are just running it for emulation?
I really like the idea of turning a old pc into Android. My two problems are HDMI cable. 1. Android doesn't select HDMI audio I see it in terminal as 2nd option, how do I pick it? 2. Trying to boot Android only allows forced to choose 1024x768 resolution and doesn't scale right on 1920x1080p TV?
This could explain the assumed RAM leak?
...the Rock Pi N10 has a maximum RAM allotment beyond the RK3399’s 4GB limit so it can feed the NPU. Three models are available:
Model A - 4GB LPDDR3 (3GB for CPU, 1GB for NPU); 16GB eMMC
Model B - 6GB LPDDR3 (4GB for CPU, 2GB for NPU); 32GB eMMC
Model C - 8GB LPDDR3 (4GB for CPU, 4GB for NPU); 64GB eMMC
Great content. Will you do a video with your favourite single board computer of 2019, like you did for 2018?
is it claiming 3gb because maybe 1gb is going to the igpu?
I'd like to see a test of the orange pi 4
Want are the benefits of Vulkan?
Would really like to see a review of the Capcom Home Arcade. But as always thanks for the vids!
I was just looking at this board the other day. Was thinking about this for a NAS with an adapter for M.2 to Sata
This seems like it's more geared towards building out convnets for image processing and object detection. Would be great for a deep learning project.
May it be possible to run GameCube or Wii on this device??
I've ordered the 8G model & paid for it the beginning of December. They say that there are some production issue's on the higher ram version & as of yet I'm still waiting for mine to be sent. 12/01/2020
Thanks for that. I'm on their email notification list for the 8GB, as they are out of stock. Would you let us know when it is delivered?
Ok
@@gerardvirgona5541 Thank you. Much appreciated.
Thought I'd let you know tonight got a email response to my asking them when? A rude reply saying that they had sold far more than there supplier could supply & they didn't know when they would get around to mine. I responded that it wasn't good enough answer & they shouldn't have sold a product they couldn't supply. I also asked have any been sent, when, in what order & commented on how they have bad business practices. 3 minutes later I get a email saying that they started sending them on the 20th of January & mine will be sent by the 1st of February. I'll let you know if I get it.
@@gerardvirgona5541 Thanks for the update. I'm sure you'll get it. It's just far later than you were originally expecting. Thanks for the update, again.
What are your thoughts of the Beelink GT pro?
Why don't they just start using LPDDR4X? Would be a huge upgrade.
😁😁😁👍👍👍
From what I've been reading about that board its a custom carrier board for someone else's module and the missing ram is tasked to the npu chip hope this info helps you .
Great board! But why is there a screw missing?
Rockchip really needs to work on software compatibility if they want anyone to use their chips. Users need a proper hardware decoder (not some proprietary junk which needs extra effort to integrate), drivers for OpenGL and Vulkan. And on normal Linux, not just on Android.
@4:06: The remaining 1 GB of RAM is probably allocated to the GPU.
So they downgraded from ddr4 to ddr3? But why? 0.o
"Defiantly" no.
You probably mean 'definitely'. Or, who are you defying?
@@MarkTheMorose I'm defying the show notes.
Now I don't feel so bad I was going to open a discussion and ask on the forums why is there a screw missing on the heat sink? However it seems I am not the only one. I finally got my USB Male to Male cable so I was going to flash ubuntu onto the built in but it seems the flash loader linked on their web site is not available (404 on the link) so I'll open a discussion about that. I don't really think they expected much interest in the N10 because the only value is the NPU.
I believe the SOC (GPU, CPU) is a separate chip on the SODIMM from the NPU. Can't find any images of it without the heat sink on currently
Ask as many questions as you can, this happens way too often with these new boards.
well can't wait to see if you get emulation working on this
Sir Can we installed any linux operating system in this sbc....
Ok thanks for the info...
Not 'any' Linux OS. Only ones designed for RK3399 ARM CPUs. So no Linux Mint, for example.
@@MarkTheMorose Mint is mostly just a desktop on top of regular Ubuntu. A quick google search shows there are ARM packages available which you can install.
@@pilabs3206 A board for AI with Android as stock OS ?
I have a pretty low end PC with
Cpu: i5 660 3.33ghz
Gpu : Intel integrated graphics
RAM : 2 Gbs on Windows 10
Just gonna ask why can't it run GameCube emulation is the problem in RAM or Cpu ?
You need a better graphic card and a bit more ram
@@louisayotte9933 but isn't emulation done on the cpu
@@Criotics System Requirements
Dolphin makes use of two processors if present!
Windows XP or higher, or Linux, or MacOSX Intel.
Fast CPU with SSE2.
GPU with Pixel Shader 2.0 or greater. Some integrated graphics chips work but it depends on the model (and only with DirectX 9).
A quick glance on posts on forums around the internet indicate that getting a decent dedicated video card over the intergrated one, will help a lot more than upgrading the cpu.
If you do not want to invest in a new computer as upgrading yours might not be possible/not make sense, some affordable single board computers these days have pretty good gamecube emulation performance.
That doesn't make any sense, I have lower specs and I can run Dolphin without problems. Try running an older version of Dolphin using DirectX instead of OpenGL, it should run just fine.
Most satisfying words hey guys this is eta prime 🤤🤤
Wasn't there going to be an x86 version of one these.
Is it model a or model n
There is a typo on the description
Neural Processors are going to be a THING not long from now. Many of these SBC makers are adding them into the mix. Not sure what I would do with one ? What could One Do with them of practical purposes ?
Image recognition and improving quality of videos with AI upscaling.
I know its $99 (no idea why toybrick's is 299 tho) but those antutu numbers are snapdragon 636-tier, a 2-3yo chip. Kind of a disappointment, and no way it could do PS2 emulation, even GC(dolphin) would be a stretch.
This board needs a newer version of Android ported to it. Unfortunately rhe RK3399 is not very good for games and emulation going by past reviews which invalidates it for me as a product.
Can you try a USB audio card?
Wish the rk3588 would drop already
Early look? At 11???
Any news about retro pi on the pi 4?
I saw on reddit that there are nightly builds uploaded somewhere, but they are untested.
Hope for serious linux support, in the mainline I mean. Otherwise all power of these boards will be mostly unusable
It's just another chinese sbc where hardware makers pushing for sale, and the software is left to it's own destiny. When it's finally becomes half stable the board is dead. avoid these makers if you're smart.
Looks like jetson nano :3
Looks like the Jetson Nano.
Why the heck would u want 8 gigs of ram on this petty thing? 4 gig rpi4 is 60$, audio is working and wifi + bt integrated, 2 usb3. This radxa board is a no-go
Late night prime
Mid-afternoon prime in Australia
Early morning prime in central Europe
6 core cpu have issues with android games . Even some hexa core cpunused by Samsung have issues in gaming , talking about dated ones
será que ele consegue roda emulador pcsx2
Sounds like you got Shanghai'd brozay
Nice formfactor, but it sounds outdate.
Sorry but the UDOO RYZEN Bolt V1000 beats this board.
Nicee
I see a market for this, however i am not part of that market and will likely not buy one
Its only $99, dude.
🙂👏
3:13 dejavu?
Hmmm... interesting.
RK3399 is not powerful for multitasking
No built-in WiFi in 2020. I’m out.
Let's just hope Linux work better
stop adding background music. Its annoying and makes me stop watching.
Not a new sbc shame ddr3 lol
Wow, old Android release, poor performance, no NPU support... That's bad. No thanks.
odroid looks better
Ubuntu Serverrrrrrrrr cmonnnnnnn all the other Ubuntu Server videos on YT are trash
Not worth it at all.
No vulkan support, no audio, no wifi, dont bother
Ugggggg rockchip lol
