The ending of destroying magic always confused me honestly. The pony head's for instance literally can't exist without magic, and yet after magic was destroyed they were alive and well. many of the magical creatures were (after the portal exploded) just flying around. So it seems weird to me that the ones made out of pure magic also didn't survive.

@@chaosdirge4906 destroying the magic was stupid. Like you said a lot of magical creatures still existed and clearly had magic. But also it’s a lot of problems getting rid of all magic. Just kill Mina with the Spell That Has No Name.
Throw the wand into the magic dimension so no one can use that again. But keep the magic so people don’t die. We don’t like the magical high commission but Omnitraxus is like some kind of guardian of space time! What happens to the multiverse if he’s dead?
If it were me, just disband the commission, create a new council with representatives from each kingdom, tell the kingdoms of Eclipsa’s TRUE story, and then get rid of the wand like I said before. 2 kingdoms would live beside each other, Mewman and Monster. No displacement of either. Globgor and Eclipsa will represent 2 peoples coming together. You can’t force people to like each other but hope future generations can move forward together, letting go of the past.

Just another reason for why having a basic roadmap for your story is very important for your story. Considering that the whole thing with the monsters is just a big on the nose metaphor for racism and bigotry, it felt way too close and personal for the show to take it as lightly as it did. It almost felt like the Commission's blatant racism was played for comedy and the fact that these characters were let off the hook so easily was insulting and infuriating. I like Heckapoo's design but jesus she's such an unlikeable character. Throughout the series she seemed so smug and holier than thou, way too quick to pass judgement onto others when she herself was such a horrible person.

I feel like things with the MHC could have been better if it was made clear that they don't necessarily have an issue with monsters in general (maybe not necessarily love them, but kind of have a "you don't bother us, we don't bother you" and/or only go against them if they felt it was necessary to help the Mewmans, which is what they were made for), but specifically had a problem with Eclipsa's monster family. Because it's not like they would have no reason to worry about what could happen with a monster having access to the magic of the Butterflies. They would have no idea what Meteora's abilities would be like, since she's presumably the first of her kind, and there would be the fear that not only would Globgor relapse, but he could potentially have a very powerful and dangerous ally in the form of his daughter, who for all anyone knew, he could have been training to destroy Mewmans and be like him when he was (as far as we're shown) happily killing and eating people. Still wouldn't justify them taking Meteora from her parents, but it would make it more understandable why they would be so against Meteora even potentially having access to the wand.

She is supposed to be someone who takes no crap and cares more about the moral values of a person than their fame or societal standing. So her trying to test Eclipsa to see her true nature would not only make sense, it would have been more compelling. Rhombulus could have been redeemed if the writers gave a scene of him being mad at Omni and HP for making him take all the blame for releasing globgore. Think about it: you could argue that if rom represents childhood he acts like a child, he's easily manipulated like a child, if we had one moment of Rom question everything the other MHC told him and them once again treating him like a child and ignoring his opinions and questions. They made him put innocent people in dangerous and guess what? Globgore may have been good but keeping the people safe is his job. Let him have a heart to heart with star!! She's objectively closest with him, she showed him that following his gut and biases can be wrong and that you can hurt innocent people making assumptions and look at what he'd help do, he ripped a baby away from a mother and help keep the secret.
Hes supposed to keep the innocent people safe, shouldn't he have a reaction to finding out that he locked away a selfish but still innocent woman and had her very innocent baby be raised in an abusive house? And that doing so caused something bad to happen because of his assumptions???
The final season was hammering in that the children of monsters and mewmans are the futures hope, so wouldn't it have made the most sense for Romulus, the representation of childhood, be the one of the MHC to help shape the future for the better and help correct the wrongs made generations before.
He's the one who changed his ways in his own introduction episode, he's the one that shared the secret of eclipsa's daughter, he's the one who's in charge of keeping people safe, HE SHOULD HAVE BEEN THE ONE TO REALIZE THAT WHAT THEY DID WAS WRONG.
he should have been the one that had a change of heart because he out of all of them showed he was willing to change and see to reason when shown that what he's been doing is wrong.

You know. I honeslty belive a big part of the reaosn Heckapoo is treated the way she is and her own flaws and bad choices and actions are overlooked or glossed over even by critics is simple.
Heckapoo is arguablly THE most popular girl in the shows fandom. If you look up Star vs fan art chances are your going to find a TON of Heckapoo art. Both...Safe and not so safe for work. The fandom adored her cause of her interactions with Marco in her dimesion and how they oozed a certain kind of tenshion that people love. People adored her and still do to this day. That's why people gave hr a free pass. they liked her alot and ignored her problems.
The thing is, the show did the same thing, mainly beacue of Daron and how obessed she was with her fandom. Daron was very, VERY involved and aware of her fandom and the fanbase and loved it all. This is important as I think that meant she wasn't willing to go against it for the sake of a good story or a proper one.
You can see this exact thing play out with Eclipsa. Why was she constnatly hinted at to be evil till the last moment when it was obvious she was not? Cause the fanbase loved it.
Why was tofee NEVER properly explained? Cause the idea of what he COULD be was very popular in the fandom and Daron didnt want to take that mystery away.
Why was Moon suddenly made a villain out of nowhere then basically immeadtly forgiven? Cause she was the ONLY major character that COULD of been used that way. But it was probibly suppoused to be eclipsa orignally.
With that in mind is it really any surpise Heckapoo is treated like she is?

Sounds like she just didn't want to write her own story, so it was easier to pull in suckers by dangling "mystery bait" like carrots on a stick. There were rumors on some threads that she was mostly writing that "Season 3.5" supplementary spellbook instead of Seasons 3-4, leaving the latter two in the hands of new junior writers and episode directors. Perhaps that Season 3 finale of Star's short, failed queenship was a metaphor for her craetor being a show-runner, an inability to handle that creative control, and wanting others to lead instead.

I don't know how there was ever a discussion about Hekapoo being good or the lesser evil of the MHC.
People liked her character for a multitude of reasons. From her design to her attitude. To her being fun ship bait for marco. Marco wasn't any good either. In terms of relationships he's a mess that had no improvement on himself being good for any of the girls (Jackie, Hekapoo, Kelly or Star)he dated. Examples: Jackie; he neglected his girlfriend and obsessed over helping save Mewni.
Hekapoo; she had more of a physical attraction to him but cared for him as she enjoyed being with 15 year old Marco as well. But Marco lied to Hekapoo about Star's sleep portals just so he could keep adventureing with Hekapoo.
Kelly; started dating because he loved Star and couldn't cope with those feelings(this was their reason for dating) and when the Blood Moon curse was broken Marco's reason for dating Kelly vanished along with his feelings. Star; she is the same as Marco. Neither of them had any real character development that made them getting together natural. But, I guess by those standards of similar flaws, they're made for each other.
There should've been more character development among the main characters just like the supporting characters(like Tom, Kelly, Jackie ECT.). Instead the plot and character development was sidelined by shipping drama.
My original point is that Hekapoo isn't good, but by having her make up for her involvement in Mina's attempt at monster genocide she saves Moon, Eclipsa, Star and Marco as if that was enough(but the ending was rushed anyway for any attempt at redemption felt forced.)

My biggest question ever since this whole racism narrative started regarding the MHC is, WHY do *THEY* hate monsters so much?
I mean, I get why the mewmens would hate them, even though the show acts like it's for no reason, I'd say the reason is pretty obvious. With how monsters look and act to a degree like predators, being big, with sharp teeth and claws, and wings, and spikes, and all sorts of natural weapons that could easily be used against the frail, squishy humans (with no natural defenses) that became mewmens, how else were they supposed to feel about such foreign, dangerous looking creatures? At least, that's first impressions, however, monsters like Globgore prove that at least some of those impressions were justified to some degree, because I sincerely doubt that he's the only monster in all of mewmen history to have ever eaten any, so yeah, I can understand their fear and prejudice.
The show doesn't seem to however.
But the MHC, I don't get. I don't get their favoritism towards mewmens, as it doesn't really seem like anything Gosserick encouraged, moreso just went along with, and they seem to have been around for a *long time,* possibly longer than mewmens have existed, so they must've been somewhat familiar with how monsters really are to some degree, right?
So why do they hate monsters, and favor mewmens over literally ANYONE ELSE in the entire multiverse??? What reason do they have to be so bigoted? Why the hatred, the prejudice, the blind accusations? Why do they feel this way, when they're supposed to be very powerful, semi-all-knowing demigods? Could they have a reason why they feel the way they do about monsters? The show acts like they don't.
Like they hate them just cause. And that's it. And they make them out to be very childish about it too! Like, they don't want to explain themselves, because "I don't wanna!", like that's basically how it seems.
Like, I dunno, maybe they just didn't want to "give a platform to hateful ideas" or something, but the truth is, people like this have reasons why they are the way they are, and acting like they don't, doesn't make the problem go away, it makes it worse, because then they feel slandered, ignored, unheard and justified. They turned the MHC into one-note strawmen, and that was a very bad move on the writers part.
Overall, this was a show with potential, but it ended up being a massive mess, with a half-hearted, half-baked message that was completely butchered and fumbled all the way through.
Also, I'd like to mention in this side note that when people talk about all the magical beings that Star killed when she destroyed magic, people always tend to forget the residents of the wand: the spells.
You know, the spells, like Spider-with-a-Tophat, that we spent *two WHOLE* episodes getting to know, and who weren't even necessary, because they were going to die by the end anyway??
    Like the narwhal-butterfly baby.
    That baby has no future.
    Star killed a baby, people.
That is not something the writers can bs their way through like with the puppies, those beings were pure magic, and she killed a baby.
Heck, even if they were somehow *not* killed, they'd still be homeless, as how could they live in a dead wand? How were those new parents supposed to raise a baby in a DEAD WAND WITH NO MAGIC????
Literally, WHY were we even introduced to these characters in the first place if they didn't matter and were going to be killed off with little thought or regard BY THE MAIN CHARACTER HERSELF????
Ok, sorry for the long rant, but gosh, I had a lot to say.
This show was such a disappointment.

      @leirawhitehart1236 2 года назад +12

@Fuzzy trainwreck well thanks for that, but gosh, what more could I say about it that hadn't already been said?
They threw in a racism plot without thinking things through, and it ended up being just a mess...
Overall imo, I think that Star vs. Had the same problem as Steven Universe, in that, the show runners had no idea where they were going with their story, and made it up as they went along, and personally, I think that format is fine for an episodic show with loose cannon, but for a serialized show, that's supposed to have world building, lore, and an ongoing narrative, I think it's proven that that type of loose creation process can lead to disaster.
If you want to tell a connected story, with lore and character growth in mind, I think it's best to have a skeleton of your story first, with clear beginning and end points before you even draw the first storyboard, and flesh out your idea further as you go along. That way, you know where your characters are heading, both in terms of goal and growth, and you can better keep track of your lore, message, and story progress, to make sure you don't contradict yourself.
I believe this show had a continuity tracker that was either fired or left at some point during season four, and I've heard that things really started going downhill after they left, because now there was nothing to hold the story together.
This was a massive mistake, as if there's one thing longtime fans hate, it's inconsistencies. Not having a consistent story can very clearly damage your show, as proven by both SvtfoE and SU. Both shows had extremely unsatisfying endings, because the writers didn't really seem to know where to go with their stories, or how to end them, and that was a mistake.
And I think at this point I'm just repeating myself, so I guess I've said all I need to say.
      Huh, guess I had more to add than I thought. ^^;

@Fuzzy trainwreck yeah, some minor contradictions here and there aren't too much to worry about, as they can happen every now and then, but when it gets to the point of impacting the world and characters to where it doesn't make sense anymore, and you've written yourself into a corner, then yeah, that's a real problem.
My point still stands, that having a good idea of how you want your story to end before it begins would help prevent this problem.
Also, yeah, Tom was done dirty.

Thing is I didn't mind the reveal that a lot of Mewni's problem sprung from their own bigotry, but it never really held these guys accountable. It never called out how their actions made the kingdom worse and only created enemies against Mewni including Heinous who would go on to become a potential threat to ALL dimensions. Star was the only one who really knew that they were full of shit but no one ever DID anything about them and even their deaths, while deserved, feel unsatisfactory because they spent so much of their time partying about a coup/genocide they helped start and then they're dead. No confrontations, no calling them out, we don't even get the catharsis of watching them realize they were about to die. Even Hekapoo's assistance was half-assed, content to get drunk and leave it to Star to actually DO something, not even offering to let Dimensional Travel work so Star could recruit allies who WOULD have helped her stop Mina. Tom is the Prince of the Underworld and they know several other royals all with armies who could have taken down the Solarians. But instead the plot just railroads itself into magic being the problem and not the bigoted meddling of the Magical High Commission of Assholes.

    • @Nameless82284
      @Nameless82284 Год назад +1

If you aren't loyal then you are a monster. You know I have a cartoon and it at least explains what counts as a monster or not. Let's see here, how about a vampire, if a vampire is killing people, sucking them dry, and causing problems, then that's a monster. If a vampire is just living their lives as a normal person would and is working or going to school, not hurting anyone, and paying for their food (or in this case blood) then they don't count as a monster. It doesn't matter if two creatures are the same species, if one acts feral then they are monsters, if one is sentient then they are not monsters.

I been knew she wasn't a good person with the way she was introduced. She's not a straight up villain but she wasn't necessarily a good person either. She took a child and dumped him in a strange dimension to hopelessly chase after her for years on end for her own amusement really. Technically when he went back home it'd be like he hadn't aged a day so she was probably thinking no real harm was done, but to him he grew up alone without having contact with his friends and family. He spent years not being able to speak to or hug his mom and dad. That's messed up. Even then I had hoped that she'd be a more open minded member of the council. She seemed to be the young adult of the group mentally and personality wise so I hoped that she'd be the one who was willing to change things or be open to working with the monsters. When the rest of the council talked about how much they detested monsters and how they knew Eclipsa was up to no good I wish she had been the open minded one saying Eclipsa isn't so bad and like Star questioned once asking what makes the non human royals and even them for that matter so different from monsters, but just like her siblings she was a huge bigot with no willingness to change and that disappointed me.

The Tavern at the End at the Multiverse episode was trying to make Hekapoo look as if she was doing a heroic deed by having the gang stay in a safe place. This is ignoring the fact that she and the rest of the MHC gave Mina the okay to attack and overthrow Eclipsa in the first place (she was only concerned with Mina being crazy and not following their plan, not the actual safety of the Mewmans. If she was concerned for the Mewmans, she would've used them as a reason as to why she didn't think Mina could do the job properly). The episode makes it seem like she's doing Star and the gang a huge favor, but the way the overall story's written, it comes across as if she's giving the gang a solution to a problem she caused. She even made it look like they owe her a thank you for saving their lives, even though she had some part in the attack and didn't even try to stop Mina, the Solarian Warriors, or the rest of the MHC. Why the fuck would Eclipsa, or anyone who wasn't Moon, thank her at all? It didn't seem like she regretted her actions, or else she would've at least tried to ask Eclipsa for some form of forgiveness and actually help the Mewmans she endangered. Instead, she had the nerve to accuse Eclipsa of being a power-hungry ruler, even though all of Eclipsa's actions had nothing to do with her wanting more power. Plus, Hekapoo literally helped Moon obtain power by forcing Eclipsa to give up a title that was rightfully hers! Not to mention, it was implied that another reason the MHC helped Mina and Moon was so they could actually have conferences in their old room, implying that overthrowing Eclipsa would've given them this option. How the fuck is Hekapoo supposed to be seen as heroic at this point?

I think this essay points out just how much of a trash fire the writing for Star Vs. became after season two all the way to the end. Good ideas left to waste, the constant breaking of 'show don't tell', and just... Well, this video comes highlights my own issues with Hekapoo. I actually liked Hekapoo, but like everyone else with the show, the writing and how the character acts just ruins any true long-term attachment. I honestly felt nothing but frustration when this show ended, and despite the intention for me to feel sad about Hekapoo's passing the writers clearly wanted; I felt apathy. I felt more horrified at the ramifications of what Star and Co. did to 'save the day'. Plus the botched Aesop ruined any meaning for the message they wanted to convey.
This show just became a botched mess of a narrative, and honestly, was the sign for me that the faith Gravity Falls instilled in me that Disney was back on their feet with good shows, was not to last.

I'm not against the idea of Hekapoo or the MHC not being redeemed. The problem is it never felt like the way it was written made it clear whether we were supposed to relish in their death or find it to be tragic. I was in the former camp because fuck them, but it felt like they wanted to redeem Hekapoo and simply couldn't write their way out of a cardboard box.
I STILL don't understand what they were thinking with how they wrote her in "Cleaved." She was SOOOO apathetic to Star's proclamation of destroying magic. It wasn't like she agreed with Star that it was a desperate but necessary measure and that she'd accept whatever fate she would endure. She literally felt like she didn't give a flying fuck at that point. Maybe it was meant to be a metaphor about the creative team's opinion about giving the show a satisfying ending?
Jeez, every time I think about the show's home stretch it frustrates me to shit.

Vague, salacious rumors as to what that drama was either appeared briefly on AnimeSuperHero or mostly on select few /co/ threads (the latter not the most legitimate or politically correct source), like the creator and top writers focusing more on their supplementary book than the latter half of the show, the creator being on bad terms with the previous director (s) who were put in by Disney to mentor her or something since she had to pitch the show on the fly, Star was originally going to end up alone while Marco and Jackie were together but then they changed that to appease 'shippers after the Blood Moon Ball took off in popularity, and Disney nearly firing the creator for attitude problems until they realized doing that to their second female show-runner would be bad press, Season 2's romantic drama being based on one's personal high school unrequited love in favor of a prettier friend, and the creator not having real control until Season 3.

Only difference I assume is that Marco might have had dark magic inside him cuz of that implement from the corrupted unicorn wound, leading up the moment wher e star and Marco both hug with cheeks glowing their specific sigils.
