here in states my mother taught me to ask for a take away carton with delivery of food. then I cut portion in half and don't over do it while having a yummy 1/2 portion the next day.
Eat anything you like . Just like the french do. But all in moderation. Being a vegetarian for 25 years , has helped me enormously. Like everything in life, a little bit of everthing you like, keeps life interesting.
This life is short ,You are definitely right, do what makes you happy, eat what you like to eat , also remember to be careful what you put in your body
Thanks Margaret. This is great! It’s so true…rainbow of quality foods, portion sizes, unprocessed, in season, no denial. I’m still in the US, and it is getting so challenging - the prices, low quality, etc. I went to the grocery store the other day and saw a quart of berries for $10.99!! What? When did this happen? I don’t have a car anymore and can’t get to a co-op where things are local, and local in the store is outrageously expensive.
I tried to water pick and brush my teeth shortly after dinner. After I’ve done that I don’t want to eat something because then I have to go through the process again!
When I go out to dinner once a week, i immediately ask for a take out container and ask bring it with my food. Then I take 1/2 box it and put it aside. Done. No temptation. lol no eating anything past 6:00. I go to bed at 9:30. If you go to bed later, it’s ok to eat a bit later then. Small plate…dessert plates work well for this. No high calorie fruit drinks etc.
This was a really interesting subject! We went Wholefood Plant Based 15 years ago because I was diagnosed with a health condition and the steroids bloated me and made me feel ill. I knew there was a better way of going forward so with the help of a nutritionist, have never looked back. Cook everything from scratch and use lots of fresh herbs, spices, vegetables and fruits in season here in the UK. We are both 73 and take no meds whatsoever and are slim, healthy and full of energy. We are fast walkers and walk long distance footpaths...... problem is the food industry have made people believe that the ultra processed junk foods they sell are good for us and they hit the 'sweet' spot with fat and sugar and so many become addicted to these awful foods and because they are cheap......... we are all a sum total of what we put into our mouths!!!!
As a retired nurse I am so impressed with your results. Can I ask how long on your diet took to start relieving your condition’s symptoms? I have friends and family that want me to weigh in on their meds and health issues, I always refer them back to to the many Health care areas of practice that can help them because when I tell them that steroids are a blessing for the suffering that comes with critical and acute disease exacerbations BUT because of side effects both short and long term use, serious dedication to creating a healthy lifestyle can improve your health and reduce and possibly eliminate the need for medication, Type 2 Diabetes is one, thanks for sharing your success❣️
@@lindabiddenstadt927thank you. It took around 5 months to come off steroids and for my CRP and ESR ( apologies if letters in wrong order, I have forgotten!) levels to go to normal levels. My rheumatologist was slightly disbelieving and said I had gone into a natural remission. However the nurse took me to one side and asked for the details of what I had done! Never looked back 😊
@@lindabiddenstadt927 I did reply to this but it has disappeared! My apologies. It took 5 months to come off steroids and for my ESR and CPR ( hope I have got those in the right order!) levels returned to a low level. The rheumy nurse was amazed and wanted to know what I had done! I have never looked back and my PMR has never returned :)
For my favorite snacks or packaged foods I often read the nutrition label to see what is identified as a “serving”. Sometimes it can be surprising. That has helped me many times.
Me too, sometimes the servings are a 1/2 to 1/4 cup, and cookies 2, I did learn from the dietician at work years ago that a 3oz (the size of your fist) serving of meat or fish is all the average women needs to eat to stay healthy, no more all you can eat buffets for us, it’s so easy to go overboard👍
Margaret, you are so lucky! You say you take only one pill. I take a pill every day, that interacts with caffeine. One of my doctors says coffee is ok. But maybe she meant decaffeinated coffee. You say join a church. And I have. They say no coffee, also. Actually, I do feel better, being a part of a congregation of people that talk about an afterlife. And praying 🙏 today has really helped me. I am going to try praying 🙏 everyday. God bless you, Margaret! And thank you.
I’m a Bible believing Christian and nowhere in the bible does it say you can’t have coffee or caffeine. Everything in moderation and we are not to make an “idol” of anything giving it a more important place in our lives than God. As long as you don’t do that go ahead and enjoy your coffee. And remember Jesus loves you! 😊
I started shopping for small sizes of better brands like spinach, sauerkraut, cottage cheese and such, costs more but no leftovers to through out, and they more often than not they taste so much better and we eat anything left over in the next couple of days, when I make a trip to the store I end up with a short list…15 to 20 minutes max, please make sure to recycle to compensate for the extra packaging👍
Good Sunday afternoon🎉🎉 I just get the kid's meal when I'm out and also I eat six small meals a day, breakfast oatmeal , snack 🍎🍏 apple etc. and eat your meals on on saucer and not a big 🍽️ plate, I'm just eating healthy , walnuts, yogurt for gut health etc. blackberries , 🍓 strawberries etc. I do not believe in diets because, you will never be able to stick with it, and I cut out white sugar and most carbs, which causes inflammation in your body. Honey 🍯 is a good sweenten and is good for your body❤🎉
I intermittent fast. I have lost 20 pounds. I eat so much better. I have protein, fruits, vegetables, beans, soups. I love desert so I have one desert a day. I love coffee after much dark with a pinch of salt and a teaspoon of sugar with cheese. I have 2-3 cocktails a week.
From Europe. Eat in moderation. No need for fad diets Avoid fizzy sugary drinks, garbage takeaways, use honey instead of sugar. Meat is good for you!!! Game meat even better. A handful of Plain almonds if you feel peckish, or a couple of dates.
@kevinun-s1i I have to say that I don't know what your other comment was. I don't know how to navigate these forums !!! But if you know how to get in touch with me or how I can get in touch with you, let me know.
My mother lived until she was 105. Her mantra was everything in moderation. She cut nothing from her diet. She was always healthy. ❤

Restaurants in the states often have a “senior menu” section that is always a smaller portion meal, which is also a little less expensive. That helps!

When I go out in the US I eat a small portion and take home the rest for another day. Portion sizes are crazy huge!

Absolutely right, Charlotte. The garbage takeaway culture is the reason for the galloping obesity epidemic in our country.

Sometimes my husband and I will share a meal at a restaurant and it’s still plenty of food.
Margaret very good content. And you are looking lovely specifically the lip colour which suits you to the T.

Sounds like a very good plan!
Yes, American restaurants serve giant portions. Even the croissants are giant sized ! Share with a friend.

Adriana. Sounds highly sensible.
I dont mind eating half when the portion is large and get the to go container for a second meal.
I wonder if you have thoughts on intermittent fasting?
I just get a Togo box when eating out

If I am ever in Paris I have a croissant I will enjoy every last bite.
Absolutely Adriana. And have an éclair too. A treat once in a while does no harm!
Trader Joe's sells frozen croissant dough. You can bake one at a time. Tastes like what I had in France.
Enjoyed. Im diabetic. It's hard because they say no bread no rice no potatoes etc.....
Always get a small serving .

Bone broth
I eat whole plant-based foods and get in 6,000 to 12,000 steps a day.
