Unfortunately she never really had a significant radio hit after the big Gotye song, and while her albums have some fantastic tracks, as a whole her 2nd and 3rd albums never received good reception from critics (even though I love them lol)

When I listened to this previously I felt it was addictive. Then I forgot about it because I discovered it on RUclips but had since then moved into the world of Spotify. Then someone re-reminded me of it and I am addicted again.
Kimbra's Settle Down reminds me of a song of The Beatles, Come Together. It has a similar uncomfortable verse and then it surprises you with a pleasing chorus. I love them both!
I just found her music and her voice is so beautiful and bluesy and old but new and it’s like warm butter but it’s funky and happy and just the only music I have ever heard that I can’t explain but I love!😊!! I just saw Kimbra’s first pre-album premier show in Brooklyn recently, and when I tell you that I was floored, LISTEN- I think many will find it hard to understand just how much intent & integrity this woman has buried within her kick drums and vocal layering. She cares so, so much about speaking to people’s joy, hurt, and exploration of life through song. She spends a great deal to make things as honest and heartfelt as possible, while keeping it as weird as she can. A marvelous talent.
The build is the best thing about the song! So lush and magic once it peaks! All the vocals and harmonies and claps. It’s a whimsical fever dream of a song, love it.

I think it would be kinda cool to hear your opinion on a few Melanie Martinez songs? I know she's gaining popularity now, but I've loved her music and movie for a couple years now and I think it'd be neat to see. For reference, a few of my favourite songs are Playdate, Soap, Dollhouse, and Pity Party (which many people like), but my no. 1 favourite has gotta be Mad Hatter. Anyway, thanks for this video, not only do these small artists such as Gotye and Kimbra deserve a lot more fans, but you do too! It would be interesting to see Kimbra and Lorde do something together. Because while they have their own individual styles. Both have that slightly quirky off beat (indie) manner. Which i have grown to love. Yes they can do pop! And good pop although disparaged by many is a legitimate form of music!! Anyway with these two! You wont always get pop!!
Ever since first hearing it in 2011 I thought Vows was a great album, and Settle Down in particular an amazing song, but I am no connoisseur, and a very amateur musician at best. It's nice hearing from a music professional that they also think this is a great song, and hearing the analysis.
I discovered Kimbra around 2012 and always have known she has incredible and original talent…you really broke it down for a novice like me so well done! I personally like her Sing Sing studio recordings the best and wish she would do more of that jazz vibe in her work but it probably doesn’t sell like pop.
Love this take. You want to know something really funny. Take this explanation and layer it over the visuals you see in the video and you get exactly how she wrote her song. The beginning, quiet, don’t know what’s going on in the story. You see a girl it’s simple. Just like her simple claps and vocals. Verse enters the story you hear the bass of the chords because visually the wife is finding the husband cheating on her with another woman and it’s a strong dissonance. The girl is sort of a mess with all sorts of instruments playing. It’s like her head is mixed. Chorus- star so bright obviously is a play on twinkle little star but also a song she said inspired her which was Burt Bacharach close to you Bridge enters - it’s quiet again but here enters the two little girls, things begin to make sense and the Dissonance began to slowly weave together because they are now face to face. Harmony. The last chorus is a mix of both girls from the video. Together in harmony with both their world burned down to the ground. And out the ashes comes something new. Maybe a friendship maybe something else, we don’t know. But I love how u explained the song and it’s directly related to the video. Been a Kimbra fan since this album dropped and she had acoustic videos out promoting. I wonder if she had a big play in the video as well. Anyways great analysis!!
That's amazing, I never noticed but you're totally right! It's so cool when the music, lyrics, and video all tie together to tell a complete story. Thanks for the comment, you a genius and I appreciate you
I first discovered this song last year, now one of my top 50 favorite songs ever! I have a hard time choosing this or Cameo Lover personally. Yeah that song slaps big time
Every time i listen to her, i ask myself why the hell isnt she well known, i mean she is so pretty, her voice oh god!, her talent! Her name should be way more bigger.
Kimbra it’s …..PURE MUSIC
PURE TALENT !
She it’s UNIQUE 💎!
the Helliwood radio it’s not worthy’s of her talent… !
The Sing Sing sessions version is absolutely amazing!
im following you sir. we have the same taste in music. hahaha
I like this Music video too, is very, very, very , cool ever !
vows is my favorite album as well. accept my fave song is two way street
I'd be so interested to hear you break down her song "top of the world" off her album primal heart
It looks like Kimbra didn't keep going in that direction. That's a pity! But this song will remain a masterpiece forever.
Yessssss more people should be talking about Kimbra, Gotye ain't shit
Someone here gets it!!!!!
Love Settle Down, but I think Rescue Him or Waltz Me To the Grave are her best
The Golden Echo definitely has some bops
Chorus- star so bright obviously is a play on twinkle little star but also a song she said inspired her which was Burt Bacharach close to you
Bridge enters - it’s quiet again but here enters the two little girls, things begin to make sense and the Dissonance began to slowly weave together because they are now face to face.
Also uh if you don't mind it would be hilarious if you did some kind of short analysis on these intentionally bad songs I made: Assorted Cheek Pops (Album) - RUclips
Yeah Cameo Lover is great, one of my favorites too. Sure I'll check your songs out man
