You should post videos when you put these on a half ton truck. I have 2014 ram 1500 big horn and everywhere i go they say to do the 650 camper my weight on my truck could is 2500 . Question is you can do it but how safe is it and how well is it it for the truck . You guys should do a video on a half truck setup with the right suspension done .
Jose Callazos, I have a 2018 865 and haul it with my 2013 F150 and it does fine. I did add Timbrens to the rear suspension, but thats it. Even the 650 is legally too heavy for most half ton trucks. Ive put on about 2000 miles so far with the camper and i will say the truck handles fine and still manages to get 12mpgs doing it. Even in windy situations, it still feels very well planted to the ground and ive not experianced any sway to speak of. I feel more comfortable hauling the truck camper with this truck than i did towing the 32' travel trailer it replaced.
Beautiful camper. Interesting how the layout is exactly like my pristine 1979 Okanagan 8-6”. I definitely cannot walk on my roof, but, my table top does form part of the bed support, just makes sense in a small footprint to utilize everything. Nice tour. 👍🇨🇦
I have a '18 825 on a '17 F250 6.7l & I'm over GVWR (10K). I can't see how u can put anything more than a 650 safely/legally on a 1/2 ton. My sticker read 2150. I weighed it - 2400. Packed up it's 3K. Total 10.4KI added air bags and TorkLift stableloads
Heavier truck with a heavier Diesel engine, if you look at most of the 150’s, you’d be surprised to find a similar payload. Hellwig offers a leaf spring kit to bump up your payload an extra 300-400lbs. I go over suggestions on truck equipment to make sure every customer is safe to hit the road. Newer model Hellwig Leaf Spring kit will get a Toyota Tundra’s standard 2,200lb payload to 2,500lbs alone. (Recent findings for comparison)
Good that you match a buyer's truck and TC. Noted that the 6.7 PSD adds weight. Wouldn't trade it though. As I understand it, GVWR is GVWR and no mods (legally) raise it. And GVWR also considers things like braking ability. If I moved my 825 to another Ford, it would be a 350 SRW, NOT a 150. I'm a new subscriber. I appreciate your candid reviews, like that stupid sewer hose tube. I removed the black tube to free up storage space and capped it off.
One thing my granddad always said "just because you can, doesn't always mean you should". I like this camper, I wouldn't put it on a half. At the least a 3/4 ton. Then there are no worries about the suspension
You did just fine. It is beautiful, and would put in my truck . Yes I driven a truck and camper many/ many years. So give a try. And yes extra work on any truck to carry the load helps . The big thing is don't be stupid and over load your camp, any of them it is as simple as if you are two people pack two plates, not 6. Who ever is visiting in there camper have there own plates. You only need two change of cloths in the camper , keep it light and right. Have Fun. Don't sweat the small stuff.😊😅
Love this camper layout I've been looking for one with a great bath layout. Note: adding suspension upgrade to a half ton doesn't make it legally able to carry more weight, it just makes it easier for the truck to carry the weight. If you're in an accident and over weight you'll have an insurance situation, and potentially a legal one. Make sure you know the legal payload capacity of the truck.
In order to be legal you can up your weight limit on the registration. You just have to have the upgraded suspension inspected at the state police. The weight tag on your truck inside the door is a guideline for the stock truck. You can upgrade the leaf springs and insurance will cover it, just make sure you tell them. Just never use a truck that has coil springs on the rear.
@@moopuna that is simple by going to the DMV and paying for the added weight to be on your registration. Then pick up your cell phone and make the insurance call. All done in a day.

Class B are nice for being in the camper all the time. You never need to step out with the dog to get in the camper. Now the truck camper is nice because you have a truck and a camper. You can separate the two for maintenance or resale. The problem with looking at Truck Campers in general is the weight. You might as well buy a 350/3500 1-ton to carry it, no matter which TC you end up with.
I have a Lance 825 on a Ford F-250. Sprinters look sweet but it's nice to be able to separate the two units. Down side is that you have to exit the truck to enter the camper. As another comment mentioned. Any decent size TC needs a one ton. If I had it to do over, I'd have gotten a 350 SRW.
@@billbeyatte Thanks, Bill. I don't like the Sprinter class, more of Ford, even GMC. I like the handling of the F250 so it wouldn't be a stretch to bump up to ther F350.
@@travissmithoh The tc I've looked at seem more spacious than a B class, and I like the fact I can separate the 2. I used a F250 to tow a 30ft 5th wheel, had no problems, but thre weight is a camper would mean bumping up to a F350 dually. More stability
A dually would certainly add stability. I get a lot of roll with my 250. I'm thinking about adding some hefty Hellwig sway bars front and rear. A dually is just too BIG for me. Overkill with a Lance 825.
Short bed!? That leaves my long bed out. Darn. Darn darn. I really like the idea of a pickup bed camper because I live alone, travel to places where my two brothers and two sisters want to vacation. I used to do this with a trailer I could sleep in and tow behind a motorcycle. A truck bed camper looks absolutely metropolitan. I assume I could add airlift levelers to my truck if it needed a wee boost to the capacity. Really nice inside.
You get what you pay for. I can’t believe they pack so much in such a small space. This camper is a great option for people who don’t like the fridge in the bedroom area.
I have a 2016 Lance 865. I load mine on my 2016 Ram 2500 diesel truck. That 865 had my 3/4 ton squatting. I put on the Airlift 5000 air bags and the set up works great! I don’t think any half ton truck I’ve ever owned would have done very well with my 865 sitting in it. With air bags to level it it may be fine. I load my truck with loads of green firewood that I know for a fact outweighs my camper. The air bags level it out fine and the truck handles the camper just fine
Newer 1500 and 2500 Rams are the worst choice vehicles to pair with a truck camper. For some reason the put coil springs instead of leafs on what’s supposed to be a “Heavy Duty” truck. From experience, F250’s need zero suspension support to handle an 865. I do agree with the halfton statement as Lance no longer has a Truck Camper rated for one.
@@itsbradi had a jayco on a 98 ram 1500 3.9 2100lb. They call it the Jayco song bird. I would guess a 2 door 1/2 ton with light motor may hold this camper. I had to add coilovers
Hey Brad, great video. Have you ever seen anyone put a 7 gallon propane tank in an 865? I’d really rather have two tanks but I think I’d be okay with a single 7.
Thanks for including the price range. I’m not sure why people always ask - it’s an easy Google search to get pricing on whatever model your videos cover. Question - how much weight can truck campers handle when they are free standing?
If he is doing a review on somehting it should include price..otherwise don't do them at all..if I wanted to Google pics or specs I would be on Google doing thay instead of wasting time watching a video over 10 minutes
ikr. They are sort of a magical little world. The one with the corner kitchen would be the best for leaning over the counter, looking out the window, and rolling up righteous herb in some postcard setting.
My guess would be to use a 1/2" ton, but it would need to be a single cab or cab and a half. (They have more load rating). Then drop in an extra leaf spring in the back. Also, when you're on the pot, do your knees hit the wall in front of you?
@@itsbrad in the bed of the truck, under the camper, there's always a lil bit of space but wasn't sure how much for one of these. Tossing around the idea of an 865 lance vs a 28ft pull behind.
I guess you do not have anything for a Tacoma Toyota new truck? I’ve check out pop up tents on top of a leer camping shell, but I guess I will need to trade in for a bigger truck
I know you say this fits on a F-150 with proper upgrade suspension.. But, is it legal weight wise if something should happen? I’m talking insurance loopholes that they could use to deny a claim? I’m not sure my truck can even carry the smallest lance let alone this one... 2016 F-150 equipped with tow pkg... I’m confused with the different numbers on my door stickers... one says payload including passengers is only 1960 lbs... then there is the GVW and some other weight number that is considerably more.... I’m confused...And I will be in the market for one of these soon. The 865 seems to be the perfect size for me... sure don’t want to have to upgrade my truck if I can help it... thanks for any really good clarification on this weight stuff with regard to what an insurance company may try to pull.
If you don’t want to do any suspension mods, then do not get the 865. There are leaf spring kits out there that will raise your payload considerably more. If you’re wanting a truck camper, you need to be comfortable with getting your truck set up to carry.
Brad Fish n Fun I am completely comfortable doing what is necessary to set my truck up to carry. My question was, does that really change the payload capacity of the truck in the eyes of the insurance company’s should an accident happen? It’s my understanding that whatever you do to help your truck with carrying the load, that does not in anyway change the manufacture recommended payload. Am I wrong there?... my upgrade comment was meant to mean not going to a F-250 or 350....
Rick Haithcox picking up what you’re putting down now, yes the purpose of those kits is to raise your trucks payload. Best way to get a for sure answer, is speak with an insurance provider and let them know what you plan to do, and they’ll let you know.
I like my 2018 865 I just bought and haul with my 2013 F150. I will say with the timbrens I added, the truck and camper did awesome on my 700 mile trip back home from picking it up.

Great video! A couple questions; 1. How does the camper hold up if I want to boondock or drive back in mountainous gravel roads? I know it mostly depends on how the truck will handle the roads. I just curious how the TC will handle uneven roads ie: tilt, slide around, etc. 2. Does this come with the upper soft side which goes down when you travel? 3. When there are problems with the TC what might be typical issues that come up? Thanks.
Thank you! 1. The TC will go anywhere the truck will go, rubber bed mats for the camper to sit on and Torklift Tiedown system help secure/eliminate shifting tremendously! 2) Lance is fully fiberglass with laminate exterior and TPO front nose cap, does not lower while traveling. 3) No major issues that I’ve seen, issues I have seen is over tightening of waterline connection to water heater bypass causing leak, and no power to back up camera (which gets caught and fixed before goes to customer when it goes through our prep department).
Thank you Brad this video was very helpful. We are looking at putting a camper on our half ton truck and learning about how the suspension weight works was really good information to find out. Mary 💕 Fred
Brad I have a 1/2 ton TRX...plenty of power, but would likely need some suspension upgrades or something to take on one of these. Would love your thoughts on the right direction to go with regards to a truck camper for it, preferably with an inside wet or dry bath.
Hey Brad, new to your channel and subscriber. Found a gently used 2014 GMC Sierra with a reg cab and 8ft bed. It was a Park Ranger vehicle so they added the heavy duty suspension pack and transmission. I’d like the largest 4 season with as much counter and cupboard space as possible. The bathroom can be deleted provided it has outdoor shower hookups. What model do you recommend given the reg cab/long box, etc?
We are interested in purchasing a new lance for my 2019 Ford F-150 lariat. Could you send me some information on the lances that will fit my truck please ? Thanks.
I'm on the fence of a really light Lance camper in my Ram 3500 SRW or the biggest I can get like the 975 or 990. One question i have is I want the OPTION to keep the slide closed sometimes on the 975 or 990. Which one is the better for that??? It's great to have the option if you know what I mean for stealth camping on the street or a parking lot or gas station or whatever.
I’m not familiar with the new Jeep Gladiator specs yet as far as bed size and payload. So I’m not sure if Lance has a camper that works with it or not. Could you send me some info and measurements of the bed size to my email? sales@epbfi.com
Important to note that the vast majority of GMC/Chevy 1500 series trucks (with 5.5ft beds) have stickers hidden in the bottom glove box which state the trucks cannot be used with slide-in campers. A Lance 650 or larger camper cannot be put onto them. Check the bottom of your glove box before looking for slide-in campers for GMC/Chevy 1500 trucks.
Looks like my 2018 F150 SC with the 6.5’ bed with the heavy duty pay load pkg. would be a good fit for the 865.Do you recommend using the torque lift stable load option on the leaf springs.? Your input is appreciated
Just depends on options equipped, can range from $28k-$40k depending how many bells and whistles are added. I have availability’s on order we can discuss if you’re interested. We install Torklift, Airbags, Stableloads (if wanted), and do the Lance Plug wiring at the Dealership. Truck Equipment separate from cost of camper.
Only if you have the heavy duty payload package which Ford advertises in their commercials but doesn’t actually make for a short bed. Research it, it’s maddening.

My guess would be to use a 1/2" ton, but it would need to be a single cab or cab and a half. (They have more load rating). Then drop in an extra leaf spring in the back. Also, when you're on the pot, do your knees hit the wall in front of you?
Seems to have enough space to pop a squat, the half tons that head out always have 5000lb rating airbags added when we put one of these models in
Great camper, why did they eliminate the window to get in while driving?
If I gave an answer I’d be lying, I’m not sure 🤔
How much for this particular model, I have a 2018 ford fx4 xlt.
“Better be Packin’ some ELBOW Juice!”....😁😁😁
Think there'd be enough room in the bed under one of these for 4-8 deep cycle batteries to help with electricity storage?
Just an insulation pad under the bed
@@itsbrad in the bed of the truck, under the camper, there's always a lil bit of space but wasn't sure how much for one of these. Tossing around the idea of an 865 lance vs a 28ft pull behind.
2012 pounds "dry" weight. It would probably have to be a stripped down half ton to carry this legally?
Can you show the bunk bed too, thank you.
What needs to be done to upgrade a Ford F-150? Any idea of the ost? Thanks
I'm 6-6. Is that going to be an issue. Scott in Denver
I have a 98 Mazda b4000. You think I could fit something like that in the 6' bed?
And I’m still enjoy this channel!!!!
Thank you!!!
I guess you do not have anything for a Tacoma Toyota new truck? I’ve check out pop up tents on top of a leer camping shell, but I guess I will need to trade in for a bigger truck
Best set up iv seen yet
@@daveandcourtney6567 this is great to know... what is the posted payload capacity of your truck?
That what im looking for,Im 58 Years Old And I Have A Wife And Puppy and i need that all weather for my Dodge Ram 1500 quad cab 4x4 and thats under the weight i can carry in the truck bed but id put sway bars, the best shocks, and stronger spring and I'd be good to go wherever and whenever,Great Video,New Subscriber From Niagara Falls Ontario Canada.
Ram 1500 - stock - what models of truck camper could be used on it? Or… would it need to be upgraded for sure? If so, what upgrades?
Largest for the f150, with the 8’ long bed and the 7850 GVWR; heavy duty pay?
Lance no longer produces a camper for a 150/1500
Great video!
Oh great. Now I’m re-thinking the 825. 😁
Can’t wait for yours to come in, still haven’t seen the Royal in person, looks sweet in pictures tho!
Nice video! is there a link for the campers on the web site?
I don’t have any in stock at the moment, we have quite a few still available on order though 😁
We love watching your reviews! Keep it up!
Thank you!
make sure its fit 2021 Silverado 2500hd crewcab
👍🏼
Good rig tour. Right amount of time spent. We never hear the pricing, but that’s ok. Just means more Googling.
2021 Lance 865 starts out mid $30’s and goes up with options added!
Was there storage under dinette set
Any best weight/model for new 4 cylinder Tacoma?
Thank you Brad this video was very helpful. We are looking at putting a camper on our half ton truck and learning about how the suspension weight works was really good information to find out. Mary 💕 Fred
Great info I might have to call you and come get one. Not sure if the sell the 865 in Az. JOB...
Sounds like a plan to me
Brad I have a 1/2 ton TRX...plenty of power, but would likely need some suspension upgrades or something to take on one of these. Would love your thoughts on the right direction to go with regards to a truck camper for it, preferably with an inside wet or dry bath.
How do these fiberglass frames hold up to off roading?
I love when morgan wallen shows me around a camper.
🤠
Hey Brad, new to your channel and subscriber.
Found a gently used 2014 GMC Sierra with a reg cab and 8ft bed.
It was a Park Ranger vehicle so they added the heavy duty suspension pack and transmission.
I’d like the largest 4 season with as much counter and cupboard space as possible.
The bathroom can be deleted provided it has outdoor shower hookups.
What model do you recommend given the reg cab/long box, etc?
Is it a 1500, 2500, or 3500?
@ Oh yeah sorry, it’s a 1500 1/2
Nice looking unit. Nice tour. Is the roof solar standard equipment on the 865?
Solar is an added option
Thank u for all the info. Do any of the Lance come with smaller beds as I travel solo and find it a waste of space?
They do not, some customers remove the standard bed and swap after purchasing though
Sorry, forgot to mention the slide out pantry. I’m human! Lol I love it! Brad your genuine.👍🍻
Thanks Kevin!
Ok , I have a dodge3/4 ton 2009 quad cab 8 ' bed. Will the 865 fit in it ? .
I have a 2017 f150 lariat with a 5.5ft bed will this still work?
What's the price range for something like this? Or anything comparable that would work with a Tacoma trd
What w9uld be the price
We are interested in purchasing a new lance for my 2019 Ford F-150 lariat. Could you send me some information on the lances that will fit my truck please ? Thanks.
Sure thing, when you get a chance email me at sales@epbfi.com or call (423) 892-6272
My hours are 9am-5pm Monday-Friday & 9am-3pm Saturday!
@@itsbrad I sure will ! Ill get settled into work & give you a shout later. Thanks !
did you ever call
I'm on the fence of a really light Lance camper in my Ram 3500 SRW or the biggest I can get like the 975 or 990. One question i have is I want the OPTION to keep the slide closed sometimes on the 975 or 990. Which one is the better for that??? It's great to have the option if you know what I mean for stealth camping on the street or a parking lot or gas station or whatever.
Shortbed or Longbed?
@@itsbrad long bed with an auxiliary diesel tank. It's about 18 inches.
Whats the cost on this?
Will this fit in an 8 ft bed ?
Are they a four season camper? I think I’ll go for a 3/4 ton, just for safety sake. Cheers!!!
Absolutely, it’s an option for 825 & up!
I did not expect them to be that high in price.
I know, right? Travel trailers are less expensive, on average.
“You better be packin’ some elbow juice” 😂 ❤

Oooo a camper in the back of my Gladiator, but it has a 3" lift kit ????
Great informative videos Brad! One of the best out there! Question: Is the 850 available with a truck access window below the the cab-over?
Pass thru window does not show up as an option to order anymore. I’m not sure why they did away with it 🤔
I appreciate your honesty, ie. price, weight, etc... Great tour and product. Thanks!
Thank you!
Looks like my 2018 F150 SC with the 6.5’ bed with the heavy duty pay load pkg. would be a good fit for the 865.Do you recommend using the torque lift stable load option on the leaf springs.? Your input is appreciated
Can you still get to the trailer hitch so I can pull my UTV? Thanks
Absolutely with a hitch extension, I have a picture of our set up posted under the community tab on my page!
how much does this 865 cost out the door? And is there anything I'd have to do to my truck before picking up my camper?
Just depends on options equipped, can range from $28k-$40k depending how many bells and whistles are added. I have availability’s on order we can discuss if you’re interested. We install Torklift, Airbags, Stableloads (if wanted), and do the Lance Plug wiring at the Dealership. Truck Equipment separate from cost of camper.
I have a Ford ranger with a 6 foot bed, what do you recommend for it?
Lance hasn’t released a TC for the Rangers, Tacomas, or colorados just yet. Sure hope they do soon though, would be nice to have one for my Taco!
How about a Dodge Ram 2500, 2001?
jroar123 short or long bed?
I love your Tennessee twang all my family is from East Tennessee. Go Vol's 🏈
I was born in TN, but my family is from/some still in Tuscaloosa, AL 😂
Brad Fish n Fun my parents moved to Alabama. I was born in Huntsville myself. Correction Roll Tide 🏈 😂
Hey Brad....I have a Ford F-150 XLT Ecoboost truck. Do you think the 865 would be able to fit on the bed of my truck? Thanks! 🙏🏽
Lance recommends the 650, 825, & 865 for the 150 Shortbeds!
Only if you have the heavy duty payload package which Ford advertises in their commercials but doesn’t actually make for a short bed. Research it, it’s maddening.
