    Stopping in the middle of the tunnel like that is prohibited, unless it's for an emergency. The tunnel traffic is monitored. As soon as a car stops an automatic alarm goes to the tunnel supervision crew. You risk being fined if they catch you sightseeing in the tunnel like that. Stopping like this has infact become a huge problem for this particular tunnel. So much so that accidents have become quite frequent, due to tourists stopping to take pictures.

    • @Torgersen94
      @Torgersen94 2 года назад +3

      This is false. Stopping is fully legal. But parking and/or sleeping as some truck drivers has done is not allowed

    • @loadinglevelone
      @loadinglevelone 2 года назад +2

      @@Torgersen94 Well, technically it's not legal. There is clearly a "no parking" sign right by where they've stopped (1:42). The authorities are constantly out in the local media saying
      "please do not stop in the tunnels!". Every time a car stops it triggers the tunnels ATS systems causing false alarms. Especially during the high tourist seasons there have been too many near accidents due to people stopping in the tunnels. Not wise. People stopping has become an ever increasing headache for the authorities. When the lærdalstunnel was initially opened the authorities did not mind people stopping. Some would say that the even encouraged it. But the ever increasing trend of tourists stopping has forced them to discuss new measures. We are just one small accident away from a complete ban.

    The saying Lars told you about closing your eyes for a couple of sec when entering a tunnel was probably meant to be closing only one eye while you keep one eye open and then just open both as it gets dark. It really helps a lot when its bright outside in some tunnels. The more modern ones usually have bright light in the beginning and then fade it as you get in so your eyes can adjust.

  • @glot1n
    @glot1n 2 года назад +3

    A trick for the tunnels is using sunglasses in the daylight and just lift them up when you enter the tunnel. That way your eyes are better prepared for the darkness...
    Get some cheap flip up sunglasses that fits over your glasses.
    A lot better than closing your eyes for 2 seconds

    A foreigner living in Norway here. Just to tell you about the shop prices.. at first glance everything seems pretty expensive but actually part of getting groceries in Norway is following all the discounts they have every week. Just by following them I have found a lot of high quality food for very low prices and have saved so much on food from that. They have some sort of a system. For example after 7 o'clock (if I am not mistaken) they put huge discounts on bread so you can find it very cheap. Also if some shops they give soon to expire fruits and veggies for free which is amazing. So if you plan to stay longer you might consider that. And also always look for the brand of the shop. They are the cheapest. :)

    Hiking boots generally are expensive for sure, unless you get a good discount. The reason for the price, however, is that we know the value of a good quality boot and usually spend extra on that.

    Are you going to drive to the far North?
    You can reach Finland there, come through Lapland and South to reach Helsinki, where there's a shortish ferry to Estonia.
    And costs get a bit cheaper in Finland compared to Sweden, definitely Norway, with nearly zero parking or toll road charges. Do it!!

    It is frustrating that such a wonderful part of the world is so expensive for tourists. I gather it is because tax on goods is the main form of taxation, income tax is quite low for people who work there.

    You might be told to pay a road toll\tax. Bomring or gate tax? It's not enforced from turists. It's meant for the locals to pay for the road. So just ignore it.
