I agree. Neutral doesn't just mean "brown." My neutrals are sage/olives, mauve/berry tones, & soft desaturated peach/rose shades as well as all the bronze/brown/gold shades.
Same! I definitely would throw greens in with browns and mauve colors as “basic AF” colors! I’m doing 1 week/1 palette on my channel starting next week! Yes Alicia join me! 😂
Alicia, I could sit and listen to you swatch and talk about palettes ALL day long! Your content is so top notch. My only wish is that you could hear my commentary too. 😂 We would be talking for hours. ❤
This was so fun. I love listening to you talk about the nuances of color. I’m glad you included pseudo-neutrals like the popular rosy shades and my favorite olives and golds. ❤Can you do another blush video soon? I loved your terracotta blush video.❤
I did a huge declutter of my palettes. I kept buying palettes with similar color stories. I’ve made peace with letting go of palettes that I simply adore. Some are featured in this video. I still have Viseart Cashmerie. In fact, I have her on today.
You selected the best of the basic B palettes! Scary thing is I have all of them and not a content creator 😆. When you listed Burberry, Chanel, Cocoa Mirage, Supreme, ND mini I was like wow she’s picking all the oldies but goodies that get forgotten. You’ve inspired me to get those out & start using those instead of the same ones. Thanks for this video and all the thought that went into it and swatches. 😊❤️
Alicia, my go-to basics palette was built around your Sydney Grace bundle. I added a deeper brown matte, a bone/cream matte, & a champagne shimmer to the bundle to make my perfect warm/neutral palette. It's what I reach for most ❤ The shade Paris is my favorite lid shade of all time.
I LOVE my Viserart palettes, I use them so often. So far I only have a couple of their all matte palettes because I recently found the brand last year. They're currently my only basic palettes. But I plan to get a few from my wish list on Black Friday this year. And I also have ND Mini Biba on my wish list. 😊❤
For us darker gals: ABH: Jackie Aina's palette (although discontinued), Pat McGrath: Divine Rose II, Huetopian Dream, and Sublime (LOOVVEEE!!), and Finally Byredo Flora Kalahari and we're done!! DONE!!
❤ I have been not so nicely told that I am "not brown enough," 🙄 but I also love huetopian dream. I feel like it was the twist on the divine rose story that works for me. It's gorgeous.
@A Jae I am saying that huetopian dream works as a lovely neutral palette for a range of skintones. It's one of my favorite PML palettes. Someone hurt my feelings when they said how pale I am... I guess it's been eating at me. My doctor told me to go outside. 😄
I'm still so salty every time I see that ur under 100k, like, ppl be sleeping on you!! You are such a gift to makeup lovers!! Soooo much knowledge in every video. I want you to be my sister, my mother, my bestie and my neighbor 😂 I adore ur personality so much!! Thank you for always being so detailed 😊
"Earthy" is the key to neutral colours, Alicia. I would agree that olives and mauves can fit in a neutral palette for sure. Thanks for this well thought out video. Even if I do not have these palettes, I still enjoy the analysis of the colour stories from these palette vids you've recently presented.
Two thoughts. One, what serves you as a neutral palette is completely dependent on your personal undertone and the saturation level of your skin. For instance, ND Bronze palette is not neutral for me. It’s a New Years Eve party look on me. However, PML Mothership X is a neutral, desaturated, everyday palette, for me. Secondly, I call this list of palettes “ Sophisticated Neutrals ” not basic bee. Not even close to basic bee, actually. Nuanced and subtle, yes. They aren’t rainbow palettes. But I like nuance. And I feel a strong need for that Artist Couture nude palette now. ❤
I don't know how you do it your the only RUclips that analyses shades colours tones in an interesting intelligent eloquent way. I am sitting here listening and fascinated by the different facets of the term 'neutral' being a strictly neutral eyeshadow wearer I think I am inspired to consider trying different neutral tones, ie mauve, khaki, well done great video 😊
I would love to see this same concept for colorful palettes! I’d have to pick my naked palettes as my basics. I don’t use them much but they’re definitely basic all the way around.
I’m in the number of people who needed more from Divine Rose. I felt like you were talking directly to me! I agree that neutrals are more than browns. I consider greens and mauves to be neutrals too.
Can you please do a Suqqu swatching video? 🙏 I just got into their eyeshadows this spring. I want to try more but obviously there’s no way to see them in person in the US. I love the Byredo palette too. It’s so beautiful to look at and to use. Great video! Thanks ❤
The first time I watched you was your review of the new Byredo palette. You completely chamged my mind on that palette. At first I didnt see the appeal but after your video the palette ended up on my wish list! The swatches and the way you explained it, stunning. ❤
This is a wonderful video! I don’t even have a lot of these but I am inspired to look for my favorite neutrals. I am definitely in the camp of many different times of neutral! For me, anything that is not bold color, can be made into a neutral. Mauves and olives are absolutely up there!!!!
I too think of my Viseart Matte palettes as my most basic palettes. I love all three, and I’m constantly surprised at how “not warm” the mattes warm palette look on me. I am afraid I’m going to hit pan on Cafe, which is the ultimate neutral brown IMO. In fact, I repurchased the Mattes Milieu palette because I dropped it and my favorite shade, Latte, shattered & they don’t sell any of those mattes as singles anymore. I also think the Viseart Sultry Nudes and Paris Nudes are great basic palettes. You almost got me buying Byredo until I remembered I have desaturated tones from Viseart that I barely touch because my eyes are much more hooded than yours and goodness, I like striking shades, so I’m good. It does look like a gorgeous palette. You also inspire me to play with Biba… which I haven’t reached for since you started influencing me to buy All The Mother Pat collection and Viseart through their sales…also those ND minis. Thank you for the reminder to play with what I have!!!
The mini nude is one of my faves too. You have lots of my fave palettes in this vid but that one shimmer in the mini nude is so special. Thanks for a great vid!
Oh, this video is just what I needed! This is so helpful and so educational! Thank you!! Also, have you ever tried Beyond Beige by Surratt Beauty? Their powders are made in Japan and are absolutely gorgeous.
I never gave the byredo remembrance a second look til I saw your vid on it! Immediately fell in love! It will sit firmly on my wish list since I have zero $ to be purchasing more eye shadow, nor do I need another eyeshadow for eons lol.. But it's just so PRETTY! 😂
Thank you for including people for whom warm tan isn’t a neutral color! I’m cool and muted and mauves are definitely the colors that look most neutral on me
Neutral is so dependent on the person undertone and depth. Olive is my neutral and pink is definitely not but on a pale white person pinks and mauves are.
First off, you’re so beautiful. Thank you for including Viseart. So underrated. I love “MatteNeutrals”. Every eyeshadow lover should own it. Also, Burberry has amazing cosmetics. Tom Ford Sous ale Sable…ah, Cheifs kiss 💋 😘. Great video.
Hello Alicia it is the first time I am writing to you. Found your chanal just a view days ago. Now I am in my 50s and getting more mature skin. I feel I have to change my colors on the lid 😅. I am so happy for your video today. I learned so much more about neutral colors and what I can combine together. Also by using the right tool for getting a more softer version of colors was new to me. Thank you so much. I do not have any of these pallets. I’m very pale so I don’t know where to start 😅 love to hear more from combining colors together. Greetings from far away (germany). Mery
I really appreciate this one. I'm a basic af type of person, so this was right up my alley. Appreciate how you diversified brand, size, range of neutrals, too. Great choices!
It’s interesting you’ve expanded the idea of neutral to fit a greater range of tones in the spectrum as long as they have a similar desaturation level as skin.
There was the Marc Jacobs one that was neutral. How about benefit Hoola? I can’t stand the box but I know the shade is not as warm. What have you tried?
@@aliciaarcher I swatched some shades at ulta the other week and bought the ABH bronzer in Saddle. It looked ok..the formula was amazing and so was the packaging but it looked slightly orange. I recently picked up the milani bronzer in sun kissed and it seems to look a lot more natural. I am using the sonia g soft cheek brush with it and DAMN is that brush amazing!! Can you do an updated favorite Fude brush video. I'm seriously obsessed with your brush videos. Your the Fude brush queen 👸
You are so pretty 😊I love this video because I tend to think only browns for neutral now that I’m a “ mature” woman and I worry about colors- which I love.
Good lord…I cannot mess with you 😂 Your descriptions if the colors and how you would combine the color makes me want them all…ALL I say. I’m missing so many and need to catch up 😂😂 My bday is coming and I will be spoiling myself.
Be still my neutral skintoned eyeshadow heart. The build up to each palette reveal 😍 ✨️ 🖤. If this was an exam, I would have gotten 2 correct : viseart cashmerie and byredo remembrance 😊
The Mario and the Byredo palettes are so basic but SO special! I bought both off of your recommendation and I’m so happy I did. Majority (if not all) of my palette purchases are based off of your videos and recommendations and I’ve never been disappointed yet. Thank you so much, friend! I appreciate you and you’re impeccable taste in beauty! 🙌🏽
Mario’s Master Mattes palette, Lorac Soleil palette, and Natasha Denona’s Mini Retro palette. (*I have an olive undertone that ranges from light medium during the winter to tan/light dark in the summer).
I've got a pink undertone and mauves *are* my browns - they look on me like brown looks on warm skin tones. But rose and mauve colors are everyone's neutrals too because everyone's skin blushes - it's a native color to your face which makes it a neutral.
Hi Alicia! Just found your channel this week and have been watching a few of your vids - and of course I subscribed:) You’re so fun, love the iightness you bring to your channel, and how diverse the brands are in your collection! So true about neutrals - and also depends upon the person and their vibe; like, eye color, skin tone, hair color, etc. Plus just WHO they exude. My fave TF is Nude Dip, which is (to me) the ULTIMATE Basic B palette! There are a lot of great options tho. Another one I enjoy is the Natasha D Glam palette, although it is a bit sparkly for Basic B stats! I have been on a Natasha & Pat McG binge this week! $$$$$😅
I have warm undertones, but can wear cool warm colors like lavender. I would buy the Natasha Denona Biba, but I don't know if I can wear them all. There are a lot colors I can pair with some colors from other palettes I have. I can definitely use some colors as a transition eyeshadow or use in the inner eye.
Such a great video! I really enjoyed it. You speak about the colors and make swatches like no other! Most of the palettes you mentioned I have in my collection and after your video I want to play with them again.. My favorite palette is the cocao mirage.Pity that this palette is discontinued..
I was worried that I would have every palette on your list! 😂🫢 I don't though! I have three. I think that makes perfect sense and is reasonable... 😅 Love TF cocoa mirage. If I want to look like I am adulting at 💯 at all times, this is it! I also love viseart cashmere (I am not fighting auto correct). It's my basic B elevated palette for sure. Like basic B goes to a work event. PML the golden one. This is my usual color story. Peachy golden bronze tan brown all day, YES. It can go on a bit heavy. 🤷🏽♀️ That's my only gripe. I really do love a buildable and blendable formula more than the thicc opaque formulas. If I was to make my own list, I would include viseart apricot and ND bronze... based on my personal taste and habits. ❤ Such a fun topic 😂
Love love love this video!! I’m a neutral girl all day and I also adore rosy browns! Warm tones typically look better on my skin tone. I need that Pat McGrath and Suqqu palette although I really love all the Suqqu quads! Thanks Alicia!❤
My favourite Basic BAF palettes are the Dior Backstage in warm neutrals, and the Charlotte Tilbury Super Nudes (the 6 pan all matte one). Both of these are so boring looking I'm pretty sure most people don't even look at them when they're browsing on Sephora but if I lost all my (basic) eyeshadows, they'd be the first (and probably only) ones I'd go out and buy.
Generally (and this is just an opinion), I consider anything that could be worn in a standard "corporate" American (bc that's where I live) office setting as neutral. Now I understand that every office is different and has their own culture, that's why I made sure to add that this is just my opinion. Anyway, bc there are so many different undertones, as well as hair colors, eye colors.. and a million combos of those kinds of features, practically every color has a shade within its gradient that could fit into the "neutral" category. I mean, even a snow white shade varies depending on who wears it. On someone with a deep skintone, it really pops, whereas if someone extremely fair were to wear it, it would fade into their skin tone and would be barely noticeable. Just my two cents :)
Thanks so much!!🎉 I always get confused when people use the word neutral, because I never know if they are referring to the undertone or some kind of overtone color, like brown...
Totally agree, They are classic and can be used season after season.IMO neutral palettes or "boring" are much more versatile (work and play) and more bang for the buck .
People have olive undertones and pink/mauve cheeks so of course those should be considered neutral, imo. Same for natural haircolours. Love these faves!
I lean more towards slightly warmer neutrals. But I do think that CP Baroque palette with its dark sultry cool tones is a beautiful palette. I hate greys on my eyes because they look ashy and unflattering. But the tones in this palette lean more blue than grey, and somehow, that makes them look good on me. Also, these may be older palettes, but the Bare Minerals 6-pan palettes Latte and Copper are amazing. Plus they are travel friendly. I will always love my Persona Cosmetics Identity palette. I consider that a neutral palette as well. I consider ND bronze and glam palettes and even the Retro palette as more neutral palettes along with the Biba as well. And they are gorgeous. JP Warrior palette is a stunning warm neutral palette as well. 😊❤
Hi friend ☺️ I just love your taste in make up 🙏🏼 I bought the last Byredo one on your " advice " it’s very long to get it, they have so much demands but I can’t wait to play with it 🙏🏼 thx for you great videos you are very agreeable to watch and listen to 👏🏼😘
I consider even orange and yellow to be neutrals if you find the right shade for your skintone. neutrals are all about how the colors interact with your coloring.
I think of the term basic as different from neutral. For me a basic palette has what you need to complete a look in a tight color story that works for every day use. A neutral palette for me is related to warmth or cool…just a thought. I have many of these…I got the Byredo the same day you posted your video. Had to do some research but found it at the local Byredo store. I had to have it. Love the Chanel Les beiges…but I love Chanel and have a lot of the basic but very nice palettes. Just bought the Artist Couture…I have had my eye on it since you reviewed it originally. It was 1/2 piece at Sephora so I did it. Missed out on the Burberry…so that is why did not make the same mistake with the Byredo. As always great video. I know you don’t have many cool tones palettes…but would be intrigued about your collection. I love cool tones palettes
You’re right! And I thought about this further after filming, and should’ve made the distinction between basic and neutral. Neutral doesn’t necessarily have to be synonymous with basic, but I understand that generally people are neutrals as the foundational shades. And basic could be different for many people. I missed out on the first Burberry palette with the plums and burgundies 😮💨 But happy with this palette because of the khaki and bronze tones 😍
@@aliciaarcher the lesson is to wait if we can be ok to not get it…but a real love…needs action! Thank you for a fun video…these are the palettes that get the most use 😎
@@isabelab6851 indeed! Probably why I haven’t jumped at the new ABH cosmos, yet. I like the mattes but the duochromes are a little frosty. Not all, but will need to see it in person for a better idea.
I loved this video! One question about the Suqqu quads: I've fallen in love with the quad that was a runner up to your top pick (which you pronounced "Kokiyo"), with a deep rose in the bottom left and a smoky shade in the bottom right---but I can't find anything with that name, or anything close, on either the Suqqu or Cult Beauty websites. To my eye, it looks most like 01 MIZUHANA or 11 YOIYUKARI. Can you tell me which one it is? Thanks!
I would love to know your top eyeshadow formula. As someone with more mature eyes. I can’t be bothered with subpar formulas and look dusty af. I need smooooth eye lids.
What was the suqqu one that didn’t win 😩 the mauvy one… the last one you listed before going back to the one that won out 😱😍 it’s gorgeous (and I’m trying to further justify my $55 to Selfridges for shipping 😂)
I agree. Neutral doesn't just mean "brown." My neutrals are sage/olives, mauve/berry tones, & soft desaturated peach/rose shades as well as all the bronze/brown/gold shades.

Yes! And depending on your skin tone will determine how neutral those shades look. I’m a yearly subscriber to the rosy brown camp 🤣

Love that your two Natasha Denona picks are the two that I have! I agree. They're 10/10. Loving these palette rankings/pick videos!
Such a great video! I really enjoyed it. You speak about the colors and make swatches like no other! Most of the palettes you mentioned I have in my collection and after your video I want to play with them again.. My favorite palette is the cocao mirage.Pity that this palette is discontinued..
My current favorite Basic B palette is the Tom Ford Metalust. It’s just so perfect. For me.
I love when you mention products I forgot about! As I pull my TF quads out the draw
I love my Viseart Milieu!!!
What a fantastic video love it so much to choose from
Love love love this video!!
I adore the Viseart Cashmerie palette! ❤
Thanks so much!!🎉 I always get confused when people use the word neutral, because I never know if they are referring to the undertone or some kind of overtone color, like brown...
Beautiful colors, now I want to go and swatch all mine 😂😍
Great video idea! A lot consider basic or neutral palettes as "boring" but to me that viewpoint is boring 😅 Love them, classic is never out of style ❤
Totally agree, They are classic and can be used season after season.IMO neutral palettes or "boring" are much more versatile (work and play) and more bang for the buck .
Double Indemnity by TF is my favorite Basic lol obsessed.
My number one basic palette is Biba, hands down. And yes I could survive with just it.
I challenge you to give us looks for 3-5 days with all of your palette picks. Once again, thanks, YT cousin ❤
I think of Linda Halberg infinity deep or infinity & ND mini zendo
Mauves are my neutral shades so I feel ya.
Coco mirage might be the very thing I’ve been on the hunt for…. Of course 😂
Hi friend ☺️ I just love your taste in make up 🙏🏼 I bought the last Byredo one on your " advice " it’s very long to get it, they have so much demands but I can’t wait to play with it 🙏🏼 thx for you great videos you are very agreeable to watch and listen to 👏🏼😘
I was thinking PM’s DV1 when I saw the title. But mine is Fenty’s Bronzer in Thick Mint
Have you ever tries the Roen quads ? I'd like to know your thoughts.
Your convincing me to buy a Tom ford pallete lol love your channel ❤
I consider even orange and yellow to be neutrals if you find the right shade for your skintone. neutrals are all about how the colors interact with your coloring.
Love these videos How Fun and Love to see how many others share your Favorites Too lol 😂 ❤❤❤Thank you As always Many blessings To you xoxo 😘 🤗 🙏 ❤🎉❤😊
When i saw the title, Biba Barbaque poped into my head first. I agree neutrals aren't just browns.
@@aliciaarcher totally get it
I loved this video!
Maybe is definitely a neutral in my brown skin
for me my most basic palette is viseart solstice. everyday peach tones.
Yep don’t sleep on a well formulated satin shadow 😊
What was the suqqu one that didn’t win 😩 the mauvy one… the last one you listed before going back to the one that won out 😱😍 it’s gorgeous (and I’m trying to further justify my $55 to Selfridges for shipping 😂)
Biba Biba Biba!!!😃
Neutrals can be sexy! All gorgeous palettes! 😍😍😍
You are just Cool AF!
Taupe opportunities 😂😂
❤❤❤❤
