This trilogy was my first luxury eyeshadow purchase. I’m just a country girl in rural CT, but when I saw those shadows on me, I felt transformed. I saw new sides to myself. Me, glam? Dare I say, even sophisticated? Me? Yes. I’m gonna believe it. Yes.
Well this was unexpected 😂 Tbh it took a long time for me to drink the kool aid myself and I still dont own any of the original 3 MTHRSHIPS but I remember the moment their release created. And if anyone disagrees about their impact you're welcome to but I said what I said. My thoughts on indie brands doing comparable or in some cases better special shades before Pat, I agree. I love an indie shadow and have many, but indie shadows took longer to catch on in the more "mainstream" part of the community and make a splash and I would argue that one reason they have is that people were trying to share alternatives to Pat's palettes because they didnt want to pay the high price and some people in the community were already familiar with indies. So even in that way, iconic impact.
Agreed! And I would even say, that perhaps Pat played a role in being more mainstream than indie- became a gateway to indie shadows for those who weren’t aware of that category. Perhaps they started with Pat and now are all indie! But as you said, no matter how you slice it, waves were made!
@@aliciaarcheryes, this is what happened for me - PML, Subversive palette in particular, was a gateway into indie brands! For me it’s still the most astonishing eyeshadow palette I have ever seen 😅❤
Well said Brian! I really appreciate the thoughtful conversations in your comment sections and the dedication you take to reply. It makes this a safe welcome space for makeup lovers so thank you and thank you to everyone here in the comments!
I love these types of conversations! Because RUclips was originally a space for creativity, and now I feel, with the beauty space anyway, it’s become a marketplace. So to keep my own budget in check, I’m going back into the archives 🤣
“The fine art of makeup “ it is exactly the feeling of the Mothership’s concept . I’m a fine art photographer and I love and admired the work of Desiree Mattsson who has collaborated with Pat’s art concept for the motherships and maybe more of the art work With such unique style . So your comment is just right ❤ i couldn’t say it better.
I feel lucky to have been a part of such an iconic moment in the makeup industry. Pat's mothership concept changed the way I think about makeup application. The "holy trinity" gives me all the feels. I love me a good nostalgic Pat video, thank you Alicia!
Love these Pat Mcgrath videos! Please keep making this kind of video, even for other brands. ❤ It’s giving art, brainstorming, history, technical perspective, everything! It’s so nice to see an eyeshadow video that isn’t solely for the purpose of buying/reviewing for buying.
Hey Alicia. Excellent critique and review. A lot of people just don’t understand the effect of the supply and chain on our lives….and the continued effect it is having. Not only in makeup, but in cars ect. In order for Pat to bring back some of these textures and formulas we are going to have to pay more. Unfortunately it’s not in a lot of people’s budget (including mine). She is just having to make some business decision.
When you’re right, you’re right. I started my PMG collection in 2020, literally from watching your videos, and they absolutely changed the game for me. I’d loved the brand from afar but had never considered it until then because of the price. But I had reached a point in my life where I was ready to bite the bullet and go for it. The price, the size, the luxury… nothing else has compared for me, and my whole perception of the quality (and price) of makeup I use has eternally shifted. And you and Brian are absolutely correct that these were the truly special ones. It would not be the same if she had started out with the consumer-friendly color stories, it wouldn’t have had the same impact. These are the ICONS
Yes! I’m happy Pat released her MTHRSHP concept post mothership. We had a glimpse when she released her eyeshadow kits, but when those eyeshadow palettes dropped, BANG! 🤣
I agree that sublime mothership number two was totally a take on Rose tone colors. Even though it doesn’t look like a pink palette, there are various shades that have a pink undertone. That green distracts everyone from thinking of that, but this really is the original rose, inspired palette.
The OGs! Love it! The Golden Age! I’m afraid you’re right, we may have seen the end of the opulence and extravagance of PMG. Can’t wait to hear you speak on Subliminal, Sublime & Subversive! It feeds my eyeshadow loving soul!
Yes, and who knows if the brand will have a resurgence. I’m just happy that I picked up the original three, and if anything I’ll use those to help cope with the lost era 😅
I love that you're making these videos about "old palettes". I only started collecting Motherships a year ago and now bought Divine Rose II, Moonlit Seduction and just weeks ago, Subversive. Absolutely love Subversive. I'm not sure I will ever own all of them, but I love getting into my makeup collection along with your videos that honor older releases. Your newest Bronze Seduction video prompted me to swatch all the bronze tones in my collection and realize how many beautiful shades I already have! I still love buying Makeup, but I'm not always hunting down the newest and shiniest, instead I carefully pick exactly what fits me, and try to enjoy what I already have as well. Your channel helps a lot with that!
Go Brian! He and you must have read my mind because I was going over my collection and thinking about the holiday releases that I wanted to secure this year and distinctly thought “I’m more inclined to use my OG Motherships than buy her holiday collection.” Whoop whoop! I adore Subversive! To me it’s what the Urban Decay Naked Metal Mania wishes it was. I listen to a lot of metal and Subversive encapsulates that so well!!
Yes! Subversive is so metal ⚡️ And like you, I’m leaning into my old collection more. I’m even contemplating skipping this holiday release. It will be difficult, but we shall see.
Subversive is a whole vibe and definitely one of my favourite Motherships ever! I really enjoy your videos when you use palettes you already own. It never gets old revisiting products already in your stash. It’s a chance to fall in love and appreciate them all over again 😊.
Subversive. I agree that it’s Pat’s most iconic palette. I still think about it now and then, maybe I’ll pick it up someday. Looking forward to your updated looks video, something full-on grunge-runway would be stunning.💜
You brought up so many good points and I agree completely. I truly hope Pat creates something as spectacular as the first three motherships in the near future. I haven’t bought a mothership palette since Divine Rose II. In the meantime I’ll be anxiously awaiting your six looks videos! 💖
So many good points!! Especially coming from the ABH modern renaissance, all warm halo eye era, dropping three palettes with cooler, grungy tones and statement formulas was ICONIC. I still think if the OG three were displayed at Sephora, they would be hugely popular now. She was ahead of her time then and though eyeshadow tech and options have expanded exponentially since their release, imo they still hold up.
Thank you for this video. I understand and respect why do many consumers are disappointed, and it’s refreshing to see people who are grateful for her ingenious work!💕
Yes, I think Pat’s presence has been diluted and I can only speculate as to why. In the meantime, I don’t think what’s happening now should overshadow her earlier work.
The subversive palette was one I waited for a long… long time to come back in stock. When I finally was able to buy it, it truly turned into one of my favorites for a grungy colorful mood! I was grateful to get lots of ideas from your videos on it! ❤
I so agree. Absolutely iconic. When I see Subliminal… Oooo it still gives me the feels❤. Also, there are still so many endless looks that can be created with all three of these palettes. Mixing and matching the colors as well. Yes the brand has shifted gears but we always have the original Motherships and they are a masterpiece!
This video is a good reminder to me to USE my motherships!! They’re all pieces of art to me & indeed are iconic! Out of the first three, I own Mothership 1 and love how it’s cooler in tone & adore the lavenders, greys & blues. Grateful for your honest content, Alicia, and to Brian for sparkling the idea for this video❣️❣️🤗🤗
To me Subliminal is very oceanic and almost ancient in its spoils. From the depths of the deepest, untouched trenches (Xtreme Black, Blitz Blue) to the kinesthetic excitement of sand & rock at shore (Ultimate Taupe, Substance); From the sun glinting through cresting waves (Atsral White, Skinshow Nude), to pirates toting spices & gold on their vessels (Depth, Pale Gold 002) and the sirens that beckon them to their deaths (VR Violet, Lilac Dust). Foreboding but magnetic. While Moonlit Seduction is the aura that lights the night and pulls the tides, Subliminal is the water. It is the tug from the moon that we feel in our blood, both foundational and mysterious.
I remember the first time I got to know Pat McGrath and tried it in a Sephora store, I had a "fireworks" moment, but unfortunately I wasn't able to afford any that time. I can happily state now that I have most of them, but not the last one, for obvious reasons. Those palletes make me happy and motivated everyday.
I agree with everything you said in this video, Alicia. I have been wondering why we were no longer getting the mesmerizing baked shades and were instead getting pure glitter. I was hoping someone would talk more about the “why” instead of the “what?” Thank you for that. I will never stop appreciating the iconic Muvah and how she changed perspective on makeup for me. And I will always appreciate you for bringing Muvah and more to us. Thank you
Co-sign! Her first three Motherships are some of her best work! Mothership III still gets compliments whenever I wear it. No one has presented a palette in the way that Pat McGrath has. I may have to break them out again and play!
Love this video. I think it really encapsulates (for me) how I feel about early PMG and the brand now. No bones about it PMG’s palettes these days are really good but…at one time, they were something really special and great and I miss those days as a fan.
This discussion is excellent. I agree that the first 3 motherships are iconic, and will always be a true moment to remember. I had been a big fan of Pat McGrath’s work over the years and was so excited when she started coming out with her own products. I’ll never forget attending a Painted by Fame class and watching Miss Fame show how to do that bold red glitter lip with one of Pat’s first lip kits. I wanted everything, but couldn’t swing it at the time and things often sold out so quickly anyway. But when the motherships came out, I saw Subversive and bit the bullet to buy it. It will always be my favorite of the motherships because I find it so versatile and I’m a sucker for purples. When the next sale starts, I actually plan to pick up Subliminal because it’s been on my list for awhile and none of the recent releases have spoken to me. I think you’re right about the effect of the pandemic on things. She also took on some investors a couple years ago or so, and I’m sure that there is different pressure involved with the collections due to that, sadly. Pat’s such an artist and that first trio of motherships, as well as some of the earlier releases really showed it. The current day brand is different and nothing has piqued my interest for a long time, but she’s always an incredible MUA and has good quality products, so time will tell.
Yes, between the investors and pandemic challenges, the brand inevitably was going to evolve. The Divine Rose concept was wildly successful, and I think prevented any other color stories from shining. If it wasn’t pink, then it would sell as well.
“Punk Rock 90s curation“ absolutely!!! It’s all about the art of the palette as a whole, packaging and all! I can justify owning each palette through an annual purchase, since I’m not buying eyeshadow throughout the year.
Subliminal was my first pallette. It's how i fell in love with the brand. I love recreating your look with the blue shade as an eyeliner. It's one of the few look I recreate over and over. Dang how many years ago did you post that 3 look video.
Gigabyte on the cheeks is Trophy Wife. I cannot tell you how pissed I was to have bought Trophy Wife only to realize I already had it my Subversive palette.
I just love going through your old videos. You’re one of my favorites for sure. You’re passionate while also being so entertaining and low key hilarious. ❤
Such a fun video! Love your takes on PMG palettes! I only own VI and VIII and those are icons in my collection 😅 But I agree, the first three have a different feeling and it transcends time - I wasn't in the makeup space, when these first dropped, but the when I saw them in her lineup I thought to myself - this is something special. It seems almost... less polished? More artistic, emotional, passionate. Even the stoicism of Sublime is so palpable. The first trilogy is truly a masterpiece! And speaking of Subliminal I think of it as a Zen garden 😊
Thank you! I’m definitely biased towards VI as well 🤣💕 It was exciting when the first three dropped, and to see them in person for the first time!? 😭 Truly a sight to behold, and I believe that they still possess that magic.
Loving your videos lately that focus on older palettes. It's always a good reminder to pull out and appreciate what we have and reflecting on shifts in a brand over time.
My friend and I were having this conversation literally a few days ago, and you just expressed our conclusions far more eloquently (and succinctly) than we managed. Heartily agreed on all points: the shift to a more consumer-oriented product line has been understandable even as it’s been disappointing to those of us who have been around for awhile. Even if it ends up being a separate subset of PMG as a whole, I hold out some hope that we’ll see future iterations of that creativity and artistry that drew us in to begin with. Until then, though, I’ve mostly been holding off on mothership purchases and will continue to until something interesting comes up.
Subliminal was my first PML palette. I was so mesmerized by all the shades and it remains on of my favorite palettes to this day. Also have No 3 which I just adore. These palettes are just so good.
Original three = pure magic 💫 And yes, for me Sublime is 100% a dark, moody rose deconstructed. When I look at the palette I see those moody pictures with very dark green or almost black blurred background and misty roses in all it's glory, pink ones, more peachy ones, even the white ones and a lot of dark green leaves and stems. That's what I see and that's the rose theme I love and want on my eyes.
I got Sublime via a fluke. When Pat's powder blushes first came out I ordered two of them. When the box arrived, I opened it and there sat Sublime in all its splendor, and no blushes. My jaw dropped! Customer service told me to just keep it. That was quite an acquisition! Love all three of these palettes discussed today!
I love hearing your perspective on PML as a whole. You genuinely love the brand BUT if there’s something you don’t like, you’re real with us. You have a more level headedness to you where I feel as though I can trust you, your experiences, and your opinions. Very insightful.
I agree the trio is iconic 😍. I only have subversive out of the original trio (i do have divine rose 1 & 2) but i definitely need to add Sublime & Bronze Seduction one day. I cant wait to see this eye look tutorial soon 😍 gorgeous
Great video !! I loved her first 6 palettes. I really liked Divine Rose after Midnight Sun, the Star Wars collection and her first holiday quads. But Divine Rose became something different for the brand like Pillow Talk did for Charlotte Tilbury. Everything became related to Pillow Talk for awhile. Unfortunately, PMG has done a lot of pinks since Divine Rose. Don’t get me wrong, they were absolutely stunning palettes but a lot of the same. I haven’t bought any palettes since Divine Rose 2. I’ve been waiting for something to come out like the first 6. They were so unique and different than any other brands. I’ve been hoping for a dark moody palette. If anyone can pull off a palette like that, it’s her !! I always love watching your Pat videos. You create such beautiful looks that I try to recreate. Keep them coming !! 😊
Thank you! Yes the palette up until Divine Rose II held that magic. And like you said, the Divine Rose concept overtook the brand, as they saw it wildly successful with the release of VII. And the hoopla around that drop when it was only available on the Selfridges app 😅
Loved your comments on this chapter of recent makeup history! This video is fascinating and really took me back to buying the first 4 Motherships in one go… the excitement of waiting for the post that day. It certainly was a huge learning curve, with the mattes in particular. In fact, last time I tried Mothership VI I used the wrong brush and wasn’t happy with my look at all. Now you’ve inspired me to get out the first 3, this time with a good selection of fluffy brushes! 😊xx
I came a little late to the Mothership party...Just purchased Mothership 1 Subliminal palette...I have dubbed it my "grown-folks palette"...It is such a beautiful and yet understated palette... Its tones and textures are just so versatile and they work so well together even on my medium-deep skin tone...Those cool neutrals make my brown eyes "pop!"... Thanks for your insights! 😊
I could spend all day by looking on your videos about PMG 😅 I really hope we won't see downfall of this brand. I still consider her formulas as the best ones, never go wrong with her shadows, no matter what I do. Breaks my heart that we see this strange shift in her brand, really hope she will make it.
I, too, agree with Brian. The 1st three Mothership pallets are the most iconic. I, in fact, have to repurchase one of the first 3 as someone stole one of mine. Very upsetting, of course, because of the price but we'll worth having in my makeup collection.
Wow ❤ what an amazing video Alicia 🎉 yes 🙌 her first 3 OG palettes were groundbreaking 💥 I bought the Mothership 3 because of you and your reviews 👏 you are the Pat’s Reviews Queen 👑
What’s amazing is that these shadows still hold years later Also I went down the path of indie brands for awhile and went back to mainstream…the quality just wasn’t quite there Inconsistent
Thank you for bringing the first three. Mothership palettes I will buy them I have bought Natasha Denona and they are pricey too I have asked on the internet what the difference you explained that she Natasha is on board with eyeshadow formula but Natasha Denona had a 200 dollar eyeshadow but pat McGrath is worth the black and bronze case and I applaud pat McGrath for the bezel set mirror so yes she is worth the 140 dollars with tax I know pat McGrath started out with Cover girl
PML first pallet is my favorite. That was the only cool toned pallet that actually worked for my deep complexion. I've been into the brand every since then.
These were the first ones I bought after using her holiday palette. Though sometimes I find them boring and not sure what to do differently with them. When that happens I go back and watch RUclips to rekindle my love for them. They are beautiful.
I gotta say that even though I LoVe me some indie shadows it can be tough to find brands with consistent quality and I also have noticed (not sure if this is the case for others) that my indie shadows in general (not all) don’t have the shelf life that Pat has. They seem to go off or not be as good within the actual timeline whereas I feel Pat and Natasha can get older than they say is “good” and still be totally great. I do have some terra moons and devinah shades that have stood the test of time but I won’t name names of the brands that didn’t 😂
Hi Alicia, I enjoyed watching this video, well said, regarding mothership 1,2,3,palettes, My peak of curiosity about mother pat’s palettes is with mothership 8, the colour story gave me VA VA VOOM vibes, I love it, I haven’t purchased as of yet , mainly due to her prices, here in Australia they are priced around $206.00 and mothership 11 is $231.00 at Sephora and at the moment that’s out of my budget. Love Katherine xoxo
She already raised her prices last year. at least in France. +10€ for the Motherships. I know because I went to buy my Mothership V the day the price went up.
This was an amazing well put together video. As someone who has rarely worn makeup and just turned 40 sticking with these unique and timeless palettes. I love a shimmer for a quick eye look. will try to pick a few of these when they have a sale.or when i am browsing through Marshalls or TJMAXX ❤😊😅
I love you! Thank you for talking about them ❤ I have them and I just want to hear your opinion on them after all the release vibe. I just love all the motherships I know there is a lot of drama but I focus on the products…. Lord I love each one of them, the experience you get just from touching the packaging, the colors ❤ and all at the same time.
I only own #I, VI, V, VII sold VI. I will say that Decadence is my favorite. I'm not afraid to use it like some of the others. They are absolutely beautiful on me. I do want to get II and III. But not until I use what I have or she has another amazing sale
Brian was absolutely right! In addition...At one time the beauty industry catch term was "Holy Grail" ... Nearly every new or popular was considered "Holy Grail" until PMG dropped, and she deemed her product as "Iconic " ... When her trilogy palettes dropped they lived up to the definition of "Iconic " ... "Iconic" never meant popular or best-selling but instead something so superior in quality and either rarely duplicated or not easily duplicated...And at one time...That is what PMG was giving
Yes! I remember how “Holy Grail” was the go-to topic at the time time, and they industry was not ready! The quality couldn’t be replicated, as well as the experience 😮💨
Oh yaaaaasssss!!! I have mothership one but not two and three (I do have a couple others from way later) I have lusted after 2&3 but am currently trying to love the makeup I have. So I am very here for this 😂🎉🎉🎉
I think BPM (before Pat McGrath) we were all hiding in our browns and pastels! From my perspective she launched a new era of luxury beauty that was relatable. We could see her looks regularly - Dior, et al - and it must also be noted that the face of modeling has really only changed post Cindy Crawford. I remember before she was big, and nearly all models had that Barbie-eque appearance. Many were blonde and blue-eyed with pale-ish skin (or perhaps a tan) - how things have changed! And with that influx of diversity our makeup had to evolve too. Except we were hanging onto those sand dune colors like they were going to save us from something. lol 😂 I think this new supermodel look (as I recall she was referred to as an “exotic” beauty) ushered in the need for a more diverse color context in the makeup industry. For the first time ever we had fashion icons hiring talented people (like Pat) to make a wider variety of women look their glam best. And who better! She (Pat) is a color theory genius. I think we see that so much in those first palettes.. I believe she wanted to be the first true haute / luxury brand that catered exclusively to a wide range of skin tones. She is an unsung goddess in that respect from my POV! Eventually when your business expands it becomes necessary and intelligent business move to also expand the offerings that appeal to a broader audience. And here we are. I also have to add, I am super pale (Scandinavian skin tone w/blue eyes ) and love ALL of these stunning motherships ! I do have to be thoughtful about how I wear them, but wow what a product. And I adore that I’m wearing part of our social evolution history.
Yes yes YES! The point you made about diversifying the shades to reach wider skin tones from a haute/luxury perspective is significant. I do hope Pat decides to write an autobiography, or someone do a biography, because I would love to learn more about her work behind the scenes. How she was able to conjure up these ideas, and present them from a high fashion perspective.
I noticed in a few episodes of "Pose" that Angel wore Pat McGrath (you esp. can't mistake VR Nectar) and it took me out of the moment completely because I was alive back then, and we DID NOT have eyshadows like that 😂
Goodness Alicia, i wish that i could still wear them, i gave them all away my Mothership palettes due to much more sensitive eyes (53 here now). But did i have fun with these very special shadows when it was still possible? Yesssssssss!!!!! I love a good Pat McGrath video, and you are our Pat here, dear Alicia, love your eyeshadow look!!!🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩People who might read my comment: the first 3 palettes are so, so good, for me, together with palette 7 the best!!! And these astral quads indeed, i had Nocturnal Nirvana, using not all shades at once with lighter skintone and ligher eyes is advice 😂but i did never see and eyeshadow quad with colours so special, although not super nice looking on me. Further something with a rose, from that same year, a quad, there was a difficult shade in it i believe right corner up in the quad, used glitter glue than, but wow that was my most loved makeup a few years ago!!! If you don't have sensitive eyes get these first 3 if you can, i agree! There is eyeshadow enough, i am more now into brands like Suqqu and Chantecaille and others. But do i think sometimes about colouring my eyes with the McGrath shadows, yes good memories!!!😍Super video dear Alicia, how do you Americans call that, a blast from the past, i do not know exactly, but loved loved loved to watch!!!!😘😘😘😘😘😘
Great analysis Alicia. I have said it before and I will it again - I just don’t see Pat in her brand anymore. Pandemic or not ND is still very much her brand and the driving force of her brand. Pat is invisible in her brand - as a personality, but also as a driving artistic force.
*le sigh* 😔 truer words have never been spoken friend !! It’s heartbreaking that Mother Pat now answers to her investors 😢 her creative spark is no more ! 😩😭 & like you’ve stated neither is her “presence” 🤷🏻♀️
Agreed, and one of the reasons I feel the magic has disappeared. And why I also look forward to Natasha’s releases because as you said, she still play a critical role in all her releases.
I would argue the release of Bronze Seduction was the beginning of her golden age. I feel like that palette is really what got the people who were on the fence and kind of like "it's too much to spend on eyeshadow" to bite the bullet and finally give in to experience her greatness and those who didn't know who she was, to take notice. People lost their minds over that colour story and the special shades in those palettes after seeing her instagram tutorials applying Rose Gold 005 over Blitz Flame or Astral Luna Gold all over the lid and seeing them sparkle with that soft blur filter? Historic. After that, every major release was mayhem and chaos until Divine Rose II launched as the palette to enter into her decline with.
Those were the real-real days when it came to Pat McGrath. Subversive? Be still my heart! For me, it not only goes neck in neck with my other favorite Mothership, Midnight Sun, but I actually enjoy using them TOGETHER in a look. As for the other two, I can see myself one day perhaps getting Subliminal even though I almost never use electric blue eyeshadow because my eye color is blue-green.
Sublime was my first introduction to Pat McGrath when sonjdradeluxe made a video to recreate one of the runway looks from PM where that green was applied sort of like an extremely thick eyeliner rocked my world lol! It was my fav until Submersive came which is my ultimate PM fav.
I agree have the first three, plus (in order of preference and usage) moonlit seduction, midnight sun, divine rose 2, heutopian dreams. Don’t have divine rose 1, bronze seduction (shocker since I love Natasha denona bronze and glam) and the new sunlit seduction. Not tempted by bronze and sunlight in the least. Maybe, just maybe will buy divine rose 1, but even if I don’t I feel my collection is complete. Alicia, what makes you think it’s supply chain issues?
hi! i know Alicia won't have this issue! but you, hooded and oily lid sisters, what do you do to make special shades last? i've tried everything, urban decay, nyx glitter glue, even the intenifeyes wand... but they wont last over 1 hour.... help this girl out!!! 😢😢😢
Great minds Alicia 😅 I bought mothership 1 last too 😊 it was too cool leaning for my warm lover tastes & it’s probably the one MS palette that I did find dare I say intimidating 😮💨😱😅🙌🤣 my first MS was my beloved decadence which many found intimidating upon its release & many to this day still find decadence intimidating 😅 but I didn’t & once I used it 😩🙌🤩🤯 man oh man the flood gates opened & I was HOOKED !! 😂 I LOVE subliminal & subversive & I created the most stunning looks with those 2 😅 then I caved & grabbed MS 1; I will use her !! Plus now I’m no longer scared of it 😝 & I’m more confident in my eye shadow skills, blending & placement skills & have great tools (Sonia g; Wayne goss brushes etc) 😎 I will use that stunning blue shade & smoke it out !! 😁 on my pic on here I’m wearing nocturnal nirvana (that look stunning to this day my ALL time fave look I’ve ever worn from mother Pat) so I’m not scared of the colors or blues ❤😂 anywho I’ve said all of this to say that Mother Pats holy trinity; as you’ve called them will forever be ICONIC & memorable to us that own & have used these palettes ! ❤🤩 ps … just had to add that I own ALL the MS’s & I have a large collection; BUT every time I wear Mother Pat; I get compliments & questioned on what I’m wearing & “who” did my makeup 🥲😆 & when I say me I’ve been asked if I am an MUA !!! 😳🤔😱🤯 …. It’s insane !! 😆 I’m def NOT an MUA but I feel like one whenever I use Mother Pat & yes to those first 3 ALL astral shades quads !! Ugh also iconic !!!
Oooo Nocturnal Nirvana! Those quads were simply stunning, and one of Pat’s best releases. And the effect the shadows have deliver that exact sentiment- the MUA vibes!
That’s a great question, and happy to see that @kr882 and @adrian-rx8rg experienced a consistent formula. I could only assume it’s because those palettes were already produced before major supply chain issues took place.
Yes.
Yes ma’am turn those heads
Yes, they were almost literal magic
I know what you mean!!! ⚡️😍⚡️
I love this! The power of makeup, it is an art-form and it is transformative.
@@sikay6340 Thank you!
When the three original motherships were still newer they were even sold in the Chicago Art Institute! Clearly icon status!

THANK YOU for writing Desiree’s name: I was trying to google it and could not for the life of me find it 😭
Agreed, and I haven’t seen anything like this release since!
I feel lucky to have been a part of such an iconic moment in the makeup industry. Pat's mothership concept changed the way I think about makeup application. The "holy trinity" gives me all the feels. I love me a good nostalgic Pat video, thank you Alicia!
Thank you, Mariam!!
Yes! I love taking deep dives, and will be happy to film more content like this 🥰
Yes, the situation is I think more dire than how it appears, and is effecting several if not all industries.
Could you explain perhaps more? How/ why did this issue actually occur? Since corona?
The BLUE & The GREEN of Pat is still the BEST in the market !
The OGs!
Lovely video! I’m with you on instead of being angry that the brand shifted, I go to the old motherships and feel inspired by them again! ❤
Yes! Always happy to revisit those beauties 😮💨
Subversive is a whole vibe and definitely one of my favourite Motherships ever! I really enjoy your videos when you use palettes you already own. It never gets old revisiting products already in your stash. It’s a chance to fall in love and appreciate them all over again 😊.
Subversive was my first Mothership too! I couldn’t believe I paid that much for a palette. That color story is absolutely phenomenal!🎉🎉🎉
Subversive. I agree that it’s Pat’s most iconic palette. I still think about it now and then, maybe I’ll pick it up someday. Looking forward to your updated looks video, something full-on grunge-runway would be stunning.💜
Oh yes! I should also check out her runway looks for inspo!
You brought up so many good points and I agree completely. I truly hope Pat creates something as spectacular as the first three motherships in the near future. I haven’t bought a mothership palette since Divine Rose II. In the meantime I’ll be anxiously awaiting your six looks videos! 💖
Thank you, Jill! Crossing fingers that Pat can create something like her first three.
Yes! It remember that period of time when it was out of stock!
Exactly! The cocktail possibilities!
Beautifully said
Adrian…this tool my break away 😮💨 My goodness, I want to create a vision board now 😭
Oh my... *this* is what makeup is for me!! Moving something deep inside ones creative heart!! Thank you so much for sharing this 😍
Wow, love the poetry!
Yes! When I saw them the first time in person, it was a moment! ⚡️⚡️⚡️
Thank you
Thank you so much! Despite the changes, Pat’s impact remains significant, and if I ever feel nostalgic I just revisit her original three.
Co-sign! Her first three Motherships are some of her best work! Mothership III still gets compliments whenever I
wear it.
I bought subliminal during a past sale and have zero regrets! It’s way more beautiful in person!
@@kristinaturner7318 oooh good to know! Thank you-I think I’d really enjoy it but just gotta wait for a good deal 💜
“Punk Rock 90s curation“ absolutely!!! It’s all about the art of the palette as a whole, packaging and all!
I can justify owning each palette through an annual purchase, since I’m not buying eyeshadow throughout the year.
Yes! It feels unique, especially when packaged in black lacquer!
Owning the Iconic Motherships
♥️if you know … YOU JUST KNOW😍
That's what I was coming to say LOL, because I KNOW! ❤
DAS IT!! ⚡️⚡️⚡️
Subliminal was my first pallette. It's how i fell in love with the brand. I love recreating your look with the blue shade as an eyeliner. It's one of the few look I recreate over and over. Dang how many years ago did you post that 3 look video.
Ooo yeah! That’s one of my favs, and happy to know that you like it! I think we need a revamp!
Gigabyte on the cheeks is Trophy Wife. I cannot tell you how pissed I was to have bought Trophy Wife only to realize I already had it my Subversive palette.
🤣 Does Trophy Wife lean more true gold, or does it all look the same when applied?
I am crazy for poetic descriptions. Thank you!
You upload, I drop everything! I’m so excited for this!
Right there with you!
Thank you, friend! I was exited about uploading this one 🥰
Original three = pure magic 💫
And yes, for me Sublime is 100% a dark, moody rose deconstructed.
WOW friend that’s AMAZING !!!! 😩🙌😆🤣😱🤩 I always wish they’d do that type of mishap with my packages lol 😅 so happy you loved the palette !
Whoa! What a happy mistake!! And for it to be Sublime!
I have Decadence and Midnight sun. The first 3 are the only other ones I really, really want.
Those will cocktail with IV + VI so well!
Omg one of the best videos ive seen! Your looks are goreous! Cant wait to see more! ❤
I could spend all day by looking on your videos about PMG 😅 I really hope we won't see downfall of this brand. I still consider her formulas as the best ones, never go wrong with her shadows, no matter what I do. Breaks my heart that we see this strange shift in her brand, really hope she will make it.
I’m looking forward to the looks you create with the first 3 motherships 🤩😊
Yes! It will be a welcomed distraction from all the holiday releases 🫠
This is the push I needed. I’m getting my Subversive palette out and recreating your look!❤
Would love to see this for 4, 5 and six too! Love this
Great video! I love Pat Mcgrath. I have all of her Mothership pallets thanks to you and your phenomenal content!😊
Yeah, can’t wait for the six looks what an amazing video love it. Thanks so much. I’m gonna pull out my mother ship number one now.
I appreciate the way you explained the palettes❤thanks for such an in-depth review😊
Thank you, Celeste!
Ooh ooh, can't wait for the 6 look tutorial ❤
I definitely have MS II on my wishlist. 😊
You will love it!!
PML first pallet is my favorite. That was the only cool toned pallet that actually worked for my deep complexion. I've been into the brand every since then.
Yes, it looked cool instead of ashy!
These were the first ones I bought after using her holiday palette. Though sometimes I find them boring and not sure what to do differently with them. When that happens I go back and watch RUclips to rekindle my love for them. They are beautiful.
Yes, and I need to use them more often myself!
Yes the Australian prices are nuts, and as much as love the Motherships, I would definitely wait for a sale. Thank you!
She already raised her prices last year. at least in France. +10€ for the Motherships. I know because I went to buy my Mothership V the day the price went up.
Excellent commentary Alicia❣️
Hey gurl hey.....i am sooo glad you went back to the 1st 3
When all else fails, the Holy Trinity brings me back!
Wonderful and inspiring video ❤
I'm gonna do "one week - one mothership" with all my palettes. 🎉
Rose Dusk from Subliminal is the blush of my dreams!
Please do 6 looks for Sublime!! Recently fell in love with it after having it for a while.
Oh yaaaaasssss!!! I have mothership one but not two and three (I do have a couple others from way later) I have lusted after 2&3 but am currently trying to love the makeup I have. So I am very here for this 😂🎉🎉🎉
I loved this vidgeo! Now I need to play with these Motherships…
LOL BPM was us hiding in the warm orange, brown, and red tone trend that lasted FAR TOO LONG afterwards
@@godzandheros yasss! The reds!!! 🤢 😂
You make me want to buy all the palettes 🫠
I noticed in a few episodes of "Pose" that Angel wore Pat McGrath (you esp. can't mistake VR Nectar) and it took me out of the moment completely because I was alive back then, and we DID NOT have eyshadows like that 😂
WHEW! When the light hits, it’s dazzling!
Yes, I have two subliminal❤️
So lovely!
Sublime = deconstructed rose
Love that!
I have close to 300 palettes and the mothership packaging is the best of the bunch
The eye look from the other video 🤩
Yes! And my apologies for being backed up on my highlighter comments. I was going to say it was a surprise!!
Here for this!! 🙌🙌🙌🙌🙌
Woohoo!!
That’s true! Sometimes it’s a matter of choosing what looks good on us in the end.
Ironically, Bronze Seduction is my least favorite mothership. I know it tends to be everyone’s favorite. My fav is always Decadence.
Yes friend !!! Yes on Decadence !! ❤❤❤🎉 that palette is soooo slept on !! Decadence was my first MS !
Decadence and its crowned jewel box was a moment for sure 😮💨
Those arms ❤❤
For real though!
😆 thank you!!
hi! i know Alicia won't have this issue! but you, hooded and oily lid sisters, what do you do to make special shades last? i've tried everything, urban decay, nyx glitter glue, even the intenifeyes wand... but they wont last over 1 hour.... help this girl out!!! 😢😢😢
How about mac’s paint pot?
Inglot primer that @Mariam A uses
i'll try to check those out! it is funny as it only happens with the special shades.... did i say funny? i meant heartbreaking!! wish me luck!!!
I finally have all three i bought 1 in dec and 2/3 in June and July
They’re incredible im loving it
Yuuuuus!!!!
I have 1 & 2. Now you've made me reconsider 3 😬🤣🤣🤣
👀👀👀 3 is like ⚡️⚡️⚡️
Great minds Alicia 😅 I bought mothership 1 last too 😊 it was too cool leaning for my warm lover tastes & it’s probably the one MS palette that I did find dare I say intimidating 😮💨😱😅🙌🤣 my first MS was my beloved decadence which many found intimidating upon its release & many to this day still find decadence intimidating 😅 but I didn’t & once I used it 😩🙌🤩🤯 man oh man the flood gates opened & I was HOOKED !!
Do you know if you buy her first palettes now, are the special shades the same as they were when they were released or are they reformulated?
I’ve repeated purchased sublime and subversive and they were the same.
I’ve repurchased Subliminal as well and didn’t notice any change in formula.
That’s a great question, and happy to see that @kr882 and @adrian-rx8rg experienced a consistent formula. I could only assume it’s because those palettes were already produced before major supply chain issues took place.
