IN DEFENSE OF THE IMPACT SITE: It's kind of like an area to chill out and try recovering your pikmin populations due to the bullshit the game throws at you later on, to remedy pikmin 1's difficulty a little bit
I respect that, but i just think it's kind of boring. Whenever I go back for the one treasure, I spend the rest of the day restocking my Pikmin supply, but I still have trouble filling out the day. I don't like going back afterward because i try to challenge myself to take less days each time.

Could not possibly disagree more about the Forest Navel; I feel like it did the best job in the first two games of using many types together, and its two boss fights are among the most iconic in the series. Would also disagree that Perplexing Pool is the last level before Wistful Wilds; I'd give that distinction to the Valley of Repose, since most of it requires blues to access, and the caves are harder. I also like Final Trial and the landing site. Sure, they're small, but for the one or two days you're there, they're interesting enough; the boss fights take long enough that the few days there are still full imo
All very respectable opinions! Personally, I've just never been too much of a fan of Pikmin 1 (probably bc 2 was my first game lol), and I feel like that rubbed off on me for this video.
@@Shootkapow Fair enough; I still liked the video. I also played 2 first (and never got past the Forest Navel), but when I came back to it recently, I found that I liked 1's time scarcity over 2's pikmin scarcity. 5:45 There is at least one new enemy in the Formidable Oak- the watery blowhog's only appearance in Pikmin 3. I always hated that stage. That is probably my least favorite of all 3 games.
I remember the forest navel so well, somehow spent more days there than distant spring. I'll never forget going into that open room blindly as a kid with my dad watching and the beady long legs slaming into half my army ruining everything, pops was laughing at me for the rest of that day.
Man, some very 1-dimensional thinking with how level design works. The purpose of the gate in front of the emperor bulblax is to give you a brief amount of time to have a "what the hell is that moment". Will the boss wake up as soon as the fence is opened? Do you have to get close to wake it up? If there were no fence there, the player would just assume the trigger is to walk up to it, but the fence adds a layer of uncertainty as well as giving you that "what the hell" time.
@@Shootkapow It's one of those subtly clever things that you don't realise unless you really look into it, and considering the music also starts to get a bit whacky the closer you get to him, the tension is built up a lot for the "what the hell" moment you get whilst breaking down the fence
Assuming you haven't done the caves ranking yet i have a suggestion to massively improve Subterranean Complex. (It literally took it from dreaded to A teir fun to me) Assuming the issue is all the death from explosions, try doing a white pikmin heist. For each floor leave all pikmin at the ship and have a captain run around using the careening dirgibugs to blow up all the hazards they can, if needed use yellows to kill the electric beetles, and then have white pikmin carry everything (treasures only) because they are faster than all enemies and so they will only die by running into electricity (which is the point if the initial running around with the captain). Sometimes the solution to making a cave fun is a strategy change because the basic purple pikmin murder spree used for most of the game doesn't work. (This is also why Submerged Castle only lets you bring blues, to force a new strategy)
that's an interesting idea, but for me the big problem with complex is that you have to run around with the captains and defuse everything. if you don't even get to use the pikmin in half of the cave of a pikmin game, then it's a bad cave.
Extremely good takes, actually. I hate the blob level more than words can comprehend, but you made a valid point for why it isn’t the absolute worst. Thin ice, but ice nonetheless lol. My brother is the big Pikmin guy so I’ll have to show it to him and get his opinions too haha
don't have any big thoughts on any particular locations atm but wanted to ramble a little, it helps in the algorithm and whatnot. the greatest overall strength shared by every pikmin location is how *small* they all are. the massive-feeling swamp of the distant spring/perplexing pool is like... a puddle, basically? playing pikmin really makes you appreciate tiny, seemingly insignificant things irl and the level design is no small part of that. say what you want about forest navel but that water bottle made me feel things when I was like 10. it's a mixture of an appreciation of small, beautiful things and a sense of horror as you really get a feel for how tiny olimar is compared to the world he's found himself on. here's an entire man whose brain is just like yours, whose civilization isn't much different from yours, but whose body is hardly larger than an ant. to him, a bottle cap is an ancient artifact worth as much as a year's salary. he's so small, and yet through his actions and especially his journal and piklopedia entires he becomes so relatable. he's just a normal dude but smaller.
A brief comment on the final trail’s area music: I think the music was made in the way it is as a means to represent olimars waining sanity that is still making him go on (the whimsy feel of some parts of the theme) but olimar is still only barely sane after the countless days on this hostile planet with only small plant people to keep him “company” (the “dun-dun-dun-dun-dun-dun” loop of the theme) The theme has more of an emphasis on its whimsy side than its “dwindling sanity” side because this is oilmars final ship part he can, and wants to, get so he feels enthusiastic that he can soon return home, he just needs to get his life savings first then he can leave.
