I see in the comments like myself our peers are noticing Dorados rub wound/blister has improved greatly Vic. Lovely to see that.:)
Thank you, it's been going in the right direction but too early to predict the ultimate outcome.
Awesome video you such great job taking care of your fish 💯🤙🏾
We appreciate your support through the years, Richard!
That bridge connection between the 2 tanks is insane. I’ve seen it done with tiny 10 gallon tanks - but nothing along this scale.
Thank you. There is a video on how this tank was built. It's an experiment of sorts, I guess. Time will show. It's been running problem free 6 years.
@@Fish-Story Well sounds good if its lasted 6 years. Touch wood.
Just purchased my first Eclipse sun catfish! For my 150g. Love to see more about them! Awesome tank!
Glad to hear. Happy keeping and learning!
Always enjoy the 'Story of' videos you make😄. Funny, I literally made one more Fish Story-style story of video just yesterday so this new story to follow the next day is all the more appreciable:)
15-20 years old! Congrats, keep it going.😃
One thing you appear to have left out is how they were overeating and getting very fat in the 4500 gallon/17K liter. That will always be what I most associate them with.🤣
Thank you, and yes great memory and attention again to our humble ops, I appreciate it. Yes, I should have reviewed our thread on sun cats before filming this video to remind myself of more noteworthy occurrences with these.
You're very welcome. Always makes me glad to be of help:)
Good thinking on reviewing the threads before making story videos. I think some of the past story videos could have benefitted from that too: ie, the June 18 2020 piraiba story video left out Kuma's major events of getting half-eaten sometime in 2017, killing a zebra shovelnose in February 2018, eating a couple of walking catfish and needing to be transferred in June 2018, and unsuccessfully trying to eat a red tail/surubi hybrid in April 2020.
Do you remember by the way how they slimmed down? I don't recall reading about them being fasted or anything, did they go on a fast after a transfer to their current tank?
Can't wait for the next story video, whatever fish it is about!
Thank you again. If I didn't mention any of those things in the Kuma video, I assume I must have deliberately decided to focus on something else, but I really I don't remember. There have been more than one video perhaps on Kuma's stories. But listing them with dates is super helpful, thank you! ... The sun cats weights wax and wane. One factor was switch from cheap aquaculture pellets to the top NLS pellets and feeding less of them and them being 100x better digestible.
👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿
I have about an 8 inch sun cat abd hes a beast. Got him with a tank i bought from somebody and didnt even know what it was back then. 2 years later he might be my favorite fish. I have now. Even pushes off the 12 inch midas male and 14 inch oscar lol
Nice and interesting, thank you. Yes, the sun cats of size often stop being shy and can be pushy at feeding times as needed. I bet though he still doesn't associate you with feed and only reacts when the feed is in the water. How long have your midas and oscar have been together and in what size tank? I'd not expect them to be able to live together in smaller tanks for long but I am looking to learn as I am a novice with cichlids.
@@Fish-Story 210 gallon. 2 years or so also had a jaguar in there but midas is only 2 years old now I think. Jaguar is in his own 55 gallon for now. He is also about 3 years old 10 inches or so. Started to fight with the midas lol
@@Triclone8706 Thank you. Glad to learn male midas can be tolerant of other cichlids in smaller tanks, like an oscar, even if for some time.
Dorado Catfish looks better since the reverse waterflow implementation.
Lovely to see isn’t it👍
Thank you, it's been going in the right direction but too early to predict the ultimate outcome.
Eclipse cats I had s couple a while ago but sold them got 2 wood cats instead and a upside down catfish he's awsome he surfs thr front glass when I feed the tank he cums up 4 food .but my other tank houses my gulper
Another great video! What are the long, torpedo shaped white/albino fish?
Thank you. That's Aral barbel Luciobarbus dendiculatum.
@@Fish-Story thank you! You have a lot of beautiful fish!!!
Are these the same kind of black ear that you moved into the 4500 Vic or were they a kind of Paroon, as I’m wondering how big they may get.
These are sun catfish Horabagrus brachysoma. They belong to a different family from black ear shark catfish Pangasius larnaudii, who indeed share the genus with paroon sharks Panasius sanitwongsei. I talk about this in the video but maybe not clearly enough, sorry. I also did mention in the video the sun cats can reach 21-22 inches tip to tip.
Can I ask what medications you use? Do you use any of the following: Paraguard, copper power, malachite green, praziquantel, API General Cure?
I bought malachite green because my fish are flashing - but a bit cautious to use it - as some websites say it could be carcinogenic.
Out of your list I've only ever used MG and prazi. MG is potentially carcinogenic to humans, yes. It is also harsh on fish at therapeutic concentrations. I'd only use it on hardy fish, if on any. Since you don't know what is irritating the skin of your fish, I'd try first a broad action general antiparasitic, like the Microbe Lift Broad Spectrum Disease Treatment, which is based on formalin with a tiny pinch of MG. If you have sensitive fish, I'd half the label dosage or go even lower. My standard go to meds are ML BSDT, Dimilin X, prazi and metro, epsom salt and table salt.
@@Fish-Story Thank you so much. I have never even heard of MLBSDT. I will ask my local fish store if they stock it. And see if its right for the fish I keep, if it is - I’ll use it instead of the MG. Thanks for the warning about Malachite Green. I think I might give that a miss for now and see if a UV might lessen the flashing symptoms in the meantime.
@@Whaleydavey Glad to be of little help if any. We buy ML BSDT online by gallons.
1st? 😂❤
I’m wondering if you could help me out. I own an eclipse catfish as well only one though. It hasn’t eaten in months and sometimes he’s rolling on his side and today he was floating on his back. However, it’s still alive and now chilling on the bottom. I’m wondering what’s wrong with it. He’s in a 108 gallon tank with a heater set to 25°c / 77°F
I also have a 1000 gallon pool indoors but the temperature is 29°c without a heater. Is it advisable to move him to the large pool in hopes of him regaining normal behaviour?
YT is a hard place to ID health issues in fish but we could try.
This sounds bad. I'd not move the fish until you have better guesses on what might be wrong. What have you been feeding it? How long have you had it? What are your water test results?
@@Fish-Story I ended up moving it yesterday. I’ve had it since 2021. I’ve been feeding it saki hikari growth (koi food) and the occasional clam meat. I think the nitrate was too high as some baby koi were with it in a tank. Nitrate poisoning perhaps? 🤔 I appreciate your reply thanks 🙏
*Edit*
I forgot to add that I had some rocks from a hardware store which may have been poisonous and they were in the tank with him. Since they were added in, the catfish’s behaviour changed. I’ve removed the rocks months ago in hopes that his normal behaviour would return but there was no positive result.
@@mrtings The diet sounds good. I was fearing a vitamin deficiency as such lethargy is typical of that. ... Long term high nitrates can affect digestion in fish. While we cannot measure nitrate by home liquid test kits correctly, we can measure it in relative terms if nothing else changed in water composition. Nitrate is subject to much interference from other singly charged common anions, e.g., chloride anion. ... It sounds like the rocks affected the catfish but how - we'd need to know what rocks they were, both their natural composition and possibly contamination.
@@Fish-Story I went to the website of the store where the rocks were purchased from. The name of the rocks are “Yukon Snow River Pebbles” but I realized they aren’t from Yukon at all and they come from China. I couldn’t find anything on the website about coatings or if they’ve been sprayed or treated with anything. I just worry because I’ve had the catfish for some years now and I’d hate to see it die under my care. It was so strong and healthy and now it’s very weak and you can see the outline of it’s bones through its skin
@@mrtings The purpose of the rocks stated on the package or online could clarify this. Does it say that it is for aquarium use or compatible with live fish? Or it could be for other decorative purpose, in which case it'd be not a good idea to use it in a fish tank. Can't rule out a mere coincidence either but at least there is something to research on the rocks to possibly discard this hypothesis.
