Oppenheimer is a 2023 epic biographical drama film written, produced, and directed by Christopher Nolan.
It follows the life of J. Robert Oppenheimer, the American theoretical physicist who helped develop the first nuclear weapons during World War II. Based on the 2005 biography American Prometheus by Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin, the film dramatizes Oppenheimer's studies, his direction of the Los Alamos Laboratory and his 1954 security hearing.
Cillian Murphy stars as Oppenheimer, alongside Robert Downey Jr. as the United States Atomic Energy Commission member Lewis Strauss. The ensemble supporting cast includes Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Florence Pugh, Josh Hartnett, Casey Affleck, Rami Malek, and Kenneth Branagh.

I wish Christopher Nolan could go back to the days of the psychological thrillers like Memento, Insomnia and The Prestige. I'm surprised no one has sent you a paid request to review The Prestige.

The old days are gone. That includes the people who were once great. Nolan lives off of his legacy as he ruins it. He's not good and these movies aren't good. But that should have been a red flag from the start considering they wanted to merge this movie with The Barbie movie. Can you imagine the studios behind Saving Private Ryan wanting to associate themselves with Barbie?

The Nolan fanboys really praised this film blindly... before it even came out.
I'll just stick to Peter Kuran's "Trinity and Beyond."
There are two similar films called "Fat Man and Little Boy" and "Day One"

I thought the movie was good, but there is absolutely no re-watch factor to it and it's a movie I'd never want to own. It's just a one-time watch. There is no scenes/moments to look forward to on re-watch, and it's not a movie you can dissect/analyze like something like Inception, Interstellar, The Prestige, and even The Dark Knight Rises (I'll get to in a second). I feel the movie is going to be the same movie on a fifth watch as it was the first watch. And there is no "fun" factor to it. The Batman doesn't have much action in it and is a dialogue heavy movie, but it's still a "fun" movie.
I think I would put Oppenheimer as my least favorite Nolan movie. And that's where The Dark Knight Rises comes in. At least with The Dark Knight Rises, I can dissect the movie. I learn new stuff. Like the third or fourth watch, I finally noticed that Selina Kyle's mugshot was taken in Detroit, Michigan. So she has bounced around and wasn't always in Gotham. Then there is something like the love interests and they flip by the end of the movie. Miranda/Talia starts out good or we are supposed to think is good while Selina Kyle/Catwoman starts out bad, but by the end of the movie, Miranda/Talia ends up being bad and then Selina/Catwoman turns out to be good. Plus once you know that Miranda/Talia was the big baddie the whole time, you start to notice all the clues/hints on re-watch. Plus the plot of the movie makes a little more sense. So yeah. I get a little more out of The Dark Knight Rises than Oppenheimer.
I think the least REALLY good Nolan movie was Inception. Everything Nolan has made post-Inception, I haven't really watched as much or have enjoyed. The closest for me would maybe be The Dark Knight Rises, but I don't think I have watched that as much as Inception or enjoyed it as much as Inception. Dunkirk was okay, but it's not an easy watch with what it's about, especially all the death going on.
One last thing, I think Oppenheimer could've been about 30-40 minutes shorter. I don't think they needed to drag it out to 3 hours. Maybe 2 hours 20 minutes (without end credits) would've been fine. I have noticed in the last couple years though that I find 2 hours 10-15 minutes (without end credits) to be the sweet spot for a runtime. I know a lot of people say 90-100 minutes, but there is a ton of movies that are about that length that have me going "that's it?" and in a way I need more. But usually when movies are about 2 hours 10-15 minutes, I feel like I got enough/the right amount, although not every movie. Once in a while I do watch movies that are 2 hours 10-15 minutes where I feel about 15-20 minutes could've been cut. But overall, I'd say 2 hours 10-15 minutes is about right for me.

    • @ismaelkastalani4665
      @ismaelkastalani4665 8 часов назад +1

He's defenatly not overrated , every director has good movies and bad movies and mediocre movies but sometimes hardcore fans can't accept or comprehend when their favorite director makes a bad movie or a movie it's not as great as the other previous movie that he made so they just hit you with the "if you don't like the film that's because you wasn't paying attention and you didn't get it"

@DevinHarbert i think every director has a prime but they don't age well with time as Quinton Tarantino has put it . I know i'm gonna rephrase it because i don't remember how he said it , so anyway like all good directors they their start good their early work is loved by many but then in the middle of their career their work start to get repetitive or just lazy or mediocre and at the end of their career their work is just trash or bad their glory days are way far behind and it did happened to many directors

The only scenes I didn’t care for and wish they were cut out was his affair with Florence Pugh. Don’t care about him basically being a womanizer or his personal life in general. Would of made the film at lot more shorter. Good thing for the fast forward button

Florence Pugh was just.. how they treated her in this was just awful. When Emily Blunt slapped Cillian in the face, I cheered. I swear when I saw this, I thought they should've handed out bed pans because of how long and boring this movie was. If this is the same dude doing an adaptation of The Odyssey with Tom Holland and his simp Chandaya, just.. EWW!

God I hated this film when I first saw it and I hate it even more now! Nolan is officially an overrated hack in my opinion. He can't make a good biopic. I liked Inception, Tenet, Memento, Insomnia and Interstellar were okay, The Prestige and Batman Begins. I swear to god Nolan is in love with Cillian Murphy or maybe he's banging him because I got fucking tired of seeing him in this. He's great in other shit but here.. he sucks! The best acting in this film was Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Robert Downey JR, Josh Peck and Josh Hartnett. 2023 was a stupid year with the dumbass writer's strike. The fact that this won Best Picture over Killers of the Flower Moon is just baffling to me!

Great review, I watch a lot of your videos. You're pretty on point about this movie I didn't see it in the theater but I bought the DVD at Walmart for like 25 bucks. I like pretty much almost all of the aforementioned actors. The movie felt all over the place in a linear sense. Scenes that could have had more tension in the build up to the test. It was long and boring and I think.. like I like to defend movies you know I like to defend actors who I like.. directors as well. I think it's better sometimes when historical films take a little creative license and combine characters.. you know like you have a composite of two different actual people to carry the narrative pacing or drive whatever the themes are. This could have been a decent 9 or 12 part show. I like film in general but this movie falls flat in a lot of ways. There's a huge disconnect with the academy and movie goers.

I wonder how many people realize the Russians were actually on our side during World War 2? This film was more about the Cold War and McCarthyism than the creation of The Bomb. That's probably why they didn't show the devastation of Hiroshima or Nagasaki...it would make Hitler's anti-Semitic actions and concentration camps look like a petty Disney Villain's machinations compared to what Oppenheimer did to the Japanese. 🐧💙🍏🍎
