For those of us who grew up in the 80s and 90s watching competitive Ireland teams, getting to World cups and having the game explained to us by probably the greatest football punditry trio there's ever been.... we didn't realise how good we had it.
    Glory days

Agreed! 100%. And RTE decided to sweep them away as yesterdays men. Yet they are still doing it b it on Eamon's The Stand pod or here on OTB. Perhaps if the big wigs @ RTE were not so busy paying themselves outrageous salaries they might have realised what Gold they had in their ranks!

The BRUTAL truth is the Republic of Ireland has Never produced a top quality manager/coach of Ireland or a decent size club overseas.
    Here are the facts:
The following Republic of Ireland BORN coaches have ALL FAILED to get Ireland to a major finals:
1 Mick Meagan, 2 Liam Tuohy , 3 John Giles, 4 Eoin Hand, 5 Brian Kerr, 6 Stephen Staunton,
And most recently 7 Stephen Kenny (Worst ever coach losing at HOME to Luxembourg!!).
In contrast all 4 managers born OUTSIDE the Republic have got Ireland to a major finals,
1 Jack Charlton, 2 Mick McCarthy, 3 Giovanni Trappatoni and 4 Martin O'Neill.
So by following that pattern an outside manager needs to be appointed for the Nations League which starts in Sep. 2024.

Football ⚽ is strictly a minor sport in Ireland and with the Clubs constant Shambolic performances in European Competitions, amazingly never having qualified for the Group Stage of the European Champions League, Little Shamrock will try again in 2024 and despite their recent 4 in a row of LOI titles they are complete no hopers as they would need to win thru a whopping FOUR rounds of qualifying, thats a total of 8 matches to get to the group stage of the Champions League.
There's a better chance of the Earth been FLAT than of Little Shamrock achieving that milestone.!!
The New Government appointed independent FAI board need a President and Chief Executive who lives in Ireland and NOT overseas.
Plus the Clubs need to get rid of this self harming madcap policy of selling their best players overseas for under 100k. on the transfer market.
2024 New Years resolution should be for all 4 clubs competing in Europe is put all top players on 4 or 5 years long term contracts and dont sell them cheaply.
