For those of us who grew up in the 80s and 90s watching competitive Ireland teams, getting to World cups and having the game explained to us by probably the greatest football punditry trio there's ever been.... we didn't realise how good we had it. Glory days
Agreed! 100%. And RTE decided to sweep them away as yesterdays men. Yet they are still doing it b it on Eamon's The Stand pod or here on OTB. Perhaps if the big wigs @ RTE were not so busy paying themselves outrageous salaries they might have realised what Gold they had in their ranks!
Never a truer word spoke! I used to wait for champions league matches to be on with beated breath to see what Eamo would say! Truth be told, I wasn't bothered with half the matches , I just wanted to hear what the lads would say! But eamo in particular! ❤
Loved this conversation between the lads. We have got to value these true legends while we still have them. Hopefully there is one or two more of these cause there is so many stories untold. Joe done a great job letting them flow. Well done to all.
Such brilliant punditry. Not only insightful but the humour and comradery to go with it. Rte were lucky to have them, Bill O'Herlihy as well. Simply brilliant

The three lads are greatly missed along with Bil. The RTE football coverage and punditry has gone downhill drastically since they’ve left. Brilliant memories watching the football with my Dad, we tuned in more time listen to the lads then watch the actual game.
Liam Brady's uncle Ned Brady was caretaker in my old school many moons ago. A lovely man, very grumpy, the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. He was very, very proud of his nephew. I would pay good money to see those 3 in an old folk's home. It would be like Cocoon on crack.😇
A mess apparently...especially when they cover mostly premier league soccer whenever I catch them on the radio and there is such an array of free high quality soccer podcasts out there ....
One of the best players ever in Brady and truly world class and Ireland’s best ever player, only Henry/bergkamp were better at arsenal and that’s high praise with the greats seen at arsenal over the last 40 years.Only seen him play a few times at arsenal because I was to young but what a player he was that left foot was magnificent and tore up the notoriously tough/dour Italian league also which was unheard of for a uk player in the early 80s,would walk into any side playing today he was that good. They don’t make them like Liam Brady anymore a one off truly great player
The BRUTAL truth is the Republic of Ireland has Never produced a top quality manager/coach of Ireland or a decent size club overseas. Here are the facts: The following Republic of Ireland BORN coaches have ALL FAILED to get Ireland to a major finals: 1 Mick Meagan, 2 Liam Tuohy , 3 John Giles, 4 Eoin Hand, 5 Brian Kerr, 6 Stephen Staunton, And most recently 7 Stephen Kenny (Worst ever coach losing at HOME to Luxembourg!!). In contrast all 4 managers born OUTSIDE the Republic have got Ireland to a major finals, 1 Jack Charlton, 2 Mick McCarthy, 3 Giovanni Trappatoni and 4 Martin O'Neill. So by following that pattern an outside manager needs to be appointed for the Nations League which starts in Sep. 2024.
Good conversation. But it would've been better if Dunphy and Giles weren't so 'tired and emotional'. Should've given them tea and coffee before the event instead of booze!
“Liam was better than Platini”????? Plsntini 3 x Ballon d’Or winner and 7th in All Time FIFA list. Liam … umm … Liam played for my own beloved Hammers?
Yeah, their ludicrous criticism of Martin O’Neill, and the Irish style of play, after the away draw to world champions Germany in 2014, showed they had reached their sell by date.
Football ⚽ is strictly a minor sport in Ireland and with the Clubs constant Shambolic performances in European Competitions, amazingly never having qualified for the Group Stage of the European Champions League, Little Shamrock will try again in 2024 and despite their recent 4 in a row of LOI titles they are complete no hopers as they would need to win thru a whopping FOUR rounds of qualifying, thats a total of 8 matches to get to the group stage of the Champions League. There's a better chance of the Earth been FLAT than of Little Shamrock achieving that milestone.!! The New Government appointed independent FAI board need a President and Chief Executive who lives in Ireland and NOT overseas. Plus the Clubs need to get rid of this self harming madcap policy of selling their best players overseas for under 100k. on the transfer market. 2024 New Years resolution should be for all 4 clubs competing in Europe is put all top players on 4 or 5 years long term contracts and dont sell them cheaply.

Two of Giles classic sayings from the past; "he's very game Bill" (for a player who was ordinary) and "take every game on its merits bill".
Hold it there.
"He's a game lad."
"You need to take every RUclips comment on its merits, Bill."
Great interview. Joe Molloy is an excellent broadcaster.
Eamon not looking well, hope he's ok.
Seems short of breath looks a bit red in the face could be two much red wine
