This is true, having never been to Australia but seeing videos of the country, they live in a primeval jurassic like landscape, where insects and spiders are at least a foot tall. And so cars need to clear at least a foot off the ground or you just have insects the size of dogs scraping the undercarriage. This is not hyperbole, this is Australian life.
Beautiful car - however, more range is needed. I do plan to tow a lightweight trailer around 2500lbs and across North America. The obstruction of the trailer requires more range, much more. I reckon 400 miles is close enough. Anything less is out of contention for my dollar. Thanks for the look at the EV5.
Hi Sam - excellent channel and great to finally have a item not involving Tesla or Mr Musk who seem to have dominated the airwaves (okay, cyberspace) for weeks - I’m guessing though that there’s no such thing as bad publicity in Tesla’s case 😎
The LFP battery is a good change, I like the EV6 verry much but I don"t like the NMH battery and the rear traction. A EV5 long range LFP battery and front axle traction is a best buy, really have it all! The Gt line awd is verry nice for the one who have more money to spend!
Well they’re selling the EV9 here and I’ve seen one close up. It’s not quite as massive as I expected so I’d think the EV5 should be manageable. I’m in rural Shropshire and there’s plenty of massive Range Rovers barrelling down country lanes here!
Yep same here on the RR front ! Just won’t want the hassle of meeting one of them in an equally large tank. Life is just too short for all that reversing, manoeuvring and panel scratching on the soft granite hedges of Cornwall. Size matters down here. 😅
It's a nice car, I can't think of an EV I don't like! The choice is becoming as good as normal ice cars. There's one for everyone's needs! Though I think if you want to pull a caravan they are going to have to start offering a battery pack to help the car get the range.
I would love to buy the new ev 5 awd but I need to know the towing capacity to see if it will be capable to tow my horse trailer can anyone help? thanks
Great size for my needs; in between a BMW X3/Audi Q5/Volvo XC60 and a BMW X5/Audi Q7/Volvo XC90/EX90. LFP battery is a bonus for longevity. Does it have V2H though?
Not sure what the claims regarding charging are based on. I would imagine that the CATL Shenxing would be too expensive right now for a car in this class? Would make more sense to update the EV6 and EV9 with it first. But if they could get 10-80% in like 12 mins that would be insane in this price category (50 000€?) and would outcompete almost everything else.
The Kia EV5 is Kia's first dedicated electric vehicle and was officially launched at the 2024 Bangkok International Motor Show. The EV5 has a starting price of ฿1,249,000-฿1,749,000 in Bangkok. That's $34,000 USD
The price of KIA EV5 in China is : 2024 Light (530km) - US $ 19,400; 2024 Air (530km) - US $ 20,700; 2024 Land (530km) - US $ 22,700 ... Why do they OVER CHARGE this charge when selling the same vehicle in Other countries?????? This is EXTREMELY UNFAIR...
Yep EV5 is much more sensible in terms of efficiency and cost than the EV9. Nowhere near as much storage as a model Y though. Although a model y comes with baggage (ELON)
I think what they’re doing is they are marketing to people who have been sold on the idea of bigger and better. I mean, look at the blocky design of that thing and all the air pushing it’s gonna be doing. Really not the best design for efficiency, but because it’s electric is way more efficient anyway, despite all those flaws. And because we have been using internal combustion engines for a century the third of the car in front is wasted on housing a motor making visibility much worse for the driver and lowering the safety. People are used to that shelf butting out in front. I’m sure that many people think of it as a buffer between themselves and everything out there, but that’s not what it is. Electric doesn’t need to put anywhere near like that. Some electric cars put the motors in the wheelbase.
Its going to be Kia's most popular EV model. Good idea to use LFP from CATL, LG batteries are just ain't cut it anymore with all the safety and reliability issues.
This for sure is not a EV5 GT. That is a GT-line. At 1:29 you can clearly see the GT text on the left bottom badge is not centered and there is some "smudge" on the right of the GT-text. This is how Kia marks their top of the line GT-Line variants and similar badge can be seen on EV6 and EV9 currently. A GT-badge would be text centered and for a fact we know already that EV6 GT and upcoming EV9 GT have way more agressive visual ques than this video shows about the EV5. Also the power told feels a super lackluster to carry a "GT"-badge. Why would they put a GT-badge on a car thats similar size segment as EV6 but would be having half the power? Makes no sense at all. 100% sure this is not EV5 GT shown here.
Hi Sam, Dude, you're all over the shop with your imperial and metric stats. So confusing, and horsepower is so old world. These cars are EV’s and so only kW’s really matter. Cheers.
Tesla needs to build something like this. Most Americans want something like this …not a $25000 economy car. Honda sold just 200,000 civics in America last year.
Actually the $25000 USD bracket is precisely where EV manufacturers should be targeting. At the moment it’s only financially comfortable people who can afford EVs.
@@ivannavi8154 they are better off buying a 2021 Tesla. Most Americans want big cars and trucks. If Honda sells 200,000 civics how can Tesla sell a small EV and hope for more sales.
Well, some of the reasons are higher rents and inflation. That’s a really big reason. For people doing well these reasons don’t even cross their mind so that chunk of people which by the way is much bigger than your chunk of people want smaller and more affordable. I personally do not want a giant vehicle anyway, no matter how much money I make. I mean, I’m happy for you if you can brag congratulations! It’s nice how much money you make and how much you’re bragging but most people don’t care about it.
Doesn't need to be a rocket ship It accelerates as fast as most every day ICE vehicles and that's the mainstream market it's designed for. Curious about the vehicle range The diet might be to reduce battery size and range, depending on its range, as it has 500 kW super charging. As long as you have good access to supercharging infrastructure range doesn't need to be more than 200 miles. Supercharging ubiquity is increasing, so it's likely future proof.
When I had a gasoline car, I had to stand around at the pump for a few minutes, including dealing with payment. Now I just plug in and walk away. Seems a better use of my time to use the restroom, get some food and coffee.
Glaciers are shrinking, coral reefs are in crisis and last year was the hottest on record. Atmospheric concentrations of carbon dioxide, In 2023, global levels of the greenhouse gas rose to 419 parts per million, around 50 percent more than before the Industrial Revolution. That means there are roughly 50 percent more carbon dioxide molecules in the air than there were in 1750. Global fossil fuel emissions are at record-high values.
Can we please not mentioning Tesla over and over again in every video? Not every metric of a car needs to be compared with a Tesla. I like your videos a lot but this detail I could do without
This so-called "GT" is not a "GT." it's the AWD model! It's available as the Earth AWD, and the GT Line 315hp is just 234kw! Another fail from the Electric Viking!
How could you possibly come up with the stupid pricing when even stupid Viking has no clue about the actual price eventhough the price has been known in NZ for almost a month! And it starts at NZ$68k for the 88kwh model, while Australia will get the smaller battery of 64kwh meaning your stupid price estimate is just as stupid as Viking not knowing the price! NZ price is normally around $5-$8k more than Australia, so $60k for the 88kwh model and probably $55k for the smaller battery model!
EV´s are getting more and more ridiculous. Everything has to be longer and higher and at least 4 doors. What's next, 6-door sedans and 7 meter long SUV´s, . . . or 3.5 ton 8-door "bus"-like gogomobiles? And still 65% of the population in the western worlds are solo and duo households, that for 90% of the time ride alone. In 2 years I have to change my EV6. The EV5 looks great.
I have the Kia Niro 4 EV which I am very happy with. It does everything very well and I love the heads up display. The new EV5 sounds similar.
All the auto manufacturers stocks have been going up for a year except Tesla, down 42%.
It is very high on my list the EV5, I'm waiting for the NZ demo coming to town :). Great to hear it has an LFP battery.
Ground clearance seems hard to find out, an important number for Aussie users.
For Coloradans too

Yes like Kia ev5 gt
On the wishlist:
4-wheel drive with big 100kwh battery long range

Batteries from CATL? Reports suggest batteries are from BYD (FinDreams)?
Remember Viking has zero credibility! As he blabs bs every day! We here in NZ have had official pricing now for almost a month!
I totally agree with you 🙂💯
