Coconut Kalimba -- DIY Polishing and Tuning | Philippines

Quarantine has definitely made me do a lot of random things. In this video, I will be polishing and tuning this coconut kalimba I bought last year during our trip to Bali.
This coconut kalimba has been collecting dust on my shelf for a year. I never bothered to practice playing it because I initially didn't like how it sounded compared to other kalimbas you see on RUclips. Little did I know it was actually out of tune, that's why it sounded so bad. LOOOL

Disclaimer: I am not in any way a pro kalimba player. Heck, my only kalimba is this 7-key coconut I bought as a souvenir. All the polishing and tuning I did for this video, I googled first before filming. Please don't roast me RUclips lol

Hi Christine! Im also not an expert pero you can tune it by starting in the middle key. In my case kasi I opted to tune it in C-Major since my Kalimba only has 7-keys. :)

Standard C major tuning from left to right (17keys kalimba)
D6 B5 G5 E5 C5 A4 F4 D4 C4(#1/middle tine) E4 G4 B4 D5 F5 A5 C6 E6
Yung numbers ay octave number ng piano, nakakatulong sya if hindi mo alam kung gaano kababa or taas ang dapat na C major tone ng Kalimba pag itutune na.

@Country Western yes, the 17 keys
it will be the same for 7 keys if you start from middle C :)
However, if a Kalimba have fewer tines, the tuning will depend on your song choices 😊
