  • Welcome to the Nuss Collection Truck Museum!
Hi, I’m Bob Nuss. Here’s a standout piece in our collection: a 1942 Mack FCSW, one of the largest tandem axle, chain drive trucks from the war era. With a gross weight of 130,000 pounds, this truck features a unique chain drive system, where power is transferred from the front axle to the rear via a set of chains.
This truck served diligently during World War II with Oliver Mining in Duluth and Hibbing, Minnesota. The Hall Russ Mahoning Mine in Hibbing, where it worked, became the largest open-pit iron ore mine in North America-and possibly the world. The mining operation was so extensive that it required relocating the city of Hibbing!
Recently, we updated this truck with a new set of front tires and a new fuel tank. During a recent visit from an industrial anthropologist, we discovered that the engine is a post-WWII Cummins NTRO diesel, an off-highway version. It’s fascinating how the museum and its visitors continually reveal new aspects of history.
Come and explore this piece of history with us!
