@@nicholasjohnston1970 Read again. That's brainflash1's point. He means that the original did not need a villain and is calling the studio and writers lazy because they added one [from here onwards text added for clarification] in the new movie. @@comam1351 How the hell did you interpret that from their comment? This is on THIS video, not on the OG Poppins EWW video. It wouldn't make sense for that comment to be about this film if it were here.
Okay, I think there's some serious misreading going on here. brainflash1 said "the writers were lazy enough to add a villain," NOT "the writers were too lazy to add a villain" (Nicholas Johnston seems to interpret the statement to mean that the writers were too lazy to add a villain). "The writers were lazy enough to add a villain" means "the writers DID add a villain and they did that because they were lazy," and is the exact opposite of "the writers were too lazy to add a villain." Likewise, I'm pretty sure that when CoMa M mentions "the studio and writers" adding a villain, he's talking about the new movie (even though he mentioned the original earlier in the sentence), i.e., "the original did not need a villain so the sequel shouldn't have needed a villain either, and the writers of the sequel are lazy because they added a villain to the sequel." That comment is a fair paraphrase of the OP, but AJ seems to have interpreted it as referring to the original movie even in the second half of the sentence (i.e., claiming that the studios and writers of the original were lazy because they supposedly added a villain to the original), which is why he thinks the comment makes no sense (since this isn't the place for calling the writers of the original lazy). TLDR: None of the posters is making nonsensical statements, it's all just a bunch of communication errors.

Julie Andrews actually DID turn down the role they had for her (the ballon lady which is obvious when the scene between her and Emily Blunt happens) but not for the reason you said. She told them that if she came into the movie at the very end, all the audience would think is "Now THERE'S Mary Poppins", and essentially erase everything Emily Blunt did with the character. She didn't want to overshadow her like that.
She's going after Grindlewald in the 3rd Fantastic Beasts movie. The first one was in America, the second in France, so logically I've concluded that the third would be in Kenya.
And doesn't have Julie Andrews (who didnt' want to compete with Emily Blunt here, even for the balloon lady, but Angela Lansbury, whose own BEDKNOBS & BROOMSTICKS,1971, is a sort of "Poppins" films, with two boy and a girl like this film, is delightful here as the baloon lady.)Actual;y Yondu is Mary Poppins.

I'm going to have to sin your "C sharp Major" sin. It actually makes far more sense, and would be easier to sight read in D flat major, which only has five flats, as apposed to "C Sharp Major" which has seven sharps, meaning EVERY KEY is sharp. D flat is far more common, and just so much easier. DING! (Although I will agree that she didn't have to say major.)
I was thinking exactly the same thing. I have seen C-sharp major used to notate something that would otherwise have had a lot of double-flats in D-flat major, but apart from to avoid something like that, C-sharp major is very rare when, as you have pointed out, there is a simpler enharmonic alternative.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that was her giving a polite excuse. Dick Van Dyke showing up was proof that spotlight-stealing really wasn't a problem.
Given that she's British, I have a hard time imagining that she was OK with the betrayal of P.L. Travers this film represents.

Depends on the instrumentation actually. String players and some vocalists and woodwinds often prefer reading sharps than flats, even if it is two more sharps than flats.

6:03 do you have any idea how many sharps you have to write for the key of C sharp vs flats for D flat? That's key signaturist, DING!
Mary Poppins has no truck with this modern ‘even-tempered’ nonsense. When she says C-sharp, she means it!

Totally agree about the cabaret number. Not very Poppins proper at all.
That was when the movie lost me for good. I had really wanted to enjoy it but that was just way too out of character.
it was WAY to bawdy and ribald for a Nanny to perform with her charges in the audience, or not in the audience for that matter. it was an incredibly stupid idea and disgusted me so much it threw off the rest of the film.
