Adele would have been fun. Andrews was a stage actor that was pretty unknown. They don’t make those sorts of gambles anymore. There probably is a broadway person that could have done well though. Hollywood likes to get actors and then just autotune them.
That's because she was demanded to portray a character from a certain region, along with it's particular accent quirks. It's always difficult things to do even for fellow brit actors. Look at the great Sir Michael Kaine, who can get past his thick Cockney accents.
Just seeing this skit for the first time. I must see that this is one of the most delightful skits from SNL. Sheer perfection and I am always happy to Anne on SNL.
The one man band sounds when Bill Hader walks around is great! Attention to detail like this really livens up the transitions in the skit. Like when he kneels down and it sounds like letting the air out of an accordion(/kazoo whatever that was...)
Well no, it's just he literally said, "must be your cooking, Mary poppins".. so we know based off implication, otherwise he'd of said, "must be your cooking, Bert" @tejaswoman

Anne Hathaway did a great job imitating Julie Andrews. She’s so talented, and every time she goes on SNL, she proves over and over how versatile she is. And Bill Hader sounded just like Dick VanDyke. Great skit!
Anne Hathaway is perfect! She sings, she dances, and she is an academy award winner! I would watch her in anything she does! If they make another Mary Poppins, Anne should play the lead!

@Jean: According to a transcript of the skit (snltranscripts.jt.org/08/08dpoppins.phtml), Jane Banks is played by Casey Wilson. The resemblance here, to the Winifred Banks of Glynis Johns, is remarkable. I'd wondered if anyone else had thought the same. Thank you for having mentioned.
@@snakes2890 I completely agree. I was thinking that all the way through. Perhaps *she* should have played adult Jane alongside Emily Blunt. That would have been surreal.
