To add to this with experience you start to gauge the pressure needed for different tiles so you get less chipping on the finish and a cleaner edge on the biscuit.
I always found tiling walls to be an absolute breeze, but floors can be a real challenge. Regardless, it is a really good feeling to have learned a new skill like this.
When I do tile I’m spoiled with a tile wet saw. You did a great job with the tools you had. Next time only score a couple times then press, saves the blade. We all have to step out of our comfort zone. What we accomplish can be pretty amazing
Hey, pretty good man. Tile is one of those where the basic process is actually simple but the mastery takes a long time. But patience can fill the gaps sometimes 👍
Awesome. Looks like you did a better job than who installed those tiles in the first place. Side note: That tile cutter is a push to cut tool. You can push down on the cutting wheel harder and get a better scoring cut. Pushing the cutting wheel will place you all the way forward and all you have to do is lift up then push down and the presser foot will snap the tile.
Awesome job. One of the scariest things is trying to do something you’ve never done before. Add in the fact that your mistakes could make it harder to live in your own house and it gets even scarier. As long as it doesn’t involve gas or electricity I usually say I’m down to give it a try.
That’s great to hear, thank you, and I totally get the cynicism some have, it’s hard to dedicate your life to something and see others doing it in a way that you don’t approve of. Especially if you’ve been in the field for a long time it’s easy to forget your first day on a job site and all the mistakes you made. I just don’t want people to be so scared of failing that they never try, every professional started out as an amateur and there’s plenty of room in the world for both. Thanks again for reaching out I really appreciate it.
People saying it will crack again. They may be right but…as you said you do this once now next time you’ll have no anxiety about it and can tile a backsplash or think about other tile repairs. I’ve done some floor tile jobs and the repair you did is how I’d do it (maybe I’d use a thin set instead of premix although the premix can be floor rated). 👍
Good video, brother. I like that you weren't afraid to dive in and just do it. I have one sugestion... you might want to re-grout the rest of the tiles to freshen them up and make it all look even.
Thanks so much, jumping into something new can be scary but I’ve almost always been happy I tried it after it’s over. Re-grouting the rest of the floor is an awesome idea, it was a little more work then I wanted to do when I did this project but that doesn’t mean I can’t do it now. If I work up the ambition and try it I’ll make sure to make it a video and let everyone know how I make out. Thanks again for the suggestion and for watching.
I’m a tile guy. Tile scares a lot of DIYers (for good reason, honestly). But there’s a lot to be said for the type of guy who’s confident enough to just tear up some fuckin tile and execute properly. Nicely done, looks great.

Quick tip with the tile cutter, when you go to break it give the handle a quick snap instead of pressing down with constant pressure, that will let you score it once and have a clean cut. I just learned it myself from an old school tile man worked like a charm!
Great tip, thank you! I will definitely give that a shot on the next one. There nothing better then an old tile pro, I’m glad they passed the tricks of the trade down to you. That’s what it’s all about. Thanks for watching and for sharing.

The most difficult part of this operation is finding matching tiles anywhere 10-15yrs after the original floor was laid..
Lol right
Steal them from under a cupboard, dishwasher, fridge, etc.
But who doesn’t have a spare box in their attic/basement.
@@AndrewB24 I agree with you. I have backups of just about everything. Most people don't think that way though.

Most osb are not recommended for a mortar bond. There is an agent in and sprayed on that inhibits bonding.
I don't think it's OSB if u look closely.. looks like glue when they put in linoleum
