If you pay attention in Biochemistry, you notice that the first step in any carbohydrate metabolism is phosphorylation “e.g. glucose will become glucose-6-phosphate”...Why is that? Because if glucose alone entered the cell, it can diffuse back to the extracellular fluid (which renders catabolism impossible because we can’t pin glucose and fix it inside the cell so that we can perform our chemical reactions on it), so, phosphorylation fixes stuff inside the cell and prevent them from leaving...That’s why my mnemonic is “Phosphorylation Phixes” which means phosphorylation fixes. Hope it helps!

My alkaline phosphate has been over nearly 200 for a year. My bones are extremely thin and fractures are now near 13. This began a few years ago with the fractures when we had mold poisoning from our house. I have an appointment with an Endocrinologist next week. How will this dr diagnose what’s wrong? I’ve gone from dr to dr to dr. I’ve had cancer twice years ago. Am I on the right track by going to endocrinologist? I just want to get better. I’m confined to my bed at age 59 with 8 fractures in my spine that do not heal. I could use some serious feedback. Thanks in advance.

My 20 year old son's ALP is 349 U/L as shown in a recent blood test. In addition, his protein and Vitamin D are very low. The doctor whom I consulted insisted nothing is wrong with his liver. Instead, he said that the elevated ALP is due to low protein in my son's body. So the liver produces more ALP to absorb protein from the food intake. His explanation somewhat confuses.
