I've got 4 wiimotes that had corrosion. the battery terminals that are soldered in are tricky. I use vinegar to get rid of the corrosion I apply it with a q-tip. 2000 grit to rough up the minor spots - HAVE to careful so you don't take off too much on the terminal. Great video, I'm watching so I don't miss anything important. *subbed and liked*
I was working at opening the top and yeah... that clip broke 100%. I was wondering how yours popped so easily. I even used the same "guitar pick" tool.
What is that black square on the inside of the rear shell? And what did you use to clean the board? I got some second hand wii gear recently and will be taking it apart to paint the shell, but will also clean it if deemed necessary. :)
I cannot for the life of me figure out how to take the battery terminals out. At 6:06 he is putting it back IN , but I didn’t see in the video when he REMOVED it. Any help is greatly appreciated!!
Hey I removed the battery terminal at 2:56. You have to push down on a little tab on the terminal while pushing out the terminal itself. Very similar to game boys and such. Hope this helps 🙂
I recommend the TS100 or TS80p for a soldering iron but then if I personally use the Pinecel as I deal with small components usually so the fine tips are really good for that
@@TheBygoneEra I got it Finally and yes it was very hard to do. I used a small putty knife and if worked ok. I did damage the plastic a bit but it’s alright.
Here is a link, but keep in mind I’m in Australia and this is an Australian store. If you’re not in Aus you can still find very similar sets on Amazon www.jaycar.com.au/48-piece-screwdriver-set-with-carry-case/p/TD2134
Ive got a Wii remote I opened up because the butrons were sticking and I discovered the previous owner mustve poured soda into it or something and the speaker was all junked up and the "paper" was completely soaked with it do you know what its made out of to be replaced or does it need to be replaced at all?
If you’re talking about the paper that is between the speaker and the remote shell, I’m fairly sure that’s just a dust prevention and isn’t necessary for the remote to operate
Hey my remote turns on for a second and turns off for a while, whats the fix? Also This is a old dirty remote i cleaned for the entire day and wetted and dryed all the parts expect for Electric parts. Also there is like tabaco on the remote but i removed most of it, and all of it on the bord
It could be a number of things. I’d make sure there is no corrosion on the battery terminals first, then clean the power switch. Make sure the whole board is clean first and see if that helps
I didn't break anything when I pried my controller apart, but now that it's put back together the clips at the top part don't want to clip together. Other than that, the controller looks much better!
That's because the way he opened the Wii Mote always breaks the clips, if you take a closer look he broke the one oposite to the side of de on/off button
Major question, how in the world did you get the back battery contacts out so easily???? I’ve literally bent the plastic trying to get em out.
Just have to make sure you bend the small metal tab down, then it can slip straight out!
@@TheBygoneEra But they are soldered in!?
Not the ones on the back half of the shell

Thanks for helping me revive my wiimote!
Following this just saved my wii mote. Thank you so much! Kind regards from Brazil!

I’m pretty sure mine ended up breaking too
Was looking at this to see how easy a button swap would be. Thanks for the vid, looks easy enough!
I’m glad I could help!
😩😩 This video makes me want to see my 3 corroded wii remotes clean and fixed
Hopefully they can be saved!

pleeeeaaaase expand on how you removed the battery part. I cannot get it for the life of me. I've tried several tools. I am desperate.
There is a small metal tab on the back side of the battery terminal that needs to be pushed in to allow it to slide out
I remember when I was super young, I put play-dough on the buttons, and years later, it is not working

Hi, some of my battery terminals have broken off after being exposed to battery corrosion - is there any way to buy replacement terminals? Thanks
You should be able to get replacements on eBay or AliExpress
@@TheBygoneEra Got them on order thanks - will I need to solder or can I just install and touch the points?
The battery terminals in the shell just clip in, but the terminals on the board will need to be soldered

Thanks for the info, I definitely need to look into getting a new one so I’ll check them out!
what power supply do you use?
@@jp9403 65W laptop charger
The way you open the Wii Mote controller on the video broke the clip on the oposite side from the side of the power on/off button
Yeah I didn’t realise at the time but I think you’re right
I cannot for the life of me pry off the top and bottom. Any suggestions?
It’s definitely hard to do. First time I did it it cracked the little clip. It’s an annoying design for sure

Open it up again and check the connections on the board that go to the IR. Hopefully it can be repaired!

@@TheBygoneEra Thank you!
Please tell me how did you put back the 1 and 2 buttons please I been trying for 20 minutes please respond
They should just rest in place, then the button membrane goes on top, then the board goes in. It should be that simple
I’ve tried getting the back out but it’s so stiff
It’s very tight but I promise it can be done!
