This? This right here? This is WHY I chose the alternative ending. I love Ted as his character, and I love how much he'd doted on Robin. But those two weren't meant to be endgame. Not everybody ends up with the same person as they begin, BUT thats okay because it's _realistic._ . And in this circumstance, Robin ending up with Barney in the long run was the true canon of the series. No matter how rudely the writers decided to change their mind after spending a whole season on it- they'd also given us alternatives with the narrating at the end of the series, because every episode of that season wrapped up just before the credits. So...Endgame. And Ted never lost Tracy. It's a much better completion, if you ask me. Excellent edit! I only just watched this series for the first time during the fall and to see a video made of them in that same time frame gave me all the Swarkles feels!!
You find this more "realistic"? Life happens, people die, people drift apart, but in the end, it's all about finding happiness. Robin and Barney weren't happy being married to one another, that doesn't mean they still don't love one another. Robin didn't want to be tied down and wanted to be a careers-woman, and Barney wanted to settle down and start a family (even his mum said that) no matter how hard he can try and hide it. Both Barney and Ted wanted different things out of life compared to Robin, and that's why they failed to work. But after moving from Tracy, Ted is an empty pallete and so is Robin (living in New York again away from her career). You may ask why Robin and Barney can't be together at the end since Barney has a clean pallete too, but he and Robin just aren't a healthy match. Their first period of dating turned them both into miserable people, they cheated on their loved ones with each other, then a twist of lies got them back together which Robin almost refused until a wedding ring appeared (which in my opinion Robin only agreed to because she liked the idea of marriage). They love each other, but not enough for a committed relationship.
@ZenithAMVs I agree with that, but the bad thing about the ending is that they spent a whole ass season for Barney and Robin's character development, they both changed and as we can see from their interactions with each other, they both love each lther, so the fact that they just reverted all of the development is actually unrealistic, its not meant to be realistic cause its just a show but even if you look at it in a viewer point, them changing back is just bad writing, whats the point of making them change if in the end they will just turn them back. The alternate ending is the better ending in that context, they already changed for each other, why did they suddenly get divorced because of Robin's job, that part does not make sense
The ending ruined my faith for the show. Swarkles still remains one of my top otp though.

Barney is a icon and so is Robin and they fit so well, Barney’s charm and wholesomeness fits with robin so much
That's why most of us chose alternative ending to be the real ending
