- This was the first Trolls 3 sequence I was launched on, when they were still figuring out the villains' personalities. I thought it could be funny if Velvet was the embodiment of using big words that she didn't understand (eggcorns/boneappletea), and Veneer was the kind of guy who got caught selling cocaine as a 20 year old and sold out all his friends to get off the hook.

But the storyboarders do this so the actors have a "guideline to follow", so they know how to act.

He's great, that takes a lot of work to time it right and switch keys so you can tell the characters apart!

Man! The idea of Velvet and Venner being bergens is really interesting
Just like the trolls, there are different species of bergens around and not all of them would have the best intention in mind
Oh, and not to mention the first movie when a bergen eats a troll they become happy and sing better. That's a continuity done right, the trolls help them sing better.

Applause is SUCH a perfect song for them, especially Velvet! Wish they'd kept the song at least, and definitely hope someone makes an animatic with them to the song. It fits so well

I’m sad they didn’t use a applause by Lady Gaga, unfortunately we all have to hear “Bad Romance” over and over and over, it just makes me upset that all of her other songs don’t get enough attention in movies

They probably weren’t able to get the rights to the song, that’s why they scrapped it.
The idea of them being Bergens is interesting! But honestly they fit more as spaghetti dolls.
And dang, we need a cover of them singing Applause. It genuinely fits them!

Chef would be revealed to still be alive and now works as a troll poacher; basically selling trolls on the black market like illegal drugs. (Unfortunately Creek was eaten by her.) Floyd got caught in a trap she put out in the forest and was then sold to Velvet and Veneer. If she can’t cook trolls to be served up and bergens don’t eat trolls anymore, she must result to being a troll dealer. (Sometimes, she eats the trolls she captured.)

I swear I love story boards! Getting to see the ideas compiling together and learning the ideas of the artist is really awesome to see! And while sometimes most ideas change or is kept the same the story will still keep something clear
I love with trolls 3 the idea of how trolls have so many properties! And no matter if they’re eaten or used as a captive magical perfume, trolls ability of happiness, natural talent and heart is something that’s only to them.
Seeing Veneer still having a bit of a soft spot shows is really good since he mostly changed because he was told to by his sister and glad they still showed that in the movie in a form.
I think it’s interesting how one of the song ideas was applause which really does fit the ideas of the villains of trolls 3
I actually liked the idea of Velvet and Veneer being Bergens, It could've opened a lot of opportunities for plot progressions, like them being the Niece and Nephew of Chef, who instead of wanting to eat the Trolls for they're happiness, they want to take away Trolls talent to become superstars. And it could've also revealed that Creek was still alive, and helping Velvet and Veneer by helping Kidnap Floyd, probably in the same way he lead the trolls to get captured by Chef.
I mean, don't get me wrong. I like Velvet and Veneers designs, they're the most unique I've scene in a troll movie. But they don't really look like they belong in a Troll movie.

While it's cool to see other species I feel if they were bergens it would give nice tension to the movie, especially with Viva

Woah! These boards are amazing and the pitch totally drew me in! This version feels so much more weighted in decision and conflict of interest between brother, sisters, and crimp. AND IT DIDNT GO WELL LAST TIME? WAS THE NEXT SCENE SOMETHING SAD? Wow. Thanks so much for exploring different possibilities with your skill, man!
Velvet and vaneeur look like branch and poppy but taller and more aggressive to themselves
First, glad they chose spaghetti people then burgens. Opens their universe lore and you can tell the animators had a more interesting time animating them. Second, wish they used applause but sweet dreams was a bop too. Third, wish we got a scene where they go back and fourth from bad-good singing.

Love this concept and idea so much more, it gives more depth in my opinion. The assistant makes sense and actually has a part that isn’t random, the burgons have all actually heard that trolls are accepted but don’t care, and the twins have more depth as to who they are rather than just “I am bratty and bossy sister” and “I am submissive and slightly less bossy brother who is kind of good”. And applause makes soooo much more sense. Movie still good just wish dreamworks would have let them flesh out the characters more rather than just get an okay/good movie with a lot of cash grab
Absolutely love this, the narrating makes it so much better 🙏🙏 So fun to see how this movie came to be piece by piece

This storyboard/animatic turned out pretty good! It's always interesting to see how much the story and character designs can change over time
velvet and veneer acted like such nerds in the early stages its soo different than the final product 😭

I love the sequence with velvet grabbing the curtains and swinging the fabric around! And that nice transition from the curtain wave to her with the perfume bottle is awesome. This storyboard is really well thought out, wish it stayed for the movie! Your narration is seriously so good too!
Edit: Also "Aah, the coup d'tat," cracked me up so bad lmao!!
I wish they kept applause into the movie cus it would be dope to hear velvet and veneer (mostly velvet cus it suits her) sing it

I LOVE the final version but i def wouldnt shut up to anyone who'd put up with me "velvet and veneer were gunna be bergens im a little mad theyre not :X" i do really love the final look and along with the vacaytioners and whatever crimp is its neat to see more species. But. Im really excited to see more than just that 1 concept art of them as bergens they are so cute here

I think it logically makes more sense for them to be bergans since it would make sense that they would find more then one use for the trolls. But their character designs in the movie are a welcome change.
Not that I hate the crew decision on making the V's Noodle-Folk (If anything it was a surprise to see more humanoid species in the trolls universe), but something about them being Bergens(?) just felt Reasonable and Organic; plus they look fine af. It also would've fit the subplot with Viva more (I think).
Also, the V's should've been a bigger (possibly 5 member) group, influenced by real life family bands like the jackson 5.
I agree they should’ve been 5 members cuz it makes sense with V meaning number five too. But I’m sure they couldn’t go further than two due to limited timing we wouldn’t be able to develop so many characters 😭the already cutting the original gang.

“unerlecssent”? “coupe detat?” “obtuse” ?You know when a kids film has those words in it they actually care about the plot and dialogue, because there is definitely no kid who knows what those words means
And neither did Velvet 💀
this is soo awesome, it was a bit of a downer to watch the actual movie and see that they didn't go with this. the execution, the plot exposition via song, the bombastic posing and visuals w the hair scarf and cameras, the cut to it just being a troll essence-riddled song number-- its so perfect. so succinct and electric compared to what the movie did. hope to see more of your work and hope this gets plenty of recognition.

Tbh l want you guys to do this idea for the trolls movie but separate from the other movies. Like an alternate time line kinda where this happened instead 😭 it would looked and been so good and interesting and the angst for branch being the one trap in the spray bottle instead of Floyd WOULD HAVE BEEN SO GOOD!!! I’d say the essence they use equivalent to the drugs that real singers use to help them perform. Windy Houston is one example, including comedians, actors and at times child stars. This storyboard depicts it better but it can still be telling from the actual movie 🎥.
