- My transcription of Tenderly (from The Jazz at the Philharmonic Carnegie Hall concert (1949). Most of solo #2 is transcribed from "The Nat King Cole Show" (1957). More info at www.jimmartinez.com
Incredible technique. You play those runs with such ease. Fantastic playing.
Thanks again for the inspiration.
Amazing transcription. Very very talented. By far the best interpreted version of tenderly i´ve heard since the original.
Jim...that is absolutely fantastic!!! so special....congrats!!!!! BRAVO!
i love this interpretation by jim martinez....i don't see any soul missing here people!pure soulful playing.
Fantastic! I've known this rendition of Tenderly by heart since I was 15 years old. You're doing great. I had it on a record called Oscar Peterson in Concert. Thank's for posting!
Single cleanest performance of an Oscar piece I think I've ever seen. Brilliant technique and kudos on transcribing something this challenging.
maybe I listen your 'tenderly' many years..thank you for this beautiful sharing!
BRAVO, JIM!!!
I bought this time your NEW ALBUM - Good Grief! It's Still Jim Martinez: A Tribute To Guaraldi, Schulz And Peanuts. BRILLANT!!!
Your technique is truly excellent! This is a great post. This is an amazingly faithful performance of an OP masterwork. *****
Jim, you already captured my attention and admiration at our recent recording for you are truly an excellent pianist/arranger/composer. Bless you.
Love love love it. Thank you so much for this wonderful arrangement and peformance.
Absolutely beautiful.
Wonderful mix of warmth, talent, and taste--and in my opinion it's a very faithful tribute to Mr. Peterson's style.
I keep coming back to listen!
Mr. Martinez, I just bought your rendition of "Surely The Presence Of The Lord" because I can't get it out of my head! I heard it on an internet radio station and I Had to get it because it completely changed my mood for the better the first time I'd heard it! I didn't even realize that this video was the same person who recorded that beautiful piece! Your an amazing pianist and I'll never understand how 17 people could chose dislike but you can't please everyone. Keep up the Great work!
I'm completely speechless...
God bless you and your amazing hands!!!
Very very ... Very ,... Nice. ! ;) Thanks Jim.
unbelievably awesome...
Thats beautiful!!! I couldn't help but to watch it over and over!!
Thanks for the update !
I will always remain a close listener to his interpretations !
Beautiful.
Stunning - you are an incredible pianist, and you are a credit to Oscar.
It just reminds us of how inferior we are when we realise that, unlike Peterson, we can't make that up!
Soooo good. I've listened to the original 100s of times. One of the best transcriptions I've heard of ANY music: accuracy, the pulse of the missing guitar and bass, feel, technique. That does it for me as well. Instant subscribe.
Oh what I'd give to be able to play jazz like this, absolutely fantastic!!!
Astonishingly good! The spirit of OP lives on!
Excellent transcription and performance of one of my favourite recordings for 40 years - great job man!
clap clap clap clap bravo maestro! inspiring!!
Blessings!!
Very very nice played! I think that it's great to hear a high quality sound on youtube. Great job all in all!
Absolutely amazing! I love how it changes from jazz to a blues sound. Awesome play!
Listened to this 6 years ago and it's just as amazing today!

Gonzague from France.
spectacular.
i think ive watched this video about 30 times... I still love it. but it's paying off for me as I can now play some of these runs by ear
wow. obviously a lot of talented and practice! Thank you for posting!
Awesome! Jim, you are amazing!!!
What a great arrangement and rendition; thanks for posting! I love this song. :)
If you ever come over to the UK, I would love to hook up on drums, O.P. is my reason for getting into jazz. My dad would play all his big band records as a child but when I heard the Oscar Peterson Trio it all made perfect scence to me, because that's all you need. Piano-Bass-Drums to make the best music ever.
Regards
Tony
Very very good Martínez.
Excellent !!!
Very well done. Oscar would smile and proud.
Terrific job! Good work.
Excellent!
You are amazing!!well done
This guy playing is excellent. WOW. I want to buy his CD's. I love Oscar's music obviously, but this is great. I will listen to more of his.....Cheers
...continued - no wonder Clint Eastwood was impressed when he heard Jim playing at a Carmel place of worship. This magnificent performance needs to be played as a reality check by all aspiring pianists!
I watch this all the time. You should do more, from the same camera angle too. It's really helpful to us aspiring musicians
Jim is an awesome pianist as well as a great human being!
No wonder Clint Eastwood was impressed when he first heard JM play. Here is man who can not only play brilliantly, he transcribed OP 's concert performance of Tenderly!
i'm mean really guys...there's nothing to criticize about this...it's the bomb!
So impressive! Thanks for keeping Oscar alive. :)
wow............ u are amazing. i love this piece and this is the best version i've seen next to peterson himself. thank you.
I've played a bunch of Tatum over the years. Performed some in concert, as well. Thanks.
thanks for your musical interpretation of my favorite Oscar Peterson ...
Beautiful!
And I love your sound, too.
That's amazing how anyone could transcribe it let alone play it.
Unreal!
I've been hoping you would be uploading a new video sometime soon. This was well worth the wait.
Bravo!
11/10 absolutely FANTASTIC....
This copy of Tenderly (Oscar) is very close. Excellent work. from this pianoist. Acually first class. I wpould love to see him play Night and Day a Cole Porter tune. Cheers all......
made me smile, thats as good as it gets
That was beautiful.
Very impressive. And I know that recording so well. You are goooood man!!!
You are among the best Oscar, Errol and Bill!!!
Fine and perfect business !
I'm sure Oscar Himself would apreciate.
Congratulations from France.
Jean
Fantastic!
Thanks for the inspiration.
Tom
NYC
masterful!
Simply Amazing..!!!
Wonderful work!!!!
wow. Great isn't the word! You got the OP "feel"....Great stuff
Fantastic, Mr Martinez ! :)
i hope to someday be able to play this too. There goes the time where music was mainly art (with a little bit of business) and not now that it's mostly business with no art whatsoever
Awesome speed and accuracy. Clear evidence of classical training. Good arpeggios and chords too
Terrific!
amazing
Impressive work!
@RayfieldA Thanks so much...I truly appreciate that!! I am so happy that the music touched you like that...Praise God. A note like yours is music to my ears (eyes?) :-)
Bravo!
You sir, are ridiculously good.
nice job! great feel..
Wonderful playing. I can't understand why (so far) 21 people voted this video down.
Jim-I'm a fan since hearing you when you toured LI for digital piano maker & I have many of your MIDIs. Superb as always- More OP is never enough! I hope Oli answers the 21st century you tube "cutting party" call.
That Peterson arrangement is mind-blowing.
awesome!!!!!!!!!!
Amazing, please keep on playing, transcribing and performing!
Grtz,
Eric
Fantastic. Thanks.
quite brilliant
great job!
AWESOME
Haha! Thanks for the compliment. Funny, cause watching the compressed video it does look a little jerky like an old movie, but of course not. You can check out my website and you'll see I have no reason to do so. I played way too much Chopin in my younger years :-)
I'm going to learn that song now
Beautiful stuff
Awesome stuff man! I thought I'd commented back then but realized I had not.
I recorded this by placing the microphones too close to the hammers. It all sounds too 'poundy'. Please check out my website or MySpace and you'll hear I just need better mics.
Waouuh, Jim , it's marvelous !
I'm going to by your transcription and unfortunately I will play it slower than you !!
please continue to provide us more jazz transcriptions.
