as a teenager I got into Oscar through my Dad´s record collection and jazz has been a bond between us ever since. Right now my Dad is in hospital following surgery and I´m hoping and praying we´ll be able to see one another again and swing a little longer. Thanks Oscar for the joy you´ve given both of us!
The greatest version of Tenderly - I am getting my daily dosage... Oscar Peterson one of the great pianists of all time I am so proud that he was born in my city of Montreal, and the city is now honouring him by renaming important streets of Montreal Oscar Peterson well done!

A few months after this gig Oscar replaced Herb with drummer Ed Thigpen. That (new) trio formation catapulted Oscar even more in the limelight. But this “Tenderly” album is really great with beautiful solo’s. G’day & Cheers!
@chrisboylen1807 Yes! This too is my favourite version of “Tenderly”. However, I disagree with you that the guitarist is Barney Kessel. It’s Herb Ellis. In fact Peterson introduces him as “Herbie” Elltis before the solo “Patricia” which together with “Pogo” we’re composed by Ellis. If you listen carefully, whenever he’s not plucking the strings of his instrument, in the absence of a drummer, you’ll hear the guitarist tapping out the time on the body of his guitar. This is especially noticeable during Ray Brown’s short solos in “How About You” and “Gypsy In My Soul”. This is a distinctive trait of Ellis whenever he plays in a drummerless band. During the 1950’s the O.P. Trio were very much engaged with Norman Granz’s JATP. This meant a great deal of travelling to concerts all across the USA, as well as in Europe. Barney Kessel found this onerous and wanted to be at home. He was replaced by Herb Ellis in the early 1950’s. There is a complementary album to “Tenderly”, entitled “Vancouver”. Both were recorded on 8 August 1958, in that city, at the Orpheum Theatre. It’s on RUclips at m.ruclips.net/video/Ohsi0fmqyZk/видео.html&pp=ygUbVmFuY291dsO3ciAtIE9zY2FyIFBldGVyc29u .
The photo shows Herb Ellis, but in fact on this particular recording of Tenderly, it was Barney Kessel . For some reason, Barney played _ for me the greatest version of Tenderly.

OSCAR PETERSON'S version of TERDERLY IS the BEST, thank ❤❤❤❤❤
I feel as though you are all gaslighting me. Tenderly is not on this video/Album.

Lovely music!! Thanks. What a pity the title track (which is the final track) 'Tenderly', is missing.
Yes, I wondered about that ? The 1951 version is my favorite.
