I have added the word variation in the title because I am not 100% convinced this is the right pattern. That says regardless of the name it looks to me like a fly that will work. I believe the original pattern was designed by Russ Owen. It just has many different trigger points and I would be confident fishing this fly right down to size #16. If you are topping up your dry fly boxes this winter you could do worse than add a few of these. I think it would go well with a pearl or green butt as well.

THANKYOU! I've struggled with cdc patterns. The term stacking the feathers makes it so much easier me!

It's another great video that will be making its way into my armoury. I sadly missed your last chatting video but what I wanted to ask was this.
If you were given the opportunity to design a new fishing competition for stillwaters what would it look like. What would Lindsay's rules be. What would be allowed and what wouldn't.
    Keep up the great videos.

Hi Mike, It is a great question and one that was posed during the live broadcast. It is not an easy one to answer though. I think If I was going to run a Stillwater competition it would be to Fips Mouche rules rather than IFFA. The reason for this is the rest of the world fish to Fips, its simply an anomaly that we do not. I think something along the lines of the Hanak which is a Rivers competition. Teams of three with two anglers fishing and the third controlling another team. First fish measured and time recorded then returned and subsequent fish measured and returned. Something along that line I think.

A sort of red butt Yellow Owl crossed with a slimmed down Grunter. What’s not to like?
    Well tied.

Patterns like this start out in wild waters that are all native spawned in the feeder streams of the lake stock with a top up of stocked fish. Then when anglers try them on waters such as Chew, Pitsford, Grafham, and Rutland they are just as deadly. The type of flies that over wintered fish will go for after they go blob and fab blind. Grafham might be better suited to an orange holographic butt. Many patterns catch the eye of the angler. These catch the eye then mouth of the fish. I know my choice in the matter.
