  • hook mustad 3399 or wet fly hook of choice in sizes 6 to 14, tail golden pheasant tippet, rib small copper or gold wire, body peacok herl rope, hackle brown hen hackle, wing white marabou but withe deer hair bucktail and calftail can be used.

    Almost the same tie as the Pass Lake Special. Just a variance in a few materials. 🎣 Neil

    I was surprised when you said marabou was more durable than bucktail. I’ve never heard someone compare their durability before. Is this something you found by experience? I do think the marabou looks better and would have more action in slow or still water. For fast water, I would have thought bucktail a better choice, but now I wonder if it would be the right choice.

      In the book the pattern called for white deer hair ,there for the marabou would be stronger, I probably said the wrong thing lol sorry about that thanks for watching appreciate it

    Super nice fly. I agree with you that the marabou looks better and has more action than the deer hair. I am going to tie this fly on a size 12 if I can get everything to look right. Thanks for the great video, Hughie. It is much appreciated.
