Edgar Wright is a fucking beast.
I want to give you a like but it sits at 69. DM me for screen shot haha.
I can’t believe that Lucy James doesn’t know what a lock-in is, I feel betrayed.
She’s a geordie. She must know.
'From Dusk till Shaun' is such a perfect title that they need to make a sequel now that the cast is older. Maybe in four years for the twentieth anniversary.
But those were vampires right? Still that name is really good.
That was referenced in Into The Spider-Verse
Shaun of The Planet of The Apes! That could work for the third film right?
they actually planned to do a sequel with that name
A lock in at a pub in England is basically if you are friendly enough with the landlord a group of you can stay in after last orders till early hours of the morning carrying on drinking either for free or just give a lump sum of money to the landlord for your drinks as legally with alcohol licences here they can't keep serving drinks after a certain time (for pubs here it's usually 1am), so the lock in they do on the side, at least in the north of England anyway. And when pubs were allowed to be open, I remember those times dearly...
That Intro is awesome! It perfectly captures the Scott Pilgrim style and music. Congrats!
The Yub Nub bit at the beginning of this podcast isn’t entirely unrelated to Edgar Wright. In an episode of Spaced, the guys have a Star Wars marathon (the show came out around the time of The Phantom Menace) and Yub Nub is playing after a scene transition. Or at least a piece of music that resembles it, they might not have got clearance for the actual piece of music, and it’s been so long since I’ve seen it that I can’t confirm.
I refuse to accept Lucy doesn't know what a lock in is 🤣. She's supposed to be from Newcastle ffs
Agree I was shocked like cmon most British people know what a lock-in is😂👍😊
Imposter! I am baffled haha
A British person who didn't know what a lock-in is 😯
I was appalled too!
@@nkonig1 I know 🤷♂️
Peter Serafinowicz never gets the shout out for being Darth Maul's voice...
I came here to say this haha. Also got to give him props for being Mild-Mannered Pate in Dark Souls 2
And the front door is open AGAIN!
That intro is sooooo awesome
The excitement.... When I saw this fucking uploaded...
Fuck YES I fucking LOVE this MOVIE
Lads a lock-in is when the pub is meant to be closed but they lock the door and turn off the music to hide from the police but let everyone stay in drinking past hours 😂 🇮🇪
Give Cameron Kennedy an Oscar holy shit
I know it’s been this way forever, but shout out to Tim and his beautiful light setup. Appreciate the dedication to color matching the theme for what you are watching. Secondary shoutout to Andy for the same color in the background, I see you. Side eye to Greg, was the light left on by mistake? Did he do it intentionally to somewhat color match? Either way I see you.
Kevin, I respect your unwillingness to change... nice office.
Nick, Jesus Christ what the hell.
Peter Serafinowicz is also the voice of Darth Maul in Episode 1!
My ranking would be:
1. Hot Fuzz
2. Shaun of the Dead
3. The World’s End
4. Baby Driver
5. Scott Pilgrim
I think Hot Fuzz is far superior to SOTD. HF might be the greatest comedy action movie of the 21st century.
The World’s End is very underrated. Went in a slightly different direction and was pretty bleak at times. I can understand why people don’t like it. I found the character of Gary King very interesting, tragic and unfortunately somewhat relatable at times.
I agree but it always pains me that i like Hot Fuzz more because Shaun of the Dead was one of the first films I got obsessed with
@@rahblud9020 I’m a huge fan of The Wicker Man so Hot Fuzz has that going for it too.
I like to thank everyone who recommend this In Review to Kinda Funny. Because this is the first time I watched any Edgar Wright film (I know, I lived under a rock) and I loved it! I cannot wait to watch Hot Fuzz!
Hot fuzz is absolutely incredible! By far my favourite
Nick: I know I’m in bad company
Kevin: What does that F***ING mean!
That got me good!!
So good to see Mighty Boosh getting some recognition finally. Also, that intro is SICK!
Fuck yes
Is Kevin’s screen flickering for anyone else? Like his light is flickering or something? Maybe it’s his camera
I see it on his forehead

I remember a lock in as a kid at Laser Quest (laser tag place) and I went to a few Bowling Alley lock ins as an adult where they keep it open overnight and serve alcohol while you hang out and play with friends. The bowling alley there was no sleeping, you just hung out and drank with your friends til morning.
I lived 45 minutes from a place called Laser Quest I went to as a teen and now I'm wondering if that's a franchise or if you just happen to live near me.
This movie is so solid. From front to back, it's introducing new info about characters and evolving your understanding of them in clever and funny ways. One of my favorite - and definitely one of my most watched - zombie movies.
Peter Serafinowicz is also the voice of Darth Maul in Phantom Menace. He was also mentioned in passing by you guys recently - he was the actor who lent his voice to a character in Dark Souls II that Imran mentioned during Greg’s bloodborne play through.
If you guys enjoyed the cameos please PLEASE watch spaced!
Hear me out:
GREAT BRITISH BAKE OFF IN REVIEW
That idea is a bit claggy, while your showstopper was studgy. In other words, yes !
Taskmaster in review
When I first watched this film I was so tripped out because the house and street they filmed on is 15 mins from my house and Id pass it walking to school everyday
Credit to nick for getting it spot on about lock ins. Used to stay at my old local until about 1am, they closed at 11pm.
If Elyse picked up the conference call I would have lost it, awesome in Review as usual!
One of my favourite references in the film is the music in the 'slice of fried gold' montage is from the original 1978 Dawn of the Dead
I kinda wish they got a british person for this, I volunteer.
I've never seen this movie but I was wondering
Sup with the GONZO for GORDO???
Kevin's camera was hurting my eyes with the flickering lights
Ah man they didn’t discuss the great “couple of bloody Mary’s-bite at the kings head” speech! Lays out the whole plot of the movie. Such a perfect bit of dialogue.
What a way to start this year!
I'm a Brit ,a lockdown is ...pubs have to shut and stop serving alcohol at 11pm but if u know the pub owner n Ur a regular at whatever pub the pub owner locks the doors ,dims the lights n quietens down as if it's shut so you can carry on drinking into the early hours, aka a lockdown.
I meant lock in .
Andy's expressions while the playing of Yub Nub speaks volumes! Lol.
Kinda Funny making the content we have always wanted.
Hell yes! I am so pumped for this!!! What an intro!!!
First movie I ever saw twice in the theater, loved it so much. Also the local arcade had lockins on Fridays as a kid, 20 bucks and the games and food were covered for the night.
I can’t believe it wasn’t mentioned that this was the first of the Cornetto (the icecream) trilogy.
Shaun picks up a red strawberry Cornetto, red being the theme because of the blood and gore.
Hot Fuzz it’s a blue vanilla Cornetto, blue for the police colour.
The World’s End it’s a peppermint with choc chip Cornetto, a green wrapper, green represents science fiction and extraterrestrial elements.
The Three Flavours Cornetto Trilogy was like my religion in High School! It makes me really happy that you guys are doing this.
Yes! Shawn of the dead was the first dvd I got to choose and buy with my pocket money. 10 years old in a Virgin Megastores with my dad :)
Also, Nick is right with the Lock in
Me screaming at my computer saying "CALL CARBONI YOU FOOLS"
100% had lock-ins when I was a kid as well, it was definitely middle school for us. Usually the athletic center where the health teacher had a weekend job. Movies, basketball, indoor pool, pizza party.
A lock In is after the pub closes the owner lets you stay and keep drinking
Aww, Kevin regarding Paula during the zombie apcoalyse, that touches the heart.
Lock in in my part of Australia is when they close the pub but regulars or friends of staff usually stay and can keep drinking usually with the staff. It is technically illegal though haha
As a Brit, I think this film although can appeal to an international audience caters to UK audience on a higher level simply from all of the Easter eggs/throw back of Pegg’s past stuff. It appeals to an international audience firstly by name and then by topic which just makes it an easier watch regardless of where you’re from. All these years later I think it’s just a film that everyone can enjoy to the full because of break down videos etc.
Love your guys commentary on it, really fascinating to hear your onsite and opinions!!
Peter Serafankowitz was also in SPaced, and moreso, he's the voice of Darth Maul in star wars movies.
Loved this in review!
dude I need to write in a haiku for the next video what level patreon do I need to be to do so?!
What a very Scott Pilgrim intro!
I've only seen the intro... 10/10
Now for the review
My favorite comedy. I'm obsessed.
I cant recommend checking out some of Peter Serafinowicz sketch stuff enough. Hes done some bonkers stuff, like The Butterfield Diet or The Kitchen Gun.
Love the English/British love - Very excited to see what you guys think of Hot Fuzz, my personal fave of the Cornetto Trilogy
I'm so dang hyped! LETS GO Best Friends. All time favourite director
Pete was also the voice of Darth Maul in the Phantom Menace.
I know im late to this so sorry if its been mentioned but this film is the 1st of the cornetto trilogy, the cornetto is strawberry (red) as it represents the zombies. The second is hot fuzz and its original (blue) which represents the police. And the 3rd is the worlds end and its mint (green) which represents the aliens.
Love this films and great to watch you guys review them 🙂
We didn't do the "lock in" in Pittsburgh when we were kids hahaha
Oh shit! Wright in Review has begun!!! This is going to be a wild ride, folks. BUCKLE UP!
I feel so much better about not being able to whistle now.
Nick has it right about the lock in its when the bar shuts yet regulars stay and carry on drinking
A lock in is when you bring boxes of beers and then you are staying the night, no ubers home or pick ups
A pub version would be the same just no boxes of beers
All the references to the actor that played Pete are incorrect but maybe also correct. The real correct answer of the other movie he was in, John Wick 2
We ever gonna get an Ocean's in review? 11,12,13 and 8? There's a crew, cool heist sequences and...um....there's 8.....
1¹
Pete is also the voice actor for darth maul.
This series also needs an "MVP"--and to add onto that, for the Flavours Cornetto Trilogy it's not allowed to be Nick Frost because it's too easy and there are arguments to be made in all three movies for other characters... Just throwing that out there...
The intro is incredible
I also went to school in Texas and our lock-ins were in the gym at the elementary school. Did we play N64 on the roll-away TVs? Yes. Did we eat a mountain of Peter Piper Pizza? Yes. Did it kick ass? Yes.
How did they not discuss at all the fact they arent doing Edgar's first film?!?
Edgar Wright called them out on this on Twitter, but has since deleted the tweet.
@@maddoggnick96 he deleted probably because he realized it isn't available anywhere to stream. Greg replied to him about it

@@kindafunny thats what i had assumed was reason. Just thought Greg or Tim would have brought it up.
The day when you guys do Quentin Tarantino in review is the day I will chug two full bottles of fireball in happiness.
I do love them discussing and looking back at British comedy from the early 2000's with the inclusion of the other gang towards the end of the film. Being British myself I grew up with and absolutely love Black Books, The Office, Little Britain, Spaced and Mighty Boosh among others. A brilliant show to check out would be Garth Marenghi's Darkplace.
This got me thinking about some great british films. Did Dead Mans Shoes (a stone cold classic!) ever make any noise stateside?
Fun Fact about the Trilogy of Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz and The World’s End. Each movie they are eating a Ice cream “ Cornetto” hence the strawberry”red” blood. Chocolate Hot fuzz and Mint for Aliens The World’s end.. Also know as the Cornetto Trilogy.
Have they talked about Star Wars ep1? If so, Pete has been in 3 In Review episodes. He was the voice of Darth Maul
Wow. And here my school had “lock ins” where there was a shooter or threat or something of the like in or around the school. They lock all the doors and huddle in corners, away from windows, turn off the lights, stuff like that. We had a police chase a mile from my school and ended up locked in the classroom for 4 hrs.
i vividly remember when i first saw this movie. my step-dad rented it and i complained that i had to stop playing GTA: San Andreas on PS2, which had just came out iirc for him to use the PS2 as a DvD player, so i was pissed off that i didn't want to watch the movie with them, because i was a shitty little kid basically, but after i stopping being a little crybaby about it we started the movie, and i was instantly obsessed with it. rewatched it 5 times before we had to return the DvD, rented it again a bunch of times after that. such a classic!
I missed In Review Greg Miller: the meme version of Greg, who goes full Greg Miller for the whole show
that intro is awesome!
I know it says movie but I wish you guys would watch spaced
I friggin love this movie
One of my favorite directors ever, and obviously Scott Pilgrim is my favorite of his movies. Can't wait until you get there.
I feel so much better for not being able to whistle now
Beck would be proud of that intro
1:41:00 surprised Jacob Fullerton from FunHaus wasn't mentioned here
Chris Martin from Coldplay is in the movie because Simon Pegg is the godfather of Martin and Gwyneth Paltrow's child. They're close friends. The more you know!
Sooo stoked for Tim to watch John Wick. Such a good series, and he fortunately has the setup for it. I watched John wick 2 in 4dx and it was incredible.
THE INTROOOO
The Cornetto Trilogy is one of my favorites! Can’t wait for Hot Fuzz 👌
Had to come and like this for the intro god damn
This is my favorite In Review, hands down.
It's the Batman Soundtrack by Prince being thrown, not the Danny Elfman score. And yeah whatever, it is Prince, but if you're looking for disposable record in a pinch.
Lucy is not English! Not knowing what a lock in is? What?
This isn’t a age thing. It’s not just an English thing. It’s also a Welsh and Scottish thing. We have last orders, at the end people are kicked out. Loyal patrons are invited to. “Lock in” where they can continue to order drink sometimes at a discount. As long as you’re not too pissed. I am baffled that Lucy didn’t know this?!!’b
Lucy you’re British, you should know what a lock in is!!!
Please do Lockstock and Snatch sometime. Those movies are so much and they are the begining of Jason Statham's career.
My second favorite Edgar Wright movie, behind only Hot Fuzz. Also, yub nub apparently means freedom.
"slow dumb zombies like this? This is the dream. Fast ones like 28 days later? You eat the bullet right away" That made me actually lol. Probably because its true.
Took me a while to decode this (find a youtube comment with it) but here's the translation to Yub Nub:
Freedom
we got freedom
and now that we can be free
come on and celebrate
Power
we got power
and now that we can be free
it's time to celebrate
Celebrate the freedom
celebrate the power
celebrate the glory
celebrate the love
Power
we got power
and now that we can be free
it's time to celebrate
Celebrate the light (freedom!)
celebrate the night (power!)
celebrate the fight (glory!)
celebrate the love
celebrate the love
celebrate the love
Glory
we found glory
the power showed us the light
and now we all live free
Celebrate the love
*wipes tears from eyes* Yub Nub means freedom.
