The kid little Kirk passes is ACTUALLY Kirks older brother. The other kid looks like a Kirk because he is one. There were 2 deleted scenes that set up Kirk & his brother getting angry at their step father resulting in him stealing the car.
I got so excited when this showed up in my Podcast feed. Then I started listening and was like, “Oh... I guess it’s just the Abrams films...”

I had no idea this was the next series and I just happened to watch them all this weekend.
Umm no, the actors from the original series were all North American. None of those accents were their own. Walter Koenig (Chekov) is not Russian, in fact his accent is lambasted by real Russians like Anton Yelchin. James Doohan (Scotty) is also NOT an actual Scotsman.

Nick’s argument about going back and saving Romilus doesn’t quite make sense because...thats what they did. They went back to destroy the Federation, whom Nero (erroneously) blamed for the destruction of Romulus (even though it was a natural event), and when Nero realized he could also get revenge on Spock, he did. Remember, this is not a rational person, rather a hurt and hating person making rash decisions based on negative emotions.
DanV900 Yes, he is dumb. He is irrational. His logic makes no sense. He is overly emotional. Thats the point of the character. Its not a problem with the script. That was my point.
Not sure how Tim and the gang couldn't come up with another actor who has had a great run in many franchises and hit films while literally in the middle of recapping a Karl Urban scene.

The exaggerated accent is a homage to the original chekov accent. Its supposed to be a bit over the top (not originally, but in the 2009 movie). This is the one in-review I wish I could have been a part of, as a big Star Trek fan.
Keep these up, guys. These in-reviews have provided lots of entertainment in recent weeks.
Decided to go back and watch this because I remembered you guys were doing this. It's been about 8 years since I last saw it, and I was SHOCKED at how fun and exciting it was. I loved it!
I vaguely remember loving Into Darkness too though, hope it isn't TOO bad.

Scotty in the original was Canadian. Also Spock was reborn when he came back he embraced his human side more and did more jokes.
Even before being reborn Spock had a thin layer of calm with an ocean of emotions right under the surface.
I'm sure someone pointed this out already but I didn't see it with a quick glance but the TOS actors were not using natural accents. Chekov's actor Walter Koenig is American and James Doohan who played Scotty was Canadian.
Nick I've been saying Karl Urban should be Batman since the Nolan movies ended.
Shame they wasted him in Ragnarok because he'd be perfect as Wolverine too.

Nick is wrong. Scotty(James Doohan) was Canadian from BC. Chekov(Walter Koenig) was from Chicago rom the original show. They had no accents IRL. FYI.

Without a doubt, the best casting was Karl Urban. He looks nothing like the small, petit southern fellow that is Deforest Kelley yet was a perfect McCoy.

Star Trek 2009 is great because the direction is solid and the cast is phenomenal but, holy shit, the script is garbage. The cast saves it because their chemistry is off the charts, and it's entertaining as all hell, but good lord how do Orci/Kurtzman keep getting work?
Also, its Ooh-hoo-ra, not O-hor-a.

As a massive Trekkie, I love how much Greg seems to "get" Star Trek. I kinda feel like he'd actually enjoy older Trek too.
Walter Koenig was born in Chicago - he did not have a Russian accent in real life.

Tim is a surprisingly good stand-up comedian.

they had chekov do the transporter because he understood how the gravity was affecting the planet, and therefore how fast kirk and sulu are falling. which is still kinda dumb because he could probably send that info over to the transporter room pretty easily and quickly.

My personal ranking of the Kelvin Timeline Movies:
1.) Beyond.... Felt the most like a legit episode of the series. Great action and story, also a nice tip-of-the-hat tribute to Nimoy as Spock Prime near the end.
2.) Star Trek 2009.... Doesn't necessarily feel like "Trek", but it does act as a great jumping-off point, being both a reboot AND sequel.
3.) Into Darkness.... Just falls flat as a pseudo-redux of "Wrath of Khan".
I never understood the issues with Into Darkness. I watch the Star Trek movies for the fun ride. I watch the show for the more cerebral story telling.

They honestly probably didn’t review them because the community rightfully roasts them everytime they watch something basically released pre Iron Man in 2008 because they say everything is dated and is not like the MCU or whatever is popular in pop culture at the current time. Looking at Kevin and Tim but I wish they would it’s always fascinating to see a group as hilarious as this whom almost exclusively watch modern films look back at some classics to see what they think.

Will you guys ever do the actual Star Trek films? I know Tim seems super averse to it since it's, in his own words, the "super nerd loser thing", but now that he's become more politically active, educated, and aware, I feel he might be better primed and in a more open-minded position to enjoy Star Trek then he was at the time, at least I would like to think so.

I’m not even 10 minutes in and I’m already at Greg watching Justice League level of annoyed.
The movie is fun at times, yes, but I found all of their characters so uneven. I’m not the biggest Trek fan but I do love most of the original movies. This movie is so far removed from the source material. Any connection between the original is superficial. And the lens flares! OMG!! I hate them so much.
I tend to overreact and say that I hate the first two. They get on my nerves so much. The third one is one of my favorites though. Everything got better. The character interactions. The costumes. The cinematography.
Oh. And no. Walter Koenig does not have that accent irl. Sigh🙄
