There isn’t enough data to properly rank it, but I would be curious to see where Star Trek: The Motion Picture: The Director’s Edition (Presented in 4K) lands on the list. I think it is on par with the other films good films (if not better). The theatrical cut of the film is essentially a rough cut: Paramount would not allow the director Robert Wise to polish the film after the premiere (post production was extremely rushed) and the firsts cut was delivered the same day as the premiere) because the studio felt the press would ravage the film as a mess if it were fixed after the first showing (hurting the opening weekend box office). Now that the film is officially finished, I would saying it is a very solid picture. Alternatively, the changes between the director’s cuts of The Wrath of Khan and The Undiscovered Country are much smaller, and like most director’s cuts the editing is not as tight, but there are more character moments, so it really depends on what the viewer wants. Personally, I would rank TOS films as follows: 7. The Final Frontier 6. The Motion Picture (Theatrical Cut) 5. The Search for Spock 4. The Voyage Home 3. The Motion Picture (Director’s Edition) 2. Generations (i saw you there, I saw you then... the saddest words "What might have been...") 13. Beyond. While technically a betrer film than into darkness it just ditched all believability too much for me.
Beyond is also easily my least favorite Star Trek movie and the only one I think is bad. I have watched it a couple times, thinking maybe I didn't give it enough of a chance the first time; and I probably will never watch it again. The ridiculous way the Enterprise is destroyed (everyone should be dead) and the stupid solution of playing music. It's beyond what is believable
@@gunkulator1Perhaps, but the score is still light years ahead of anything from the JJ era. And there were some nice bits, before 'the Barrier' stuff... Watching JJ (and Kurtzman) Trek, well, it just isn't Trek, made by people (other than Terry Matalas) who know and seemingly care nothing about it.

👍Galaxy Quest always has an honoured place in Star Trek. It has earned it and easily ranked number 6 - 8. I enjoyed your latest video and it inspired me to watch again your earlier Galaxy Quest video and then the movie.
Funny how people will say JJ abrams isnt “real trek” or “real star wars” then they will say spaceballs or galaxy quest counts as a franchise its making fun of? Non sense. Trek is trek, the orville isnt trek. Fan made youtube videos aren’t trek. Paramount owns it, those people are theives

There was a time when I could rank these movies. But every Star Trek movie ever made I can easily watch and enjoy it. Even with the flaws, I still enjoy each one equally.
My ranking is different mostly because of my positive feelings about The Motion Picture, but I also share Roddenberry's issues with The Undiscovered Country. Galaxy Quest doesn't really do it for me, either, but I suppose I'd have to rank it over most of the TNG movies. --- The Great Ones --- 1. The Motion Picture 2. The Wrath of Khan 3. I'd put any/all of the original crew movies ahread of Generations, Insurrection, Nemesis and Into Darkness. ST5 has its flaws but it's still a fun watch - and has the classic "what does God need..." line 🙂
Anything good in Star Trek V is massively outweighed by the cringey and bad. Uhura's fan dance anyone? Yeesh. How about Scotty bumping his head against a beam? ho ho ho.
@@gunkulator1 Yeah those are garbage scenes and Kirk telling Spock to shoot Sybock is stupid, however the campfire scenes and the dynamic between the big three outway the movies flaws in my opinoin and if the effects were redone I think it would hold up a lot better
Y'all severely underrate The Undiscovered Country. Probably the greatest finish to a series ever. First Contact is a little overrated: time travel as a gimmick when it should've been an all out war. Search For Spock is a great movie too. Stealing the Enterprise and the entire last act are all epic.
I mean, who chose him to direct the movies? Could you imagine saying that at a job interview for any job? "We want you to film Star Trek movies for us." "I hate Star Trek. It's lame. Don't really know much about it. But sure!" "Excellent! You're the perfect person for the job!" ???? It's hard to get more moronic than that

Glad to see Generations getting some love I always thought it was good and also I think 2009 is really good and I have it 3rd after Khan and First Contact🖖🏿
The Final Frontier is definitely the weakest of the original films, but it has a few wonderful scenes. The opening and closing with Kirk, Spock, and McCoy camping are some of the best scenes in all the films. The scene where McCoy breaks free of Syboks control is also good. There are a few others too. Kirk: "Initiate emergency landing plan .......B". Chekov: "What's emergency landing plan B"? Scotty: "I don't have a clue". Kirk: "B. As in barricade". Scotty: "He can't be serious".
At age 43, lifelong fan, went to conventions, and raising my kids on chronological release order of Star Trek, my ranking: 1. ST:TMP 2. ST:III 3. ST:V (extra nostalgia points - saw it in one of the last U.S. Cinerama theaters) 4. ST:II 5. ST:IV 6. Galaxy Quest 27. Generations (but cannot watch Kirk’s death) 28. First Contact (but this is a break from Picard’s actual character 29. Insurrection (mostly harmless) 30. ST:VI. Forces the characters to not be their original versions. 31. Nemesis. Several Trek characters are recognizable but all are in a non-Trek movie. Not included on the list: those Bad Robot movies called “Star Trek” for some reason. I think he meant to call them “Star Trek: a JJ Star Wars Reboot Sizzle Reel” Oh and despite also being raised on all Star Wars and Marvel stuff, my kids love ST:TMP best of the movies.

Voyage Home - Fun, and super rewatchable 5. Search for Spock - had some cool scenes and lore 6. Nemesis - great character moments and rewatchable 7. The Motion Picture - Iconic, but just a bit padded out 8. Generations - Extended tv episode feel 9. Star Trek (2009) - Good for a few watches then becomes like a cosplay show 10. The Final Frontier - Had some great character moments but felt like a B-Movie version of Trek 11. Insurrection - Another TV Episode feeling entry, but without any redeeming quality 12. Into Darkness - Pirating ideas from other films and making a frankenstein's monster of a movie is not cool. 13. Beyond - Garbled action noise ala Fast and Furious
Enjoying the video. Great work guys. I've mixed agreements between the viewer and your own ranking. However I just want throw in my 10c. I think the best film is Star Trek VI, it's fantastic in nearly every way, plus on a shoestring budget at the time, still holds up today in terms of visuals.

I agree with most of this, but I'd put Galaxy Quest dead center, and move Star Trek 6 higher. I agree with the worst ones. Depending on my mood, sometimes I rank Into Darkness at the bottom, sometimes Nemesis, and 5 is always the one after that.
This would be a difficult task. First, the Kelvin Universe is a completely Other take. The original cast has so much cache that I'd put all of theres on one scale and the Kelvin on another. Otherwise, for me, even though I enjoyed them, they'd be at the end of the list. Kind of the same with TOS and TNG. All TOS at the top (even 5), and TNG next. While Wrath of Kahn was better, The Motion Picture was great, as long as you take into account that ST movies were new and had a massive learning curve (how do you make something a decade after the show that ramps up to movie level? The intros of the characters was fantastic, and even the coast around Enterprise was amazing... speaking from seeing it in the theaters at the time).
I like The Motion Picture, Wrath of Khan, and Undiscovered Country in no fixed order. Saying The Motion Picture is "slow" is like saying Alien is slow or Unforgiven.

After all, he had zero obligation to work alongside Shatner just because he already had with Nimoy. And he would have left the series on a _high note_ as well! I must be a true contrarian with my rankings, given that 'Wrath' is nowhere near the top of the list.
As with the earlier made series list, yours is the better, more accurate list of what's legitimately good Star Trek. This makes sense, because the averages from the population include people with a poor understanding of the material, a long with those with a deep understanding.
I agree with you on 'Wrath of Khan', it's only real competition is the Star Wars film 'The Empire Strikes Back'. But I would have made Star Trek 6 number 2, Star Trek 4 number 3, Star Trek 'First Contact' number 4, and (that's right) Star Trek 'Beyond' numbers 5. Despite wanting to keep it from being too 'StarTrekkie', 'Beyond' is the ONLY Trek movie of the 3 eras that feels like a REAL episode of the Original Star Trek! P.S.- No F'n LENS FLARES, EXPLODING planet Volcan, Illogical romance between Spock and Uhura, or the SIN of FLIPPING Kirk out for Spock in a sad effort. Finally, Benedict Cumberbach does a fine job as Khan, but it is POLITICAL CORRECT BULL-SHIT to insist on ALL VILLAINS being STRAIGHT WHITE MALES! Out!!
Disagree pretty much with everybody's lists. I think everybody's different and everybody has their own order. Some of the ones I like you have at the end and some of the ones you have at the top I would have at the end. To each his own

I personally liked the final frontier - the issue with ranking anything is its highly subjective. Perhaps the directing was not up to par, but the basic story and character arcs were good. The Star TRek motion picture was my number one.
Exactly. Final Frontier will never be the best ST Movie, but it had a lot of true Star Trek themes, like the delusional belief in Gods and honestly, “What does god need with a Star Ship?” Is one of the best lines in ST history. Also when Kirk resisted having his pain taken away, saying it was his pain that made him who he was and gave him his strength. See The Enemy Within when he was unable to function when his two halves were separated. False gods and deep character studies have been a staple of Trek since the beginning. This movie actually embodies much of what Star Trek is. But that’s just me. I just wanted to do decent @peterfmodel in case anyone decided to jump all over him
I personally found Nemesis to be a decent film. Sure it's a re-make of Khan, but it's better than all 3 JJ re-makes of Khan. I think the reason fans hate it is because Data gets destroyed. Which was long overdue since Data had turned into the "Miracle of the Week" character.

Not bad but the Voyage home is the best no question also Insurrection is actually really good. I know people say it feels like an extended episode of next Gen but last I checked we liked next gen that's why we watched the movie. Just saying
@@startrekker6913 Very tough ranking for me. There actually isn't 1 that I dislike. Top 5 could almost be in any order for me. Same with bottom 5 really.
@@trekgate3005 Excluding the Motion Picture which although it looks good id just so boring, I also love them all there is no truly bad Star Trek film they all have there good points

1. The Wrath of Khan
@@startrekker6913I agree, but Voyage is a toughie and I still have to place it in a close second if not a tie. Insurrection is better than it it is usually ranked.

11. Insurrection
12. Generations (i saw you there, I saw you then... the saddest words "What might have been...")
It's beyond what is believable
how all of the JJ movies are not bottom three is crazy
Because despite trying to wipe our collective memories of it, Star Trek V still exists.
Thank you!
This
Give me a break.
You have Star Trek 6 below ST5, Generations, and 2009. Wow.
Yeah, really makes you question their judgment.

One of the great things about RUclips is that occasionally you find a really interesting channel. This is one such channel. Well done. WofK was fantastic!!!
Fun video! But “The Search for Spock” got robbed! (Love the movie!) 😎
I agree with Star Trek 2 - the best of the Star Trek films.
👍Galaxy Quest always has an honoured place in Star Trek. It has earned it and easily ranked number 6 - 8. I enjoyed your latest video and it inspired me to watch again your earlier Galaxy Quest video and then the movie.
Galaxy Quest reminds me of me of my first Star Trek con when Ed Bishop of UFO had to go into make-up to look like Commander Stryker.
There is no franchise too great for jar jar Abrams to not Waltz in and Destroy with his complete irreverence and idiocy.
I dunno. Shatner came pretty damn close.
I don’t blame JJ, its not his fault the fans all became idiots when the internet came out
JJ kelvin timeline is not bad. I mean lens flares. Hello.
I remember Jar Jar being heralded as “The Next Spielberg”.
Yeah ok 👌

3. The Motion Picture (Director’s Edition)
2. The Undiscovered Country
1. The Wrath of Khan
--- The Great Ones ---
1. The Motion Picture

I have into darkness at 13th place. For sure my list is different from both lists lol. With picard season 3 considered by some the final TNG finale/movie. Would be interesting to see how it would rate on the list

Coming after First Contact Insurtection was boind to disappoint but it's still a fun ride
I'd put any/all of the original crew movies ahread of Generations, Insurrection, Nemesis and Into Darkness. ST5 has its flaws but it's still a fun watch - and has the classic "what does God need..." line 🙂
Wow. I'm shocked you put Star Trek V at #6 on your list. I think I agree with the overall ranking that it's in the bottom 3.
No way. It's got some of the best character building between the main characters of any of the movies.
Definitely should be near the bottom. Kirk would never tell Spock to kill his brother.
@@spock7of961 his brother was a madman who is going to get everyone killed by freeing an evil god.
Well done gents! Loved the video, even though I disagree with some of your rankings!
I love these composite ranking videos.
"I stopped listening to you when you said you don't like Star Trek."😂😂
I mean, who chose him to direct the movies? Could you imagine saying that at a job interview for any job?
"We want you to film Star Trek movies for us."
"I hate Star Trek. It's lame. Don't really know much about it. But sure!"
"Excellent! You're the perfect person for the job!"
???? It's hard to get more moronic than that
31:15 The movie would go on to make $97 million dollars. But your screen shows “130 million”
Adjusted for inflation…
As a child, I was disappointed in TMP. As an adult, The Motion Picture is an incredible movie, and deserves a top 5 ranking at minimum.
Great video! I'm out of town on business & can't wait to get back home today.
1) Wrath of Khan
2) Undiscovered Country
3) Voyage Home
4) First Contact
5) Search for Spock
6) The Motion Picture
7) Star Trek 2009
8) Generations
9) Insurrection
10) Star Trek V
11) Into Darkness

13) Beyond
I largely agree with this ranking. Great job!
13) Final frontier (nice nap)
3) First contact (good fun)
2) Wrath of khan (best villain)
1) Undiscovered country (best overall film)
At age 43, lifelong fan, went to conventions, and raising my kids on chronological release order of Star Trek, my ranking:
1. ST:TMP
2. ST:III
3. ST:V (extra nostalgia points - saw it in one of the last U.S. Cinerama theaters)
4. ST:II
5. ST:IV
6. Galaxy Quest
27. Generations (but cannot watch Kirk’s death)
28. First Contact (but this is a break from Picard’s actual character
29. Insurrection (mostly harmless)
30. ST:VI. Forces the characters to not be their original versions.
31. Nemesis. Several Trek characters are recognizable but all are in a non-Trek movie.
Not included on the list: those Bad Robot movies called “Star Trek” for some reason. I think he meant to call them “Star Trek: a JJ Star Wars Reboot Sizzle Reel”
Oh and despite also being raised on all Star Wars and Marvel stuff, my kids love ST:TMP best of the movies.
Near Perfect list - Its almost exactly how I would have ranked the films too. i agree to its definitiveness 😁
My Star Trek Ranking:
1. Wrath of Khan - Classic and extremely rewatchable
2. Undiscovered Country - Real character stuff
3. First Contact - Perfect follow up to TNG
4. Voyage Home - Fun, and super rewatchable
5. Search for Spock - had some cool scenes and lore
6. Nemesis - great character moments and rewatchable
7. The Motion Picture - Iconic, but just a bit padded out
8. Generations - Extended tv episode feel
9. Star Trek (2009) - Good for a few watches then becomes like a cosplay show
10. The Final Frontier - Had some great character moments but felt like a B-Movie version of Trek
11. Insurrection - Another TV Episode feeling entry, but without any redeeming quality
12. Into Darkness - Pirating ideas from other films and making a frankenstein's monster of a movie is not cool.
13. Beyond - Garbled action noise ala Fast and Furious
Galaxy Quest Number 1, I love that movie
Nicolas Myers was considered to work on Nemesis with the TNG crew. They should have gotten him, and let him rewrite the movie. Hindsight!
We’re like roaches and they brought out all the Trekkies with that video lol
as an extra on IV, I knew that my foreground cross in front of Nimoy would make this movie a hit.....
First Contact is my favorite by a mile! I also would rank Into Darkness and Beyond much higher. Fun video!
I watched this video on my phone while dropping a loaf.
Me too!

Star Trek Wrath of Kahn will Always be the BEST movie of the franchise
I love the Humour in Star Trek 5 Obviously I am pretty much alone in my thoughts and I love the fact the massive blooper of the same level going past our heroes as they shoot up the turbo lift on Spock's boots is still in the film!
The Wrath of Khan is quality, But Star Trek 4 & 6 are more enjoyable & rewatchable IMO

I agree with most of this, but I'd put Galaxy Quest dead center, and move Star Trek 6 higher. I agree with the worst ones. Depending on my mood, sometimes I rank Into Darkness at the bottom, sometimes Nemesis, and 5 is always the one after that.
Pretty spot on, but I would swap 'The Voyage Home' and 'First Contact' personally.
Nice work.
1 - Wrath of Khan
2 - Search for Spock

I for one wish that Harve Bennett had walked away from the film series after 'Voyage'.
Out!!

It depends on the person which Star Trek movie is the best.
