I think the twin shot would actually work best during stealth rather than pitched battle with multiple enemies. Where you have time to set up beforehand and multiple targets in one shot is potentially really important.
@@SkeazixThere is extremely low chance, that they would die before setting up an alarm… I mean - the most basic equipment is helmet. And with helmet, there is no chance to get an arrow through the killswitch part of the brain. They may die fast, if hit in vital spots, but not that fast… At least 60 seconds… It would ve more usefull for ambushes of unarmored groups, thining their battle-capable numbers before engaging in meelee and precision shooting…
Amazing. I never really thought that twinshots were actually doable. Impressive to see the difference in penetrating power between one and two arrows, too.
Back when I LARPed, I'd do the two arrow shot (or three arrow shot, because I could) at the START of a fight, because you can walk around with 2-3 arrows nocked and it's no big deal. Very rarely did it during a fight, unless I was well protected by the melee fighters, because set up time is real.
I didn't even know you could do LARP battles Gotta ask though, how does archery work in LARP sessions? Do you use a particular type of bow and arrows or do you just straight up murder people and not get sentenced for a crime because it was just roleplaying?
@@BanconotaBill Most games that allow it (those that don't force nerf or those arrows with the rubber band) have a limit of 25-25# and you use special arrows with large foam tips (back in the day you made arrows out of golf club protection tubs, film canister lids, and foam, but nowadays you buy the ones that have been tested for this) these are the same arrows used in arrow tag (or very simmilar). You also don't pull back all the way unless far away, much like you don't full on power-swing in melee.
It seems to me the main advantage of this would be if you were firing at cavalry. Double the arrows = double the holes in the horse = more likely the horse is gonna trip up, buck its rider, fall down, etc.
@@Chadius_ThundercockFor spreading out the arrows, yes. For lining them both on the same target, it's pretty similar to using a single arrow. Also, horses are big, so there's a lot more leeway for aim.
Been involved in archery in the SCA for almost two decades now, and there really is only one truly practical use for the twin shot: Your first shot in a speed round at a fixed target. Other than that, single shots are more powerful, more accurate, and faster to make.
I feel the two arrow, two targets shot is good to start a battle sneakily. You’re in a ditch or on top of a wall or something, they can’t see you, and you can wait for perfect spacing and take out two targets at once. VERY narrow scope, but still has a use ig
This is one of those things that's just perfect as an opening blow. You take the time preparing befóre a battle commences, then claim advantage by starting out with a more-forceful-than-normal blow.
I could see the two target shot working in a stealth setting. Say a character is breaking into a location and knows there will be two guards posted at the front door and some bushes across from them, he could plan that shot ahead of time and pull it off realistically
This was so cool! Thanks for making the video. Quick question though, is practical to try and scavenge used arrows after a battle to try and use them again, or is it not worth the effort, unless you're low on resources?
Depends on how long you've got. You'd need to check them all for damage before shooting, and most arrows that hit a hard target or landed amidst fighting will be too damaged to use. Misses embedded in the ground could be useful, but you have to find them first.
It's also worth bearing in mind that arrows not 'tuned' to your bow will be less accurate, and arrows made for a much lighter bow might break when you shoot them. Less of an issue when you're shooting volleys and everyone has roughly the same sort of bow, but for precision shooting it's good to have distinctive arrows so that you don't end up with someone else's
I could see this being used in situations where your opponent is unaware of you or how many of you there are and you wanna keep both of those advantages.
I'm glad you mentioned Aloy, because that loss of power doesn't matter as much for her when she's using one of her many arrows with some form of chemical tip. Doesn't matter that you have less energy if the arrow explodes on impact. (As long as the arrow can?actually reach lol)
I think a more likely setup for a twin shot is when shooting horizontally. That gives you more freedom on the aiming. At least assuming that you can actually properly line up multiple arrows in the heat of a battle. Another setup might be if there's a lot of enemies and no allies in the line of fire, then you might not necessarily need to aim at all, there's a pretty good chance that you'll hit something.
I think there is an even more substantial loss in accuracy if you try to shoot more arrows at once. Multi shot is good at short range for a single target but is otherwise a bad idea.
More arrows hitting close to each other should be LESS lethal actually. That's for the same reason as to why sitting on a nail your pierce your butt, but sitting on a while board of nails is fine. On top of that, as he explained, the bows draw weight will also be divided between the arrows. So you are dividing the force delivered TWICE in the process. So I don't think using multiple arrows, hitting close to each other on the same target is realistically ever worth it.
I'm not an archer expert, but seeing that you can learn faster and faster shooting, it can be done as well with the twin shot. It seems like it's basically a matter of practice (and talent maybe, but you definetly have it). In a big fight with many opponent and maybe even being in a high/well protected position (like a tree or a ballistrade/fort) could be pretty effective.
You may be able to learn to do it faster, but a single shot will always be much faster than a twin shot. Try to clap your hands twice faster than you can clap them once. Unless you purposely slow down your single clap then the double will always be slower. There is just more movement involved in the twin shot, so there is no way to make it as fast or faster than a single shot. The twin shot splits the penetrating power of one arrow across both arrows, but takes almost the same amount of time as just firing two arrows. You'd usually be better off just firing two.
I used to shoot multipul arrows at once back in the day. So, yeah I agree with what you are about the practicality of shoot multipul arrows at once👍🏻👍🏻
Maybe the highest compliment to your archery skills is that I did not for a single moment consider you doing now than one take on any of the multiple arrow shots that hit near perfectly. 🥰
Maybe if you had two comrades having sword fights at just the right angles and you could get behind the enemies it would be a good idea? At the same time you could probably just shoot one first and then the other with better accuracy and just as quickly with the draw time difference. I'm sure there's situations where it has it's uses though.
How did you know that I wanted to know all this when I didn't even know it myself?

All he needs to do is wear tights and steal from the rich to give to the poor and he's the modern Robin Dude

That makes sense!
Yeah like a pair of sentries. Two people close together not moving much, and you don't want either to be able to give the alarm.
Or like what's commonly done by Aloy in HZD, where you use them for stealthy takedowns or just to get one big hit in entering combar

Even with minimal or no armor, horses are far larger and sturdier than humans. You'd likely prefer more penetration power with a single arrow.
