That "table" is a blonde Fender Deluxe 6 lap steel guitar; the lyrics have Gilmour reminiscing about a bucolic childhood, growing up in Cambridge, and the "high hopes" for a future before "time took our dreams away".

David Gilmour is an amazing musician singer and guitar player he is the complete package that aside. Here's one hell of a decent human being he does alot for charity all his guitars he auctioned off he gave to charities I really enjoy his interviews he is such a soft-spoken person well-mannered and great to interview. He actually replied to one of my comments on the Pink Floyd page

The Pulse version is better in my opinion, Dave’s voice sounds a little aged in this version but my hats are off to him to still be performing at his age. He’s still an awesome performer

I saw David Gilmour in concert in Chicago in 2016. At age 70, he still sounded amazing and the guitar playing was thrilling to hear in a live concert setting. That said, you can tell that 22 years have passed between the Pulse concert and this (and I prefer the Pulse version), but this performance is still beautiful. There is also a stunning acoustic version of this song he performed in 2006 that I recently discovered here on RUclips.

The Division Bell was toured as The Pulse Concert 1994, and videoed taped for a two set DVD. This performance here at Pompeii was in 2016 not 1994, you're confusing the two. David Gilmour is 70 years old here in 2016!
You should check out the 1994 Pulse videos, that Show was incredible! I believe it was at Earls Court.
Everything song performed from that Show was simply off the charts good! Not the least of is 'Comfortably Numb' and the over 4 minute song ending extended solo! Also, the best performance of 'Sorrow' I've ever heard, and i have heard them all.

It's a slide steel guitar - used quite commonly in country music. Dave also utilises it on the DSOTM album in the track 'The Great Gig in the Sky'.

This was the last track of the last Floyd album (before The Endless River), and the last three words of the lyrics were "forever and ever".

1994 PULSE live version with a younger David and 2 other Floyd members is the better one but this 2015/16 is still nice. Beautiful ending on this.

You are confusing the release date of the Division Bell album with the date of this concert. This live performance was from 2016. Gilmour was 70 years old.

I see that another dispute has arisen recently between Dave and Roger - this time the disagreement is regarding recalling events from the past. This time it’s all about who did what and who wrote what. Roger is claiming that he thought of this that and the other, whereas Dave is claiming in his autobiography that it was in fact himself who should be credited. Oh no, not another court case coming up!

David was always in it for the music Rodger stuck on his pride problem. He's an excellent musician Rodger and David's boys going back and forth was so good. Rodger needs to get over it it wasn't all about Waters it was the whole band if anybody should have been upset would have been Rick Wright he never got any attention

@@shanemccormick6072 David has plenty of ego himself and plenty of blame to share. Maybe Roder is *moreso*, but it's not as simple as Roger-bad, David-good. Neither wants to admit that they needed the other to reach their full potential. It's a strange because we've been prevented much beauty by their feud. And the real unheralded member of Pink Floyd is Nick Mason.

His instrument is called a lap steel or steel guitar in the states.

You’re voice is coming through fine, but the video audio is far too low in comparison.
    Just sayin.

Like most post 1985 Floyd...musically it’s interesting, melodic, accomplished and Gilmour is the master of tone and feel. On the other hand the lyrics are a bit naff and needlessly pretentious and the albums are a bit too polished and boring.

    • @jimj9729

There was never a more pretentious and boring album than The Final Cut. Everything since was a great improvement.
