  • In today's video I'll take you through all the settings you'll need for a quick and easy 5GHZ Overclock on a Z390 Aorus motherboard. I'm using the Master version, but the settings will be similar for all Aorus Z390 motherboards and compatible unlocked CPUs.
    The aim of this guide is to get you up and running as quickly as possible. For more detailed guides where I go into finer detail on what each of the settings do, as well as fine-tuning your overclock, check out this playlist:

    Hey, I first came across your channel a few days back through your racing sim post on Reddit and immediately searched you up. I started watching the sim video, however, i got distracted and never finished watching it. Fast forward to today, I searched how to OC with the Z390 Aorus and what a coincidence, here you are again. Followed your steps and I OC'd my 9900k to 5Ghz and made sure i subscribed this time around because you really helped me out. Thanks for the entertainment as well as the tutorials. I do have a quick question, I checked my CPU-Z and Core Temp, and i see the core speed fluctuate as low as 799Mhz to 5000Mhz while idling. Is that normal or is it supposed to be locked at 5000? Very helpful, I haven't OC'd in quite a while. I finally got around to turning up my 9900k. Was able to get 5.2ghz fully stable at 1.41v with no AVX offset on my Aorus pro. Enabling AVX offset caused my system to crash instantly after starting a stress test so I stopped messing with it. Only getting about 70C on more realistic loads and 93C on Cinebench R23 which is tolerable. I was able to get Cinebench to run at 1.33v at 5.2ghz, but I got errors and BSODs until I went up to 1.41 on other stress tests.
    Who knows I might even be able to hit 5.3 if I play around with it a bit more, disable C states, adjust other voltages and memory settings.

      @@danielcler3473 There's all kinds of reasons you could be unstable, settings/voltages that can be tweaked to change that. There is always a possibility you lost the silicone lottery and you may have to set the Vcore even higher. Memory is also big one, you can try lowering it the frequency if it's above 2666mhz, and/or increasing any memory related voltages. Just remember your basically playing fire, you can lose data or even fry components doing this, I would recommend doing more research.

    Im curious. I was using the aorus elite with a 9700k and i set cpu multiplier to 50 but left voltages on auto. running cinebench r20 i saw that at 100% load the vcore was over 1.4v. That just seemed way too high so i set it to a manual voltage and seems ok now (havnt rigorously tested it yet). It just seems like "auto" voltage will always provide additional voltage to ensure the desired clock works, but it the only check is that the system will thermally throttle and eventually the board/cpu gets worn out. In your vid you make it sound like auto voltage is an option, but based on what ive seen it doesnt seem to be a good option at all. would you mind elaborating? Is it because the 9700k likes higher voltages in general and thats why it doesnt work for that chip?

    Wonderful video thank you! A quick question because I am very new to this. Since you are running a fixed 5.0 GHz on all the cores shouldn’t you just turn off turbo boost technology? All cores are running at 5.0 all the time so no turbo is required. What am I missing here?

    With these settings, will the system still lower the frequency when you're not doing much on the PC such as simple browsing and watching a stream? Or will it always run at 5 GHz regardless of load?

    • @747-pilot
      @747-pilot 4 года назад

      If I'm not mistaken, it will ALWAYS run at the overclocked frequency (that is 5 GHz here) under all conditions, as the cores are now "locked" at this frequency. This will also mean, your system will always consume more power, compared to the stock setup. That's why only performance gamers, who always need maximum performance, and don't really care about power consumption, do this.

    Looking at doing this soon, but with an 8700k. I’m having to rebuild my pc, and figure I might as well step up to z390. Especially since these gigabyte boards have 3 m.2 slots! This guide is amazing and really easy to follow. I’m assuming I’d be starting at 1.25 or 1.3 with an 8700k though yea? Trying to hit that 5.0ghz mark.

      I’ve got some guides specifically for 8700k. I’d recommend starting at 1.3V and the. Working your way down. You should land somewhere around 1.24-1.28 for 5GHZ. Load line calibration will be lower too.

Fired it back up again and about 5 minutes in (playing DOOM ETERNAL) it crashed again. Lowered cpu voltage to 2.95 and crashed again. Should I just keep lowering the voltage settings until stable?
