- 1980 Glastron Carlson Scimitar inboard/outboard. Owned by Larry Morgan and family. Nearly completely original. It will be the "Classic Glass" poster boat for the 2023 ACBS-Toronto boat show in Gravenhurst.
Great boat and memories - I spent my summers at Turkey Point / Pottahawk and always admired your dad's boat as a young boy. My Grandpa had a trailer behind the store next to the Sandbar restaurant and would often see the boat in that area. To this day it is still my most favourite boat of all time. I am glad that you are still able to enjoy it!
Thanks for your nice comments! I'm sure that boat was all over the Turkey Point area back in the day. I still take it out to Pottahawk now and then, good memories!
That is a beautiful boat! I've always loved the Scimitar's, but never actually seen one in person. It's very cool it's been in your family since new....extremely rare to see that with a 44 year old boat! You can tell you've treated it very well, too.
The styling has aged very well. Beautiful.
one of the coolest boats ever made. love it.
Nice job Larry. Don would be so proud that this is still in the family and kept in such wonderful shape.
Too awesome like a water corvette I love it would love to have one
My great grandfather had a boat IDENTICAL to this one and boy does it bring back memories. I have my own boat now, but nothing that shakes a stick at the glastron scimitar. Absolute gorgeousness in a boat
Carlson was so far ahead of his time he was a true visionary
Awesome boat! When i was a kid my dad had a dealership for Glastrons and we would use them until he sold it.I had a great childhood with those sweet boats!
Boy that boat was definitely ahead of its time absolutely beautiful
Loved this boat since the day they came out..
That thing is so 80's it hurts.
So freaking 80's.🙀👍❤😺
I've loved Glasstrons since I was a kid. My dad took me to Florida from New York state to buy a Bertram Bahia Mar 20 when I was 10. He left it to me when he passed, so I understand the idea of cherishing a boat and keeping it in the family.
Still love those boats.
I recall back when this boat came out seeing it, even in the same color, in some magazine with some scantily clad hot babe. Still, my attention was drawn to the boat. Thank you for preserving it.
Very cool.
Wow, that is an absolutely gorgeous piece of history. Don't ever sell it. Keep the passion for boating alive in your family.
Thank you! Will be staying in the family as long as I'm around.
Great boat nice its still in the family 👍
So sweet. I remember when those were brand new😊
Super clean definetly a collectors item
Wow how cool does she look love the lines 👍
Thank you great family memories
That's what boating is all about!
My first boat was an 18 ft Glastron.
Excellent boat. Wish I still had it.
Love the boat. So cool
Such a nice boat !!!
My brother had a 78 glastron cv -20 with a omc 140 i/o.we had a lot of fun on that boat.We had no problems with the boat or the engine or outdrive. For the price he paid for that boat was well worth the money.
Cool boat. I've never seen one in person. Seen many Glastron boats, but never one of these.
That's brilliant!
such a cool boat
Need to get one of these Glastrons. My first boat was a Glastron .
Coolest boat ever
You're even wearing the same shirt as in the photo with pops, very cool.
So cool
I want one.
What a job keeping that beauty in mint condition.
Lovely
I am a big boat guy and that is a cool Boat. When are we going for a ride?
The James Bond boat used in the movie Moon Raker!
no, it wasnt.
The scimitar was never in any bond movies , the CV23HT was in moon raker
I hav the rc version. My parents bought it 4 me in Florida after going 2 Disney back in 91 I think. Still havit 2 this day. Still works. I'm 43yrs old.
I've got the Graupner one still in the box. Need to build it one day!
I wish I could bring this boat back to brantford and turkey point :(
The inspiration to design things in this manner is lost. Such a great looking craft.
Way way too cool.
Makes me think of "to live and let die "
James bond movie
it's a good looking boat, sexy.
Its in a James bond movie its special
Glasstron was way ahead in marine style. Most you find now are pretty beat up. But a great boat to restore. The style is classic yet still ahead of its time. 😊
The schimatar was used in 007 too. It was blue if you remember
no , it wasn't. common misconception. i do see why you think that! I believe the one in the film was some sort of custom job read up on it years ago. but now theres google.
They never used the scimitar in any bond movies , the one you're thinking was a CV23HT in moon raker . Live and let die , used many Glastrons and Glastron Carlsons . The memorable models were the GT150 , the jump boat , the GC CV21 , the police chase boat and the CV19 which bond pulled up to the dock after the famous chase .
I have the Imtimadator
Could be something from Back to the Future!
Wow, that thing is a time capsule. Are the T-tops in working order? To have one that actually has those is good condition is even more amazing.
T-Tops are still good to go! I usually run without them as it's easier to see out to top without, but they are great on a hot day to provide some shade 👍
Merry xmas '23. I have an opportunity to purchase the very same boat out west in Canada. What should I expect to pay for a similar condition identical boat and trailer?
Very good question. Best to hire an appraiser. But it will be based on condition of the finish, the transmission, and any rot in the subframe that is plywood structure.
Sick. Now drop a turbo 5.3 LS motor and a 26+ pitch prop in it.
Outdrive won't handle it !!! They tried 320 jp skinny block in front of outdrive and upper won't take that hp
They had a CLE type lower without the low water pickup. That geacse was either MOD VP OR THE 320 HP FUEL INJECTED CHEVY.
THE ONL DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE VP and the outdrive was the oil supply hole for the upper gearcase. You can block that hole and put a 15 in,, 20 in,,or 25 in driveshft in the outdrive version and run it on an outboard.
ha. nice! again i watch. pretty bad ass . i'd get shit faced in that with friends!
Enjoyed the beach at Lake Simcoe with family, this summer, my only advice is to stay off Flare airlines.
James Bond drove one. Right?
sadly no, it was a CV23HT (hard top) that you're likely thinking of from Moonraker. I usually don't correct people at the boat ramp thought when they call it a James Bond boat!
Lake boats are sit down boats. Saltwater boats are standup boats.
Just think of all the head injuries those things have caused over the decades 🙄
You can pump that Chevy V8 up to 350 hp with simple bolt on's and little money
Why? It's all original now. Best kept as is, imho.
If you’re paying someone to wax/buff your boat then you definitely have no idea what you’re doing owning that boat. You just have a good mechanic
I actually know quite a bit owning this boat. I'm a member in all the vintage Glastron/Carlson groups, all the forums and have learned a lot from the experts. I've also winterized it, changed the oil in the motor and drive, and set the dwell on the points before it was upgraded to an electronic ignition. I've also rewired the trailer and installed modern electronic brakes. And if you know anything about these old boats, you better have a good mechanic if you've got anything OMC which this is. Turns out my boat mechanic's son is very talented at buffing/waxing old metal-flake so I tossed him some extra business. Does that bother you?
Jealous
I pooped myself
