The best part of your project is that you share your ideas... as a librarian I truly appreciate this duality of you: both a perfect book smith and a knowledge dissemination agent. Thank you once again.
I have sprayed all the things! Everyone should give this a go, it's a game changer. My favorite is the tracing paper because it makes such great envelopes and butterfly wings, ever, ever, ever! But the sewing pattern paper is yummy and crinkly and I love it, too. I made an envelope window using the pattern paper like you did in a follow-up video and it turned out so incredible, I would never have guessed I could make such a cool thing. Thank you again for showing how to do this. I also tried napkins and still can't believe how much it changed them, so sturdy, and how useful they are to me now. It's magic!
I couldn't sleep & found your videos at 3am this morning... I am blown away 🤯. Holy Toledo, you are a genius. I really like the way you think and present different options. Finally glassine that I can afford... Thank you!
Thank you so much for being my “crafty scientist”! I made these today with tracing paper and with very thin painters’ mask....which we have an abundance of since my husband is a painting contractor. It worked beautifully! I love your videos!
Thanks Nik for doing all the research and sharing this great idea with us all. I love the way the tracing paper prints, I can see all kinds of uses for it. Especially printed envelopes, love it. Thanks again!
I make envelopes from watercolour paper. Once I’ve painted my design and calligraphied the address I fold and glue, add postage. Then I rub over the entire envelope (if sealed …otherwise avoid strip you need to glue) with Vaseline. Use your finger and gently rub a small amount in circles. There will be some excess! Leave propped up in a toast rack for a day, gently rub off any excess with paper towel and leave another day maybe … depends on your paper. This doesn’t make it transparent but smooth and waterproof and seemingly stronger to get through the postal service intact.
Haven’t even finished watching this video and have to state that: - Not only are you Brilliant and Generous with sharing new techniques and ideas with us; you are Drop-Dead Gorgeous Nik. Loved seeing your face! Thank you for sharing xx
I just bought some tracing paper but I had refused to buy ink for now over a year., I've been going to Office Depot. Now I have to buy some ink...AWK.... Seeing that dragonfly wings did the tick. Thank you for your creativity. This was a great technique with such varieties and must do soon. I won't forget this. Great Job.
I'm pretty sure you've just changed the lives of hundreds of us crafters and paper enthusiasts! There were definitely several holy moly moments for me whilst I was watching. Thank you for always being curious and sharing your discoveries along the way.
I’ve only just found your tutorial on spraying paper for a glassine look and I’m blown away by the results! I tried it on unused coffee filter papers and it makes them stronger and automatically vintage looking with a fantastic texture. Awesome! Thank you for sharing Nik! Linda, UK
Well, I never! This is the coolest!😎 I came across a couple RUclips videos in the last week or so, of crafters making "glassine" bags out of waxed paper and parchment paper. That's it. Just cutting up pieces of the paper and constructing little bags. Glassine bags! Magic! I was rather annoyed, although I didn't say anything. But folding waxed paper into a bag shape and gluing it, doesn't transform it into glassine.🙄 YOUR technique actually transforms the papers into, if not true glassine, something closely resembling it....and it's freakin' awesome! My mind is blown🤯...and it doesn't blow easily at my age. 😉 Thanks for being inquisitive, inventive, and for sharing your discoveries with us.
Nik , if your glassine paper is cracking when you emboss it using an embossing machine try running it through along with a regular piece of copy paper or even lightweight cardstock. It greatly reduces the break through. Hope this helps. I am new to watching your videos and have subscribed. You’re the best!! So thankful! 😍
I watched Roxy Creations who watched you and her results are fabulous -- I ordered tracing paper from Amazon, but doesn't get here until tomorrow !! Thank you so much -- also -- I print on fabric a lot and I have for years used regular old Dollar Tree hairspray to set the ink (after letting it dry) -- I also spray the fabric prior to printing and let it sit overnight -- it becomes tacky and just grabs the ink -- I only have an ink jet but saving for a color laser -- this is a great new technique -- thank you so much for sharing
Hi Nik - hey. A few shares: 1) I used tracing paper for vellum as over-lay on my wedding invitations. I actually made all of my wedding stationary. It was a blast. 2) I have a lot of success with parchment paper for envelope making. Life is good. *:D
THIS! you both a genius and a sweetheart - not only do you come up with solutions to problems we didn't know we had, you share them with us! with bonus new words like vellummy, which we also didn't know we needed (but we do)! THIS is why you have 45K subscribers!
Woo Hoo ! I tried it and it worked perfectly. Can't wait to use it in the 3 journals that I am working on. I printed your new paper from the video and then also used some enlarged Alice in Wonderland ephemera and it worked perfectly. Thanks
You have answered a yearning for glassine I have had for sooo long..don,'t know how to thank you!! I wonder how the smell is..I am a respiratory patient on extra oxygen.. But you deserve a huge award!! Throwing clear butterfly wings at your feet! Warmly,Grace
* bowing * thank you, thank you... 😄 I suppose scent may depend on the brand of acrylic spray used. But, I find the smell dissipates rather quickly. You can leave it outside until its completely dry and after that I can't smell much of anything from the paper at all. Hope that helps out, Grace!
I have used clear acrylic spray before on some of my papers and have loved it! You have taken my idea and made it even better and more extensive...great job Nik!!
ABSOLUTELY LOVE watching your videos. You are inspirational, so creative... and a pure joy to listen to. I giggle quite often. I love your wit. Thank you so much for all you do! I am a fan
Thank you dear Nik. Your thought process is immaculate as you pay so much attention to detail which makes all the difference when garnering information on methods etc.
Oh my!!! Thankfully I purchased the “right” kind of tracing paper! I printed off two sheets and now my mind is exploding with ideas! Thank you, thank you so much!!
Consider my mind blown!!! Now my husband has the task of putting it all back together again lol!! All I need is the spray... I have everything else..... so guess who will be up all night!!!! Yup!!! This girl!!! Thanks friend!! Always, Leslie
This is great!!! Glassine is so expensive in my country and sometimes you just want a couple of paper pieces so this comes as a great alternative!! Thank you so much!!!
Yes, I love using tracing paper for envelopes and such. I have found the cheaper the paper, the better. And I also have used architect paper. Cheap and printable.
As always, I have to go through major withdrawals and then,,,,,, behold! The long awaited queen of RUclips (I crowned you). Awesome awesome awesome! You always rock with all your amazingness and superb ideas. Now if only I had a printer.... lol 😂I have one, but have not used it in about ten years. I think I hid it in a closet somewhere.
Awesome Nic! You are fabulous and love your quirky personality! Your tips and knowledge are inspiring to try new methods. Thanks & I can’t wait for your next DIY!
WOW!! So glad this video popped up. This has been one of those all nighter youtube binges. Don't even remember what I started out looking at but went down one rabbit hole after the other and eventually found you lol. I'm 60, I've always done some kind of crafting and have been paper crafting since 2005 but experimented with rubber stamps since I was a teenager, just had no idea what to do with them lol. With all that, this absolutely amazed me! Thanks so much for all your experimenting. I think the one I loved best was the sewing pattern paper. Patterns are pricy, but may see if I can find some at the flea market or find folks who sew, & see if they have any they want to get rid of. I did find tissue paper the same color, so will try that & see if it would give the same effect. Oh, & those wings, back the truck up Chuck, those are the show stopper!
I! LOVE! THIS! I was on a big, fat bummer today. I can not tell you how much you've inspired me with this FANTASTIC technique! And, the wings...forget about it!! Also, you are so hilarious, you put a huge smile on my face.🤪 Ty, for another great idea that I can't wait to try!💗
As usual, my local Lowes did not have this spray. I did find it at Home Depot in the gloss version and decided to give it a try. Amazing results. The gloss makes it look like the vintage glassine sheets you have. Only sprayed each side once and I just love how it looks. Thank you so much for this tip, I will be using it often. Now to purchase more of the tracing paper (I used Masters Touch 25lb from Hobby Lobby at $5.99 for 50 sheets. $3.60 with coupon!)
Somewhere on RUclips, been some years ago, I saw where someone used tracing paper adhered (using a very light coat of spray adhesive i.e. Scotch Super 77) to just a standard 8.5 x 11 sheet of copy paper, although I recommend 24 lb or slightly heavier, to print all sorts of stuff. Tried it, worked great, now I use the technique anytime I want a trans to semi-transparent print. Your faux glassine is cool and being that I already have all supplies except the clear spray paint, I'ma have to check it out tomorrow. Thanks for sharing your "coolness" with us "semi-cool" peeps! xx
Nick, have you tried a glisserin water mixture to turn the tracing paper into glassine? May be less caustic. Love your style and art. You have turned journal making into a money making art...and you NEVER over embellish your books. Each one is a true thoughtful work of art. Thank you. GOD BLESS YOU ALWAYS.
Oh wow! The ideas are flying. I especially love the wings! The possibilities are endless with this technique! Dimensional Magic will work I hope. Thank you for sharing your fantastic ideas!🦋
What a brilliant idea Nik!! And especially as here in NZ I have not been able to find any glassine in whatever form. For kiwis watching we have Rust-Oleum 298g Satin Clear 2X Ultra Cover available at Bunnings
I LOVE YOUR HAIR!! I'm gonna show my hairstylist, I want this hairstyle lol
The best part of your project is that you share your ideas... as a librarian I truly appreciate this duality of you: both a perfect book smith and a knowledge dissemination agent. Thank you once again.

Spray painting paper inside my studio? No way!! I'm asphyxiating just THINKING about spray painting IN the house!!!
@@nuvoclassic I wouldn't spray ANYTHING inside, it's always done outside.
Who says you can’t teach an old dog new tricks! This is wonderful and you are great at thinking outside the box.
The wings…. Amazing 🤩
I couldn't sleep & found your videos at 3am this morning... I am blown away 🤯. Holy Toledo, you are a genius. I really like the way you think and present different options. Finally glassine that I can afford... Thank you!

First I am going to buy stock in tracing paper and clear spray, then I'm going to go out and buy me some. Fantastic.
Wow, wow, and WOW!!! Thank you!! I love the sewing paper tissue how it turned out! It almost was identical to the original vintage glassine paper!

Could you explain how to do it? Won’t it make the paper curl or bubble?
Maybe use the glycerine water mixture as a spray? Or did you mean a dipping solution?
Wow Nik. You just blew my mind. And so freakin easy. Cleaner. Yessss thank you.
Thank you so much. I had a wonderful time watching my first Nik the Booksmith video. I am a fan already. Great technique.
Thank you Nik........bought all the things today and am loving what this does.....awesome stuff!
