    oooohhh... the b-roll of the painted result... Nice and with the music 👏🏻 And again, I'm blown away by the amount of details and info you put into this video. Really enjoyed the break down of the different paint, and how well you explained it. For me who does not know much about it, this was really nice. And all the little but yet effective way of telling the story with camera and visual techniques.... brilliant. Loved the way you split the frame when washing and cleaning the subframe. Keep up the great work. For me, this was art 🔥👏🏻

      Thanks bro, glad you noticed all the details - and liked it 😊 I am quite satisfied with the short b-roll sequence of the painted frame, but perhaps even more happy with the result of the paint job - it came out pretty darn good to be painted by an amateur I think 😋

    This was great - very good test - one that I have thought about a lot from time to time when I have watched people doing painting. I have never done anything but spray can and have been satisfied for the most part. However, I think that stepping up my game requires stepping up my equipment and my knowledge. They only way to improve is to continue to try. Thanks for sharing

      I highly recommend getting a paint gun, it's like a million times better to work with than spray cans. It's not hard at all! Just remember a water/particle filter from your air compressor to not get contamination (water, oil and dust) into the paint. Normally I also spray my garage floor and walls using a water hose first to not get to much dust on the painted parts.

    fully agree with you on the spray can usefulness :) spray can enamels are way softer (less gloss). but painting is a nice can of worms where everybody has an opinion haha. great tests tho. thanks for sharing

      Hmm, is the spray can car paint an enamel paint? I had not thought of it that way. It sure looks like it, the surface is hard but seems a bit brittle. A lot off spray can paint types exists, having different properties, some are probably better than others. I have not found any that matches the finish and durability of 2K paint painted with paint gun though 😋 Different experiences and opinions are good, I am hoping to hear from others and hopefully learn more! 😁

      @@kihestad oh i meant the hardware store type spray can :) i can see from the internet that many brands have specific automotive type spray cans but here i can't find them. i always paint with a paint gun starting with filler, two coats wash primer, two or three 1k or 2k high solids primer, and 3 -6 light coats of color and if needed 2-3 clear coat too.

      @kihestad  2 года назад +2

      @@thebrokenbone Got it! 👍 The hardware store I am using the most here in Norway is Biltema, they have a separat car and motorcycle section in their store, so it might not be the most typical hw-store. You will probably have to go to a paint shop to get car paint, "normal" hardware stores had typically universal/hobby spray cans. Some of these are not made to be very durable, but are good enough for indoors decorations.

    Very happy to have found your channel, I wanted to make that kind of tests by myself... but you do it so well! That’s so much time saved for me ;-)

      Glad to hear that 👍 Remember that the paint quality from spray cans vary a lot, so you might find a type that is better or worse than the one I tested. Then it comes to 2K (car) paint for paint gun, I dont't think you can go wrong whatever you buy 😊

    There are lots of different spray paint.
    They can put any regular paint in a spray can.
    Instead of drying it with a paint remover, try spraying water on it.
    Sounds crazy, but water makes it dry sooner.
    They do this with cars after they put the paint on in the factory.

    • @kihestad
      @kihestad  Год назад

      Drying with paint remover? Misspelled?
      I know professional paint shops and put the item into a heat chamber to harden the paint faster. Could be water is sprayed on after it to cool it down? I don't understand how spraying on water makes it dry faster. It is most common to use water based paint on factories. Spraying on water onto the finished paint before it is dry will damage it 😵‍💫

      Well, that was not a hair dryer you used. 😂
      It can literally be used to burn off paint.
      Hence, a paint remover.

      Ah, got it 😵‍💫🤣 Yes, I became a bit impatient. The heat gun is definitely hot 😁

      Spray water on it instead.
      As strange it may sound, it really dries the paint faster.
      Make sure the water is clean (preferably distilled water), or otherwise you get stains.
      And apply it as a mist.

    I would have liked to have stumbled upon this video before painting my bicycle frame with spray cans

      Hehe, how is the paint holding up? I have several bicycles and know of easy it is to get scratches on them... 😫

    I wondered how you scraped off the paint for the bare spot when you did the thickness test. If you scraped mechanically you might have changed the thickness of the metal. From your later results, it looks like the brake fluid would do a great job of taking off the paint, without touching the metal, for just such a comparison.

    • @kihestad
      @kihestad  2 года назад

      I tried to carefully scrape off the paint with a shap knife without scratching the metal, but you are correct: I might have touched the metal surface and made the measurements less accurate. I did it the same way on both samples, so the comparison should be somewhat fair though. Perhaps it would have been best to mask off a part with a piece tape before painting 🤔

    How does the cost compare ?
    Also you need spray gun & compressor.
    I have good experience with spray can paint.
    But the technique is definitely not the same.
    And some spray can paint will "attack" some primers &/or paints.

    • @kihestad
      @kihestad  Год назад

      Hi, it's not easy to compare cost. It depends on very many factors. It does require some practice to get good results from a paint gun, but it's not very difficult to get better results than using spray can 😊

    Try something else than Biltema. Especially there series of "Bättringfärg" is like water.

      It's thin for sure, I have tested Biltema "hobby paint" as well, but that is just for decorations indoors, no strength at all. I'll see if I can find some other brand than Biltema next time. ☺️

    What mat are you using to wash on the driveway?

    • @kihestad

      It's just a heavy duty plastic tarp, mostly to avoid the water-beam from my water hose to damage the asphalt on my driveway.
