And in this week's Christmas cracker of a Spotlight, Gerard Minack and I respectfully disagree on our economic outlooks. He’s a self-confessed secular stagnationist - I’m not.
Gerard reflects upon 2016 and brings me his point of view on the impact of the major economic and political events of the year. We discuss China, commodities, oil prices and even gold.
Plus, Gerard looks ahead to 2017 and shares his secular stagnationist outlook on what the future holds.

    Transcript:
Gerard Minack: It’s been a year of broadening reflation trade without a doubt.
Alan Kohler: My final Spotlight interview of the year is with Gerard Minack.
Gerard Minack: And ultimately, you’ll cause a recession, trust me. In a recession rates will go right back down again.
Alan Kohler: Gerard is a self-described secular stagnationist and thinks the current rise in interest rates and strength in equities will be reversed. I don’t.
Gerard Minack: Cash would have been okay, it wouldn’t have got you major reach but you wouldn’t have been left too far behind in a total return sense.
Alan Kohler: Spotlight, fresh in your inbox every Tuesday.
