is there a way to use 3d printer instead of vinal cutter for designs?
can this easily be done with a plywood board, put the acrylic on top of it for a glossier/shiny look then drill holes through and use el wire through the holes? sounds do-able but just wanted to ask.

This could also be done much quicker with your laser paint it then lightly etch also give the added bonus of frosting the plastic so no need for paper

can someone help, so I dont have a vinyl cutter but i can find someone that does, what exactly would i need them to do? just print out the design i want? and then from there i can do the rest?

ok im a bit of a maker myself and my question to you is how did you get the color blending on the corona sign i always love learning diffrent ways people do things great video btw.
i was thinking acetate behind the stencil but that wouldn't account for the blending

Could you use a laser to ablate the black paint off of the acrylic? With the right power level and wavelength on the laser, you could burn off the paint without cutting the acrylic.
From a guess, a green DPSS solid state laser (aka green diode laser) would be both easiest to source and most likely to work well. The reason for this is that it will pass thru the acrylic (you can see thru it so it passes visible light quite well), and being a diode laser you can regulate the power level until it burns off the paint but doesn't cut the acrylic.
Once that's working, you might not even need the diffuser paper at that point because it's highly likely that you'll end up with a frosted surface on the acrylic anyways.
Of course this is mostly a time and money saver and doesn't produce a superior product (only quicker and possibly more consistent), so it's more important if you're running a sign shop or something like that. One offs and prototypes should still stick with the method in this video.

Peter, i have a good idea for RC planes landing sleds... Since a lot of people don't have a runway to land on, can you make a landing gear with long thin metal antennas, bent like a sled shape, (____ to make grass landings easy and keep a lot of jet bottom fuselages intact

I would recommend using some sort of a colored light filter rather than RGBs for each sign unless of course you want it to change color.
Also I would recommend gluing down some tin foil or using metal air duct tape inside of it to reflect as much light as possible making it brighter.
