Faux Neon HUSTLE Sign Build

- In this video I make a faux neon sign for my wife's classroom. I made it out of 3/4" MDF and used LED lights to backlight it. I also used stage light covers to make each letter a different color.

I couldn’t decide between the Xcarve or the Shapeoko for the longest time, I think I ended up with the shapeoko because at the time the extrusions were more rigid...but that was a couple years ago now so I assume they are about the same now. I have a blast with my machine, hope you do as well! If you make any vids with it, shoot me the link here in this string, would love to watch!
Potter's Work Lol me to I had the same problem on which one to get I took the x carve because I can upgrade the work area to 4x8 feet or 4x10 feet long and also they came up with a laser attachment that can also be used on the x carve to do the laser etching or cuts so that’s why I went with it and yess I’ll definitely share my vids as soon as I get it up and running

What kind of gold paint you use dude?
Tedjo, it is Metallic Gold acrylic paint made by FolkArt. Here’s where I bought it:

@@brightsides6581, the software is Autocad Fusion 360. The Shapeoko comes with it’s own software called Carbide Create too, but I don’t really use it.

I’ve never been one that can sit and not do much, I’ve constantly got to be doing/making something. Greg, thank you! She uses the term for the hustle and bustle of the business/work world. Basically to hustle and work hard...she’s not teaching them to swindle or gamble that I know of ;)

Is there a easier way of actually carving out ur text because i dont have one of those machines or the money to buy one?
GT Krystal, you could also use a handheld router, or a Scroll Saw or a handheld Coping saw. Coping saw would be the cheapest route of the 3 options. Hope that helps!

Syed, I used Adobe Illustrator to convert the text to a vector and then used Autocad Fusion 360 for the CNC toolpaths. Hope that helps, thanks for watching!
What CNC and sofware do you use
Freedom Fighter, I use Autocad Fusion 360 for my design and cam work. I use Carbide Motion to send g-code to my machine. Hope that helps!

John Dee, it’s a Shapeoko XL, I’ve been using it since the end of 2016, been a good machine!

John Dee, in October of 2016 I paid $1,550 for it...not sure what they run now. I know they’ve done some upgrades since then. I was torn between the Xcarve and the Shapeoko at the time, but ended up with the Shapeoko because the extrusions were more rigid. It was close between the two.
