Corvettes were one of the first performance cars to really put focus on power to weight ratios over pure horsepower. Proof in the pudding to this day

z06 is expected to be 100HP more at least. zr1 way more... like 200+ hp more than this one.
even with 100hp more, it will obliterate the HC or even red eye.
In early testing on the z06 there was way to much chassis twist that it would break the rear glass. They have to figure out what needs to be done to correct that without making to many changes, otherwise there wont be a z06 for many years to come

This goes to show you how much traction and weight makes a difference. The C8 is benefitting hugely with the new midengine configuration. It also goes to show you that you need to immediately purchase drag radials when you buy a hellcat lol

Weight and aerodynamics matter.
well apparently not.
Engine placement is the real reason why it performs better. A mid engine configuration will always perform better than a front engine configuration. Also, mid engine cars have superior acceleration off the line as well. Engine placement makes a huge difference in acceleration and handling.
Mid engine configuration is much more balanced than front engine cars. That's because, in addition to a mid-mounted engine's proximity to the rear wheels, this design also allows the car to achieve ideal weight distribution, center of gravity and traction. When the car's weight is centered, the wheels won't be thrown off balance by having to cope with extra weight, and the car can be steered with more precision. These are factors the average driver probably never thinks about, but can make a world of difference powering through tight turns on a track.
A front-engine vehicle can be tuned for some spirited driving, front-engine cars are at such an engineering disadvantage from a performance perspective that many high-performance auto manufacturers reserve them for their low-end models or skip them altogether. Why? The simplest explanation is that rear-wheel-drive cars handle the best from a performance perspective, and a ton of power would be wasted if a front-mounted engine had to send its output down the entire length of the car to turn the rear wheels. Front-engine cars also lose a bit of braking capacity because the car's weight shifts forward as the car decelerates, giving it extra momentum in the unwanted direction.

The thing I don't like about this channel is how misleading it Is like sure the c8 is faster but what times did the cars run. Like how do we know this wasn't paid for by Chevy and they intentionally slowed down. I doubt it but we can't prove that both cars ran a usual time.
@@carsonwilliams the c8 wasn't faster, it just hooked better and then in the roll race the hellcat had a better top end. They post real world scenarios if you were to drive them on the street as is. No need for time slips or et's because that was a street run. Sure the hellcat would win if it had slicks but that's not the point here. For what the corvette has, it's awesome that it got it till 90mph

Wow. I expected the C-8 to win from a dig cause of the mid-engine, but I thought it would get smoked from a rolling start of 40 MPH with the dodge having 707hp. Very impressive C-8.
The Vette is much lighter, and has a great fast shifting auto. It's not Hp. Its power to weight ratios. Look at Motocycles. 150 hp.
Dual clutch what do you expect
any RWD american sedan or coupe you have to discount the hp by 250 to get a feel for how it will perform. I used to marvel at how horrible the 500+hp mustangs, camaros, chargers/challengers were at the strip. Always a disappointment unless they were on non-street tires. Which makes the result at the strip pointless unless that's why you bought the car. Most of us buy a car hoping to drive it on the street and have it accelerate.
I absolutely expected it to jump it from a dig, but not quite THAT much. I am curious if the Hellcat was on fatter tires or radials how it would go, but to be fair that would not be stock for stock. I, like you, definitely expected the hellcat to have more of an edge from a roll but was interested to see what effect the weight difference/balance of the midengine had, ya know, off paper. Not disappointed at all. It looks like Corvette really has something special with this C8. If they're reliable in the long run on top of all that we already know, it is absolutely the best bang for the buck car right now!

I'm a Mustang owner and I appreciate both these cars for what they are. This video is simply a comparison, not a COMPETITION. So people need to stop commenting "If (blank) had a (blank) it would whoop their ass. Its the nostalgia value that the Charger/Challenger provide. They really do not have true competitors anymore, not saying that in a flaunting way. The others have become sports cars, not really muscle cars anymore. They are not the fastest but they have a colt following like no other, and I think that is where they gain so much respect.

The Corvette is, always had been and always will be an absolute masterpiece of a car. A true demonstration of American engineering precision and beauty. And I'm not even American. I'm half Australian half English. To me the Corvette is the ultimate performance car.

These really are two different types of cars. The C8 is much more aerodynamic and the weight of the vehicle is placed differently. Dodge still makes true muscle cars unlike all the competition.

Judging by the comments I think alot of people don't understand the point of these two cars and how both serve completely different purposes. The hellcat is a is a crazy over the top 4 door family car. Its fast but it's not built purely for speed, it's a big heavy car, with a crazy sounding engine that you can take the whole family out in for a Sunday drive, there's isn't much else out there like it. The Corvette on the other, especially this latest generation, is built purely for speed. Am actually shocked the charger was close in the rolling race.

If you can’t win from a dead stop, ask to run from a roll, if that doesn’t work, try to get them to give you a head start..... seriously, you race for a standstill.
Even the older C7 stingray with an 8 speed auto can outrun a hellcat from a dig, the hellcat always has traction issues with all that power. Both cars are badass tho!

Rule #1 with a HC. Unless you're prepped with drag radials and tweaked suspension, dont race from the dig. You won't be able to put the power down.
Rule #2 with a HC. When racing from the roll, make sure you are in the power band when you go; with the heavy weight and freeway gears (2.65?) as the axle ratio, you have to be in the sweet spot. It took a minute to reel in the Vette and pull on it to win the second race. Finish line is at 1:39.

Owned challenger hellcat, drove trackhawk...it was slower and less aerodynamic than challenger HC.

Not just that. Mid engine and dct makes a huge difference. C7 was lighter and down in only 35 hp but it could only do 0-60 mph in 3.8 seconds. This C8 does it in 2.8 seconds.

the c8's horse power is grossly underrated.
I raced a c8 corvette 60-150mph and we were neck to neck the whole way. I expected to get gapped but power-weight is a crazy concept.

In making an automobile fast the only thing that matters outside of top speed runs is power to weight ratio and this C8 is absolutely murdering the market. As a Japanese fan the new Supra is a disgrace to the Mark 4 legacy and I love how the new Corvette buried it as soon as it dropped! 💯🔥🤯
Hard to imagine that from a roll that a 4,500 4 door sedan could outrun a rear engine supercar. Once you are rolling on a typical highway like almost all of your fast driving will be done the power still rules!
