Eli fired his first 2 shots from a stabilized position (the top of a trash can) from approximately 40 yards away. He was forced to stop shooting as bystanders ran in front of his muzzle. He then had an opportunity to fire 2 more shots from that position. 4 shots, 2 hits.
Dicken then moved to approximately 20 yards where he fired 4 more shots. All 4 were hits.
Then, he closed the distance to about 7 yards for the last two shots. Both were hits.

That's pretty much the way I heard an LEO describe the event when he was doing an on camera interview with the press corps. It was a progression of "closing ground" as the shooting progressed.

He is itting in the shadows questioning whether he did the right thing. If you believe like I do, like any person with an ounce of common sense does, then he needs support. Not a country making this a political battle. Eli is a goddamn hero who didn't ask for it and right now he needs support. I don't care about the politics of all of it I ride with Mr. Dickens.

I believe shooters should practice TWO DRILLS:
Drill 1: Get out of a chair, shoot 10 rounds in 15 seconds from 40 yards *with a similar gun that Dicken used*
Drill 2: Get out of a chair, shoot 10 rounds in 15 seconds from 40 yards *with the gun YOU carry*
For me, I have P220 9mm with Red Dot I carry on duty and a P365 9mm (no red dot) I carry off-duty.
I think its important to know ourselves and how we perform with OUR weapons.
And it will also be interesting to see how we would do compared to Mr. Dicken.

I have seen several well-intentioned RUclips videos on what you called the dickens drill, every one of them has a stationary target, and that’s all good I suppose, however that is nothing like what Mr. Dickens accomplished, and that is as you said an active shooter, a moving target, with a long gun of some kind, and that my friend is far different and more difficult and all the more amazing then shooting at a stationary target, when I was in the military for example there were many very good shots on the stationary targets, but once that target was moving, literally no one could hit it, even though they were very good marksman on a stationary target, there is a world of difference, and then when you add the fact that it was an active shooter, all the more amazing accomplishment by Mr. Eli Dickins,

I think his (Eli) heart rate must have been elevated in that situation so to do this drill properly you have to get your heart rate up. Do a series of push-ups or burpees and then get up and do the shooting. He also was moving up as he shot so taking steps as you shoot is in order. Then you will see what an amazing person that dude was in his shooting ablility. It is not a simple matter of just hitting a target from a distance, it is doing it under duress that makes the drill more realistic

Dickens did a great job regardless of distance which has now been report as being 24 yds either way he did an awesome job, however my point is this is not a drill look up definition, this is target shooting. This has NO tactical or practical value to be called a drill. It's just people showing whether they can shoot accurately at 40 yds in other words it's a show. Demonstration that it, there is no training value is my point.

If I have the skill which most people doing this "Dickens" drill do obviously proper grip, trigger control sight alignment and grip control for follow up then doing this repetitively is target shooting. I'm not learning anything I'm practicing a skill already learned. If I am making errors and I learn to correct those errors and skill set then I believe I'm training. Greenwood Resident Here, Actual Story, 40 yards 1st 2 shots are hits, closes in on shooter as he is firing and moving bystanders out of his line of sight. 10 shots fired with 8 hits, including 2 neck shots, with 2 misses. The 8 hits ARE coroner confirmed, it’s in Greenwood police press conference, he said all 8 were NOT self inflicted, Mr. Dicken was using a Glock 9mm , not sure the model, and has NO military or police training. Just learned from his grandfather, and practiced a lot as a hobby. This IS the real story despite how many are out there. Not all 8 shots were from 40 yards. However this MAN is just a complete stud, and btw there were between 50-75 people in the food court. So think about that.

Everyone has heard of Elish Dicken by now, the young man who stopped a shooting in the mall.
I think the guy is a hero. But I’m a little turned off by both crowds on social media who are capitalizing on this by either attacking the guy or trying to capitalize on his feat.
The left of course are just morons who think the shooter should have been moved into compliance.
On the other end of the spectrum are the RUclips talking heads who are all doing what they are calling “The Dicken Drill”, where they shoot from 40 yards with their duty size pistols in order to prove that they too could do the same from 40 yds.
Great, you can do it on a shooting range. But even exercising before you run any drill does not even come close to simulating the real thing. On a range you are not getting shot at. No one is dying. You are not in a hurry. You are not worried about bystanders or whether you your self will be charged with some sort of goofy crime. And likely the guy was shooting a smaller conceal carry gun rather than the 1911 or duty size Glock etc that are a little more accurate. Life doesn’t happen on a square shooting range under perfect conditions and paper doesn’t shoot back. You can train all you want, and training is key. But just target practice(although essential) is not training. And because you think your a pro on the range, doesn’t mean a fight will go in your favor in real life. A shooting is a fight. And the guy that wins is the guy who goes home. I hate to see people armchair quarter back and then try to compete with a young man who did an excellent job. It’s just s little much. And the people who do this and think they are proving something have never been in a gun fight. This isn’t a drill. It’s just target practice from 40 yds.

      @MrRevolver  2 года назад

The people in these comments, my God. Just get the f**k out an shoot. The fact that Eli did this under real shitty circumstances isn't lost on anyone, people. There is no reason to mention it every time someone posts their results to running this drill. The entire point is to show people that shooting pistols at distance is not only NOT impossible, but should be incorporated into everyone's training regimen. People saying that these drills don't prove anything must be 7 yard warrior wonders. Telling yourself it doesn't prove anything is a coping mechanism for a fragile ego.
Solid shooting, Mister. I ran the drill cold with a stock HK VP9 w/ irons. I was just under 12 seconds for 10/10 with three A's. I couldn't imagine doing it with a wheel gun. I'd be better off throwing the damn thing at them before actually firing a revolver.

Hello. I've been looking for a channel that emphasizes revolvers. At 58, I've just recently bought my first and only gun, a S&W 686 Plus .357, 7-round, 5-inch barrel. So far, I've only shot it-using .38's-a few dozen times during a basic intro class. I now have a couple boxes of .357's. I'm in Alabama, which is now Constitutional Carry, and has been both open and concealed carry for a long time. I had a custom holster designed by Simply Rugged Holsters out of Arizona. My goal is to open carry as much as possible, and to learn to shoot one-handed as proficiently as I can. What do you think?

So you felt the need to show RUclips that you were as good as E. Dicken….even with your revolver….boy, there’s a lot of “good as” provers lately…you sure showed us.

Well, Revolvers don't suck, the French GIGN uses the Manurhin MR73 357 Magnum. And they kill a lot of bad guys with it. 9mm is a pretty weak round. But it's the standard. with the shootable and round count. One of the reasons most 9mm popular ones have double stacked 15 to 21-round magazines and you can buy 32-round ones for most of the popular 9mm guns.

I like to do 8/12 X 11 at that distance with handguns because it's harder.

    These drills don't feel right.
Wouldn't you need to be sitting enjoying the day (cold and distracted), then at the beep (gunfire), you'd need to secure your girlfriend, draw the weapon, identify the number bad guys in a crowded environment, find the best cover, consider what's behind the target, consider being mistaken for a bad guy by another good guy with a gun, then start putting rounds on a moving target that is very dangerous to shoot at.

My brother, no one is trying to discredit Eli.
What those of us running this drill are showing is how difficult a shot this is and giving him credit for an incredible feat of marksmanship
